Army breaks into technology leaders
Already gained some experience in this new area, as well as we see the interest of specialists and just visitors. Last year, more than half a million people visited the Forum.
The main program is planned to be carried out, as usual, on the basis of the Patriot Convention and Exhibition Center using the entire existing and built infrastructure for the forum, as well as the Alabino training ground and the Kubinka airfield. A demonstration of the capabilities of modern Russian weapons in the framework of the forum will also be held in all military districts and in the Northern navy. A demonstration of modern weapons, military and special equipment of the Navy is planned in St. Petersburg.
Given the growing public interest and popularity of the forum, as well as the experience of ARMY-2015 and ARMY-2016, the dates of the ARMY-2017 forum are determined from 22 to 27 in August 2017.
ROBOTICAL COMPLEXES
Today, the creation of robotic complexes is being built in several directions. These are works that were originally set up according to the requirements of the tactical and technical specifications, which are issued by the Defense Ministry of the Russian Federation. In addition, many developers offer their initiative development. In order to develop a unified ideology and order of creation of military robotic complexes, reduce the type, unification, interdepartmental coordination of work, the Commission for the development of military robotic complexes under the leadership of the Minister of Defense was formed.
The main results of the commission’s work were conceptual documents in terms of ensuring the development and implementation of advanced military, special and dual-purpose technologies, organizing broad cooperation of industrial enterprises, including when performing work on the initiative to create robotic complexes in the interests of the Russian Armed Forces.
The incoming proposals are analyzed by experts, and on the basis of the conclusion, a decision is made on the use of submitted samples or existing layouts. If necessary, the developer is invited to bring these or other development characteristics to the values determined by the military department. We are closely cooperating in this direction with the interdepartmental working group on the development of special military robotics and dual-purpose robotics under the leadership of Oleg Martianov, a member of the Military Industrial Commission. The General Directorate for Research and Development and Technological Support of Advanced Technologies (Innovative Research) of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation works very closely with the Advanced Research Foundation, where the Center for the Development of Robotics is also created.
For example, a multifunctional robotic combat support complex “Nerekhta” capable of performing various tasks depending on the installed replaceable module.
The complex is a tracked platform on which are interchangeable combat and reconnaissance modules, optical-electronic suppression system, a television camera, a laser range finder.
Or the “Whirlwind” complex, intended for fire support during the conduct of basic tactical actions, including in urban areas, reconnaissance (supplementary intelligence) of a group of troops (forces) and enemy vehicles, destruction of manpower and lightly armored targets, breakthrough of fortified areas and destruction most important objects of the enemy.
The complex is a robotic base of infantry fighting vehicle BMP-3 with a combat module, four unmanned aerial vehicles "Sentry" and two robots MRP-100 with engineering ammunition for making passes in enemy defenses. In the future, it is planned to place two biomorphic robots "Predator" on the basis of the complex to perform special tasks.
The capabilities of the complex allow you to independently receive and process intelligence data about the enemy in a radius of up to 10 km, using the installed equipment to send target-oriented commands and real-time control commands via secure communication channels.
"Whirlwind" is able to move on sredneproshechennoy terrain and float on water, adapted to parachute landing and transportation by road, sea and air transport. It allows you to deliver troops to the battlefield to 10, evacuate to 4 seriously wounded or to 10 lightly wounded with a weapon and can be controlled in a robotic or manual mode.
In August, 2016 was tested at the Geodesy training range and exercises were carried out to overcome artificial and natural obstacles. The complex showed good opportunities in carrying out tasks of fire preparation and driving in a robotic control version.
On the maritime theme, I can cite as an example a robotic complex with autonomous uninhabited underwater vehicles of the “glider” type, designed to solve the problems of monitoring the World Ocean, operational support of troops and forces with oceanographic information, retransmitting commands to submerged objects.
The glider (submarine glider) moves due to changes in buoyancy and trim almost similar to an air glider. It can act as a maritime element of a space system designed to collect operational oceanographic information and transfer it to an analytical center or serve as an element of a maritime information system built on the network-centric principle.
Main advantages: stealth, long-term (up to six months) autonomy. High profitability compared with expeditionary vessels.
There are no analogs in Russia yet. In this case, the experience of our foreign colleagues is being studied.
DIGITAL INFORMATION MEDIA
In the framework of the joint project of the Main Directorate for Research and Development and Technological Support of Advanced Technologies (Innovative Research) of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the Fund for Advanced Studies and the Ministry of Education and Science at the Russian Chemical Technological University DI. Mendeleev developed a technology of ultra-stable optical memory for archival storage of information, resistant to extreme external influences.
The technology is based on the creation of nano-grids with certain properties by irradiating quartz crystals with a laser with specified parameters.
This approach allowed the recording of information in one cell not of one, as is customary in traditional storage media, but of three bits of information.
At the current stage of the project, a technology for recording and reading information has been developed and a data carrier has been created to ensure that the following requirements are met:
- ultimate durability - preservation of physicochemical properties and the ability to store recorded data at room temperature for an indefinitely long period — hundreds of thousands of years or more;
- resistance to high temperatures - not less than 800 degrees Celsius,
- high radiation and chemical resistance;
- Capacity at the level of modern Blu-Ray disc - at least 25 GB;
- comparable to modern media recording speed (from 10 Mbit / s) and read (from 100 Mbit / s) data.
The possibility of implementing the technology of ultra-dense and super-stable optical memory at the industrial level brings Russia into the lead in the field of developments related to archival data storage.
The use of the developed technological solutions will make it possible in the future to abandon the consumption of foreign storage devices.
FROM NUCLEAR MEDICINE TO BLENDER
The medical field is quite versatile. After all, the health of a soldier is first and foremost human health, which means technologies and ideas are also dual-purpose developments.
One of the priorities is nuclear medicine. Along with the development of nuclear technologies in the military sphere, energy and production, the study of the biological effects of nuclear reactions and ionizing radiation is now a rapidly developing industry.
The classical use of nuclear technology in medicine is well known and includes primarily the use of radioactive isotopes for the purpose of diagnosing and treating various diseases (oncology, cardiology, neurology). Also, nuclear medicine includes methods of radiation therapy using gamma, neutron, proton and other types of radiation.
In addition, the effects of various sources of radiation can be applicable to detect latent defects in the production and operation of equipment and weapons; for sterilization of medical instruments, special materials (dressing, suture material, surgical clothing), blood components and medicines, as well as food, clothing and other tangible assets.
Research in this area is of great interest for military medicine. Moreover, in contrast to the classical understanding of nuclear medicine, not only for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment in a peaceful environment, but also for the development of dual-use technologies, such as:
- disinfection and sterilization of potentially dangerous objects aimed at preventing infectious diseases during the development of emergency situations;
- study of the side effects of various types of ionizing radiation on biological systems and the human body.
Currently, active work is underway to assess the possibilities and prospects for creating a nuclear-technological center of the RF Armed Forces, designed to comprehensively address these tasks, as well as tasks in the field of autonomous nuclear energy and protection from weapons of mass destruction.
Also as an example can serve as work on blood substitutes.
Domestic and international experience of military medicine shows that acute irreplaceable blood loss is the main cause of death as a result of an injury. The statistics is as follows: in the overwhelming majority of military personnel who received combat injuries in modern armed conflicts and died in the prehospital phase, the cause of death is fatal blood loss.
The scientists of the Kaluga region in the framework of the project, accompanied by specialists of the Main Directorate for Research and Development, developed a blood substitute - polyhemoglobin under the code name PAM-3, which has outstanding characteristics. Among them: independence from the blood group and Rh factor of a person, safety in relation to the transmission of dangerous infections, as well as the ability to carry much more oxygen than the existing means, and the possibility of long-term storage in normal conditions.
Polyhemoglobin provides oxygen transport to the tissues and stimulates blood formation in conditions of blood loss and serves as a complete replacement of donor erythrocytes. In addition, it is possible to use the drug in case of occurrence of diseases associated with impaired formation of red blood cells, such as blood diseases, radiation sickness, burns and intoxication.
In 2016, the drug passed the first stage of human clinical trials.
A second test phase is scheduled for June 2017. The question of conducting research on the basis of the Military Medical Academy. CM. Kirov. With the successful completion of the second and third stages of clinical trials, the technology for obtaining this drug can be a breakthrough not only in the domestic, but also in the foreign blood substitutes market.
By the way, world analogues with polyhemoglobin properties do not exist.
Another innovative drug that has already passed all the clinical trials required by Russian law and is approved for use as a medicine is a universal wound disinfecting gel that can be used in first aid and treatment of any mechanical damage to the skin, burns and frostbite. This gel, initiated by the General Directorate for Research and Development, was included in the emergency first aid kit of the expedition of the Ministry of Defense to the North Pole and is currently undergoing troop testing in the Arctic.
The military is considering any positive experience of finding new, not only from the point of view of practice, but also at the initial stage of the organization.
You can, for example, note the use of advanced experience of domestic science in solving problems of searching for innovative developments, technologies (and tools for creating and producing world-class military and dual-use products) by issuing initial requirements not only to the final product, but also to the stages its development and production with decomposition according to formalized features to a block (element, production process).
This makes it possible to formulate private requests already for external innovations and to involve in solving scientific, technical and technological tasks not only major players in the arms market, but also other external developers, scientists and designers, regardless of their orientation and core activities.
In turn, the received ideas, solutions and initiative proposals form the basis of the bank of innovative solutions - the “Windows of Open Innovations” created in the Ministry of Defense, thereby forming a scientific and technical reserve for the future.
Indeed, it is only under the condition of continuous search, scrupulous accounting, selection, introduction of innovations and advanced achievements of science and technology in the production of weapons, as well as full overlapping with the research and development of a list of basic and critical military technologies, timely and adequate response the improvement of technical and technological processes in the production of weapons of warfare with the involvement of a wide range of specialists from any field of research Nost and the simultaneous formation of the scientific and technical groundwork for the future of our country will be able to confront all challenges.
