Pistol "Drill"

7
World practice of designing small weapons shows that for the invention of the system to be used as a “civilian” weapon, i.e. employees of specialized non-army units, sometimes it is enough to modify the already proven samples. Sometimes on the shelves of design bureaus, drawings and practical developments of previously manufactured weapons, which for various reasons did not fall into the “series”, gather dust. Moreover, if this is Margolin's invention weapon.

A few words about Margolin M.V.
The son of a worker, Margolin M.V. at the beginning of the 20-ies of the XX century, he joined the army and was sent to fight banditry. Commanding a platoon, he gets seriously wounded in 1924, as a result of which he loses his sight forever. After some time, Margolin M.V., being a blind man, begins to teach young people of pre-conscription age the tricks of shooting. At the same time, he himself is simultaneously studying (by touch!) Different types of pistols and revolvers. The main assistant in this study was the stubbornness of this heroic man. Helped and innate sense of perception of space and distance, as well as excellent memory and natural ingenuity.

Pistol "Drill"

Margolin Pistol Sample 1948-1952's.
In 1948, his brainchild - a pistol for an 5,6-mm “long” cartridge is sent to the “series”. The features of this pistol were a free-type shutter, which also played the role of a casing, an open-type trigger with a platoon and a safety system, a mechanical sight with a whole and a front sight to be adjusted. The trigger mechanism consisted of a comfortable trigger, traction and the sear trigger. The return spring was under the barrel, and its stem was held up by a special check.
The gun was well balanced and had an ergonomic handle, the slope of which was 111 degrees. All these data significantly improved the quality of the shot and, accordingly, increased the accuracy when shooting. In 1952, the product was modified to a “short” 5,6-mm cartridge (MC-1).
Margolin pistol received universal recognition in the rifle world, as one of the brilliant samples of self-loading products used in sports shooting.

Small-sized 5,45-mm pistol "Drill"
This sample of small arms is based on the sports pistol of the Margolin sample. 1948 and made for the police and troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR and Russia, which "ordered" compact weapons. The "Drill" pistol is made to a caliber of 5,45 mm. To produce a shot, a 5,45x18 mm MPC cartridge is used, which is designed for the PSM pistol. This markedly increased the efficiency of its use in comparison with similar samples.

Design features "Drills"
The pistol differs from its prototype by the ammunition used, the shorter barrel, the elementary sighting mechanism. Also, there are no special devices, as in the "parent" model, and a more convenient, but at the same time, more simple form of tides on the handle.

Action mechanisms "Drills"
Automation works on the principle of recoil of a free-type shutter, which additionally plays the role of a casing. Impact mechanism - trigger type, with an open trigger. The trigger mechanism consists of a hook for firing a shot, which is connected to the trigger rod by a hinge, which, in turn, rotates the sear located under the spring. The thrust protrusion serves to disconnect it from the sear when the bolt moves to the rear position. The fuse is a specially made trigger on the trigger. When a combat platoon hits the groove, both the sear and the trigger are blocked.

Advantages of "Drill"
The gun is compact and easy to handle and operate — advantages over PM
Good balancing and ergonomic handle - advantages over PSM

Disadvantages "Drill"
There is no self-propelled and special safeguards.
TTX pistol "Drill"

That's how it turned out, back in school I was fond of shooting, they shot from the TOZ-12 and the MC and, to my shame, I never studied the biography of Mikhail Vladimirovich. Not a sighted designer created a very convenient weapon, if someone said something, I probably would not have believed. And maybe the gun turned out to be so remarkable due to the fact that its designer did not rely on eyesight, but on a sense of space.

PSM is much better, this stub! MTs -48 is one of the best small-caliber pistols
