The German Air Force officially announced the full combat readiness of the first UAV unit. They became the second squadron of the 51 th Immelman reconnaissance wing. The squadron received an Israeli-made Heron-1 UAV, and then went to Afghanistan. The squadron commander was trained and trained as part of a group of eight UAV operators in Israel. UAV "Heron-1" was leased from the Israeli company IAI. Its design was refined by the German company Rheinmetall due to the need to meet the specific requirements of the German Air Force. In total, the squadron should be armed with three unmanned aircraft and two control posts.
Aircraft wing will also be adopted by the Euro Hawk UAV. The first course of training and training of operators and technicians for the operation of these UAVs will begin this summer. It is expected that the first of the five Euro Hawk UAVs will be handed over to the wing in the 2011.
