Gunshot "Kid"

11
Often, employees of various special services have a need for a firearm weaponswhich, with tolerable characteristics, would be compact and secretive. For "liquidation specialists", gunsmiths from time to time make different systems of flush mounting, but for most users they are not suitable. In this case, the most appropriate solution to the problem is small-sized pistols. One of the most famous representatives of this category of weapons is the Belgian Bayard 1908. However, several similar samples were developed in our country.

In the first half of the 90-ies of the last century, the designer of the Tula TsKIB SOO Yu.I. Berezin developed his version of weapons for concealed carry. According to his idea, a pistol called OTs-21 or “Kid” was supposed to become a regular weapon of the special services officers, as well as a means of self-defense for those people who would not be wise to carry with them something like a Makarov pistol, but a weapon is required. Ammunition for the new gun was chosen familiar cartridge 9x18 mm PM. Despite the not too small dimensions of the cartridge, Berezin managed to fit in both the actual size of the gun and the magazine for five rounds. At the same time, the width of the pistol, the match for the name, turned out to be small - no more than two centimeters. The length of the OTs-21, in turn, is 126 mm, and the height - 100. Remarkable performance, especially against the background of "full" pistols.

However, the OC-21 is not only of interest. Watching the shooting of this pistol, it can be assumed that the automation is made on the basis of a free shutter, because when fired, the shutter casing goes back, and a shooting cartridge is ejected from the corresponding window on it. In this assumption, there is some truth - the extraction of the liner and the dispensing of a new cartridge in the “Kid” are really done thanks to the recoil energy. However, it does not affect the cocking. The fact is that the convenience for concealed carrying required that the designer remove all protruding parts from the outer surface of the “Kid”. One of the "extra" parts was the fuse box. And because of the lack of the latter, the safety of handling the pistol was “entrusted” to the trigger mechanism and the layout of the trigger and hook. USM "Kid" works only under the scheme of double action. This means that the cocking and lowering of the trigger is carried out in one stroke of the trigger. Accordingly, the trigger is located inside the casing of the shutter and does not protrude beyond its limits. In turn, the trigger has a relatively high pressing force - about 6 kilogram. On the one hand, the production of a shot from the OTs-21 is more difficult than with other pistols, but on the other hand, accidentally pressing the hook in most cases will not result in a shot. Some users initially had some complaints about such a fuse replacement, but the small operating experience of the “Kid” made me change my mind.

The gun is powered by a detachable box magazine, in which five rounds of 9x18 mm PM are located in one row. Magazine latch located on the bottom side of the handle. Separately, it is worth noting the detail located in the lower part of the store: the small dimensions of the whole gun also influenced the size of the handle. Because of this, holding the gun was not very convenient. To solve this problem, a special pad of a specific form is attached to the bottom edge of the store. Thanks to her, the lower finger of the arrow, which lies on the front face of the handle, does not slide down from it. Also, with some dexterity, you can additionally support the pistol with your little finger, tucked under the bottom side of the lining of the store.

Gunshot "Kid"

Sights "Kid", as a fuse or trigger, were to some extent changed: the role and front sight, and the pillar is performed by a groove of a rectangular profile, done on the upper surface of the casing of the shutter. Naturally, long-range fire or wind corrections with such a sight are impossible, but at short distances, for which the OTs-21 is intended, it will fit perfectly. As a result, due to the barrel length in 63,5 mm and the aiming groove of the hole from the shots from a distance of 10 meters fit into a circle whose diameter does not exceed 60-65 millimeters. Berezin himself several times argued that tolerable accuracy was also maintained on 25 meters, but for secretive self-defense weapons, this distance is not working and, as a result, the results of shooting on 25 meters are no longer of special interest, although they are a certain reason for the authors pride designs.

On the basis of the original "Baby" was created several modifications:
- OTs-21С (“С” - service). It differs from the base model in the used cartridge. Here it is 9х17 mm K. Designed for security structures, including private ones;
- OTs-26. As well as the OTs-21С differs from the original in the cartridge - 5,45х18 MPTs. Unlike some other types of weapons for this cartridge is not widespread.

OTs-21 "Baby" interested security forces and in the middle of 90-x was adopted by the Ministry of Interior. There is also information about the use of a pistol as a weapon of self-defense by prosecutors and the Investigation Committee. At the end of 2005, by the decree of the Government, the gun OC-21 was included in the list of premium weapons. On this occasion, the production of the gift version was launched. From the usual, whose parts are subjected to oxidation, it is different nickel coating.

    Pistol "Kid" (OTs-21)

Designed by the weapons designer Yu.I. Berezin.

Automation works due to the recoil of the free shutter.

Trigger trigger type with hidden trigger, self-cocking.

Feature - no protruding parts, even the rear sight and front sight are recessed.

There is no fuse, since when you pull the trigger, a force of 6 kg is required.

    Main characteristics
    Caliber 9 mm
    Cartridge 917
    Weight 600 g
    Length 126 mm
    Height 57,5 mm
    Width 20 mm
    Capacity of 5 magazine cartridges
    Sighting range 15 m
    Initial bullet speed 280 m / s

The strength of the design of the pistol was calculated under the cartridge 9x18 PM. Weight of the pistol without cartridges 560 gr. The uniqueness of the OC 21 is that it is the smallest pistol chambered for such power. There are samples of a comparable or smaller size in the world, but all of them are inferior in power: usually these are 6,5 or 7,62 mm calibers
The length of the sighting line and the length of the barrel are shorter, but quite comparable with the PM so beloved in Russia. Not burdened with sports discharges, the shooter lays 10 bullets in a 10cm circle at a distance of 10m. Knowledgeable people will easily notice the resemblance to the accuracy of PM
The kit includes 2 magazines for 5 rounds and one for 10. Of course, such a long magazine protrudes from the handle, but also serves as an additional focus for the fingers, although experienced shooters with a five-shot magazine hold the gun with both hands, as a modern shooting mode requires. The commercial prospect for this model seems very good - there are many orders. It is bought both in serial and gift designs.

For the "liquidation specialists," well, he made me laugh. How many years has the author lagged behind life? This trunk so scare the dogs on the street no more. Or as the ladies' revolver used to say. Well, of course it’s suitable for the collection. And for self-defense it is doubtful. Any injury is more powerful.

The first time I hear that the Ministry of Internal Affairs was in service.

And in your opinion, the “specialist-liquidator” is Rimbaud with two machine guns in his hands ?!
As a result, due to the barrel length of 63,5 mm and the aiming groove, holes from shots from a distance of 10 meters fit into a circle whose diameter does not exceed 60-65 millimeters.

      What is poor accuracy ??
. And for self-defense it is doubtful. Any injury is more powerful.

Well, let's conduct an experiment on YOU, in the chest 9x18 mm PM or from traumas would you prefer ?? Stupidity do not drive

How can this traumatic be more powerful than a standard pistol cartridge? Getting with such a toy at a distance is a problem, but if you get there, the client will be "satisfied" ...

I don’t know how OTs-21, when I haven’t used it, of the small-sized PSM is very successful PSM - flat, small - fits easily in the back pocket of your trousers (very convenient when the holster is not camillefo), very gritty, 5.45X18 cartridge - high penetrating, but low stopping (although for this weapon is of little relevance), of the shortcomings - only 8 rounds in the store, an uncomfortable fuse - can switch on its own by catching on a fold in clothes

This is what you need to arm the grandmothers from Vohr! Instead of sticking a Berdan on them. "Can you tell me how to get to the library?" "Where's Granny?"

An offer for both the site administration and its users:

Install voting on the site on the topics:
    - The best 20 century army pistols.
    - The best pocket pistols of the 20 century.
    - The best trimmings of the 20 century. wink

Naturally, you need to prepare a fairly impressive nomenclature list for all categories.
It is unlikely that voting should be organized according to the "Top Ten" principle. Most likely, as did Kinopoisk.RU: rating "The best films - Top 250".
Personally, I see a long list, and in the top are those models for which participants often voted.

What will servicemen and just lovers of weapons say?
