Silent automatic pistol
At the very beginning of the 70 of the last century, Klimovsky TsNIITochMash received an order from the Ministry of Defense to create a pistol capable of firing without much noise. The basis of the new design was to become a Stechkin automatic pistol. The work on the modernization of the APS was entrusted to A.S. Disagreeable. Initially, the project had an index AO-44. After some minor modifications to the design of the original weapons and introducing a silent firing device in the 1972, the gun was adopted as an APB (automatic silent pistol) or 6P13.Actually the gun almost did not undergo any special changes. Innovations relate only to the integral expansion chamber in the casing of the shutter. To reduce the initial velocity of the bullet, a part of the powder gases when fired is released from the barrel into the tubular expansion chamber, worn on the barrel, through two groups of holes (near the chamber and at the muzzle end). On the front of the expansion chamber, protruding from under the casing, a thread is made for attaching a silent-shooting device to a pistol. Automation APB, like the prototype, works on the principle of free shutter.
The trigger mechanism of double action with an open trigger allows you to shoot with a preliminary manual cocking, and self-cocking. In the back of the casing of the shutter is placed non-automatic fuse, blocking drummer and the shutter itself.
The inertial rate of fire retardation has not changed, as well as the 20 xNUMX mm PM magazine for 9 cartridges. After the appearance of the upgraded PMM cartridge at the Central Research Institute of Tochmash, they conducted relevant studies and concluded that the APB pistol cannot be used with the PMM. The fact is that due to the larger impulse of the new cartridge, the bolt part of the pistol moves too fast. This may result in structural damage, including the destruction of some parts.The silent shooting device (length 230 mm and diameter 30 mm) is attached to the gun on the thread. Inside the muffler housing there is a single design consisting of a mount on the barrel of the gun and four partitions with holes. All elements of the insides of the silent shooting device are fastened to each other by longitudinal planks. During the shot, most of the powder gases remain inside the muffler - in the expansion chambers, after which, having cooled down and relieving the pressure, they leave the muzzle. Due to the design features of the APS pistol sights, the silencer is made asymmetric — the inlet for the barrel, the openings in the bulkheads and the muzzle are offset to the upper side of the CBE. The use of a gun’s own barrel with holes and a silent shooting device did not allow to completely remove the sound of a shot, as, for example, on an MSS pistol. However, the noise dropped significantly to the corresponding indicators of small-caliber weapons. At pistol ranges, this does not completely hide the gunman, but makes it difficult to detect him.
The device of silent shooting due to the design features turned out to be not very light - about 400 grams. For this reason, Neobodov decided to abandon the standard wooden holster-butt, relying on the staff to the Stechkin pistol. To save weight and ease the shooter, it was replaced with a simple wire butt compatible with old fixtures. Interestingly, on the butt there are parts for attaching the muffler to them during transportation. With a docked butt, you can fire automatically with great efficiency, using a silencer as your forearm. However, while firing, the PBS heats up, which makes it difficult to use it. In addition, the accuracy and accuracy of the AFB is slightly better than that of the MTA due to the slightly lower initial velocity of the bullet. Since the old holster-butt was removed from the supply of a pistol, instead of it introduced the usual leather. The silencer and butt, respectively, are carried separately from the pistol in the cartridge pouch.From the very beginning of production, APB pistols are made in small batches of original Stechkin pistols. For example, the first copies were converted from the MTA 50-s release. The main customers of this weapon are the special units of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Through 40 years after its appearance, this gun is actively used in appropriate situations, and the removal from service is not threatened by him.
