AU A-220M is an upgrade of the universal AU A-220. In 67, work began on the design of a universal AU A-220 caliber 1x57-mm. By 68, the Petrel Research Institute was finished on the draft design. In 1975-77, the prototype of the installation was tested at the test site. Tests were found to be unsatisfactory, and the sample was sent for revision. 1977-78 year, undergo state tests of AU A-220 and VOMP-220. For testing used boat project 206PE. State tests are recognized as successful, but the universal installation does not come into service. In 2000-01, the Petrel Research and Development Research Institute is developing a modernization of AU A-220. The upgraded installation gets the name A-220M. The main purpose is to install on ships with a displacement of more than 250 tons of the ship version A-220М.

Universal AU A-220
The unit was intended to arm ships with a displacement of more than 250 tons. The AU was used in conjunction with the Vimpel-220 control system and the MP-123 radar. They provided guidance for installation and tracking of surface, ground and air targets at a distance of 5 kilometers. PUS was equipped with a tivi-visor. There was a backup PUS - sighting column with a collimator scope. In the installation itself, aluminum alloys were used to reduce weight. The barrel bore had combined cuts. The installation was provided with continuous water cooling. For the supply of ammunition was used without auger feed screw.

Main characteristics of A-220:
- 400 rounds of ammunition;
- range tivi-visor - 75 kilometers surface target, 7 kilometers aerial vehicle;
- height 3.2 meter;
- mass 6 tons;
- vertical targeting -5 + 80 0С;
- horizontal guidance ± 180 0С;
- barrel length 75 calibers;
- rollback 300 mm;
- The weight of the shell 6.5 kilogram;
- the initial velocity of the projectile 1km / s;
- ballistic distance to 9 kilometers;
- the range of the self-killer to 6 kilometers;
- average rate of fire 300 per minute;
- one 50 round of shots;
- break 20-30 seconds;
- Combat response time 10-12 seconds;
Experienced AU A-220 installed on the surface ship №110 project 206PE, which remained in the Navy.

Upgraded shipboard AU A-220M
The main purpose is installation on ships with a displacement of more than 250 tons. Upon request, the Petrel Research Institute is ready to modify the installation for any modern ship. High-speed installation is universal - strikes sea, land and air targets. Operates at temperatures -40 + 50 0C.

- protective formations of aluminum alloys;
- PUS for interfacing with any MSA;
- OMS;
Main characteristics of A-220M:
- unitary munitions, with 53-УОР-281У OFS;
- 400 rounds of ammunition;
- power supply - 380 B, 50Hz;
- power used 14 kW / h;
- Cooling - sea water, flow rate 5.3 l / s;
- rate of fire 300 shots per minute;
- The range of destruction of marine and ground targets to 12 000 meters;
- range of destruction of air targets to 8 000 meters;
- vertical angles -10 + 85 0С;
- horizontal angles ± 180 0С;
- installation weight 6 000 kilogram;

Upgraded gun mount with a BM-57 gun caliber 57 mm
The main purpose is installation on military equipment. Installation is possible in order to modernize equipment and as the main caliber of new military equipment. AU-220M is developed on the basis of the S-60 anti-aircraft gun. The AU-220M developers are already proposing to install this installation on a PT-76 amphibious tank as the main weapon for modernization. Although in the Russian Federation data Tanks withdrawn from service, a sufficient number of PT-76 is used by foreign countries in service.

The main characteristics of AU-220M with BM-57:
- shot 92;
- range of ground targets up to 8 000 meters;
- range of destruction of air targets to 5 000 meters;
- OMS;

    A good cannon, if necessary, the aircraft carrier can probably damage well with small forces and no protection systems will help.

      the aircraft carrier alone does not go, and the carrier of this gun does not come close to the group

    Spelling correction, "used power 14 kWh"
    Power is measured in kilowatts, kW
    In kilowatt hours, the amount of energy is measured, kWh, kW * h
    In kilowatts divided by hours, nothing is measured, the spelling corresponds to a change in power.

    57 millimeters on an infantry fighting vehicle ... It sounds awesome :) Nobody, however, will deal with such a thing - as practice shows, something new does not take root with us :( Or rather, MO is not even ordered :(

    tivi-visor range - 75 kilometers surface target

    About 75 km, either an eyepiece, or 6red. The range of the visible horizon from the height of the ship is about 30-40 km.

    I don’t understand the practical area of application of this gun on the boats, but as a BTR / BMP gun an interesting option

    On the BMP, this would be instead of a triad, the rate of fire would be higher, new shells, a good MSA and forward, "cougars" stab.

      Here I am about the same :) It would have come out very well. ATGM still bolted to the tower, but to make the tower uninhabited ...

        ATGM is not needed, for this there are tanks, portable and self-propelled ATGMs.
        An uninhabited tower with such a massive gun will have insufficient elevation angles.
        We need a double tower with a gunner’s thermal imaging sight and a commander’s panoramic thermal imager.
        And yet the commander of the machine should be the commander of the BBM only, and not dismount with the squad, thereby turning the BBM into an appendage to the infantry.

          Let me disagree - you need it, you definitely need it, and probably not even as much as launchers, as launchers, with the ability to launch guided and unguided missiles in various types of equipment - anti-aircraft, P / t, thermobaric, incendiary, O \ F, etc. .

          I agree here, and I think that it is for this reason (and not only for it) that the gun should be remotely controlled, possibly with a variable line of fire.

          Again - I agree. BUT! The squad leader must dismount with the landing, and command the landing. The commander of the machine is to command the machine. Sorry for the tautology.

          Yes, and the MBT chassis, processed into TBMP, would be best suited for such a complex. Yes, and the capacity of a mechanized warhead would be nice to increase, times as much as 1.5-2

          IMHO, of course.

    An interesting thing. It's a pity that the troops do not receive much. For the modernization of the T-72, there is the Burlak project, which also remained unclaimed, which is a pity. Compared with the modernization from UVZ, it would have been a sweet thing.

    in general, it would be nice to have a line of automatic guns of 45, 57 and 76 mm, with similar ammunition supply, it seems to be a simple and effective mechanism, which is important, and such a line would allow the use of different calibers for different media, but apart from the caliber, all other equipment would remain the same, which is important for staff training and maintenance of such modules. I can’t understand why they want to put a 76 mm gun on the PT-57, and not 76 mm, I think the number of shells will not decrease at all, because the sleeve of the 57 and 76 mm guns is the same, but the effectiveness of a 76 mm shell, especially a high-explosive fragmentation shell, is all Equally higher than 57 mm.

    the visible horizon is about 17 miles (nautical) .17x1,852 = 31,48 km. But not less than 40 km. Best regards

    This gun mount was also located on the first Atom.
    But it was actually a slightly modified ship’s gun, which made the silhouette of the BMP excessively high.
    The new uninhabited module has a completely different layout. It is low, which reduces the silhouette.
    The module can be installed on other armored vehicles, including during modernization. It can be used on small ships and boats.
