Special silent pistol PSS "Vul"

16
MSS "Vul" was primarily intended for arming the personnel of the state security and military intelligence of the Soviet Union. Self-loading special pistol "Vul" - unique weaponBeing a weapon of special services units, it is better suited for unnoticeable carrying. Removing a pistol for use, in one simple motion, is an important plus for this pistol.

Creation and features of teaching staff "Vul"

Developer VSS "Vul" - Klimovsky Central Research Institute TochMash. Designers - Krasnikov, Petrov, Medvetsky, Levchenko.

Begin development of a self-loading and silent pistol 1979 year. In 1983, the creation of the “Vul” faculty was completed. The gun comes to the arsenal of the special services of the Soviet Union. During the development, he received the designation 6П28 (in some sources 6П24) and the name "Vul". From other samples of silent pistols, such as the well-known PB, PSS "Vul" is distinguished by its small dimensions, which make this weapon invisible when worn. Small dimensions and first of all small length of the barrel, achieved by the developers thanks to the use of special SP-4 cartridges. These cartridges have a design feature - the cut-off of powder gases in the sleeve itself.

The use of a new special cartridge allowed the designers to abandon such details for silent firing, like a silencer. In addition, the self-loading mechanism of the MSS "Vul" provided a better rate of fire compared with weapons of this type using these special cartridges. The use of special bullets allowed designers to achieve excellent performance for this class of pistols. The cost of this is expensive and difficult to manufacture ammunition. In addition, the sleeve after shooting for a certain time is a dangerous product, since the pressure in it immediately after the shot is about one thousand kg / cm2.

Special silent pistol PSS "Vul"

Device PPS "Vul"

USM pistol created on the basis of USM Makarov pistol.

The use of non-standard ammunition was reflected in the design of the pistol, which is also unusual. In the gun, automatic equipment is implemented with a free-wheeling shutter; the return spring is located above the barrel inside the bolt on the guide rod. The barrel consists of 2-x parts, the rifled part of the barrel is separated from the chamber and slightly shifted under the influence of the movement of the bullet. The chamber is equipped with its own return spring located under it. The barrel is made inside a special tube. The shutter-casing closes the trunk from above and in front. At the front of the bolt is a retainer, designed as a rotating sleeve with bevels for easy grip with your fingers.

Structurally provided for keeping the shutter open after the shooting of a full ammunition using the slide delay. USM - kurkovy, executed with a half-open trigger and a combat spring plate type. The lower end of the spring is the latch of the store. The gun is provided with a removable single-row magazine for six special cartridges with side windows. The shutter-casing also carries a flag-type fuse and sighting equipment.

In addition to its own sighting device, it is possible to install a collimator-type sight on the gun. It allows you to aim without a covering eye, aiming at the target only aiming mark. The handle is formed from the end of the frame on which the plastic parts are mounted. The magazine is inserted into the pistol grip.

Operating principle

When fired, the bullet leaves the cartridge case and starts moving along the barrel rifling, the pressure of gases remaining between the bullet and the cartridge case, pushes the cartridge case back. The shutter together with them begins its movement. After the chamber is rolled back to the calculated distance in 8 mm, it stops moving backwards and rests against the pistol frame. The shutter under the influence of inertia continues to move, during which the sleeve is removed and discarded.

The chamber's own return spring begins to return it to its original position. The shutter, having completed the movement back, engages with the chamber in a special protrusion on the inner surface, and under the action of the added mass and counteraction of the chamber's own return spring, the shockless braking of the shutter occurs smoothly. Smooth deceleration of the shutter reduces the sound of mining metal parts - almost no audible clang of metal from the contact details. Another useful feature of the design of the gun and the use of special cartridge SP-4 - depressurization of the barrel after the bullet does not create a reduced pressure in the barrel, the powder gases do not leave the limits of the sleeve. In a conventional pistol, reduced pressure in the bore leads to the restoration of pressure in the bore; atmospheric cotton occurs.

Ammunition SP-4

The bullet is hidden completely in a bottle-like sleeve. Powder charge in the sleeve covers the front of the moving part, having the shape of a cap. Under the influence of powder gases, she pushes the bullet, and she stops at the outlet of the sleeve. Ammunition SP-4 has a cylindrical bullet mass 9.3 gram. The bullet is made of steel and has a lead brass band. There is a small indentation in the back of the bullet.
Although this form and degrades the ballistic characteristics of the bullet, but it increases the stopping effect. With a 20 meter, the bullet does not stop either a modern helmet or an armor vest of the 2 class. With 30 meters, the bullet leaves a hole in the steel 5-mm sheet.

The main characteristics of the PSS "Vul":
- ammunition SP-4 caliber 7.62;
- The weight of the loaded gun 0.85 kilogram;
- length 17 centimeters;
- height 14 centimeters;
- centimeter width 2.5;
- firing speed - up to 8 rds / min;
- sighting range - 25 meters;
- The main operator of the special services of the USSR-Russia;

Additional Information
Serially similar weapons do not release more than one country in the world.
Wearing the PSS "Vul" is carried out in an open holster. The gun gradually replaces the use of PB in the units of the special services of Russia.

    The gun is interesting, but does anyone have any feedback on its use?

    A pistol is like a pistol, it’s convenient in that it is small in size, but the cartridge is well done, it plays a key role here, silent, there would be more toys for it!

        The PSS has a drawback - the clanking of the "iron" when fired and reloaded, plus the casings remain in place of firing.

    The wide grip is not very comfortable, we did not have a field holster (there were holsters only for concealed carrying) and had to use them for field uniforms, has very good (for a pistol) armor penetration (a cylindrical steel bullet chiseled on a machine), we did not have luminous inserts, personally in 1999 from a distance of about 20-25 meters, in the dark with two shots he "extinguished" an ordinary light bulb, which the "local residents" did not want to turn off.

      Apparently in 1999 the "locals" were not very friendly and the light bulb was "turned off" for a reason?

    Eagle owl - thanks for the comments.
    What about the sound of a shot?
    Really quieter than a conventional trunk with PBS?

      Quieter! when shooting with PBS, in addition to soft cotton, the clang of the frame is still quite loud, and here there is almost no cotton and almost no metal sound!

    Explain me if not right. I heard that the cartridges used for this gun are very expensive and rare.

      the SP-4 cartridge costs about the same as the MDZ (instantaneous incendiary) cartridge for the 14,5 mm KPVT machine gun, the difference is a penny, the SP-4 bullet is a chiseled steel blank, plus a sleeve with a piston inside ...

    There’s a chip in the ammunition and a pistol. Very unpretentious (what’s already done ugly here)
    The video shows that the eccentric even disassembles it collects .... with difficulty

    The sound is really very quiet. So much so that at some demonstrations of weapons, foreign guests, after a shot, were bewilderedly addressing the "instructor" with the phrase (through an interpreter or by gestures): "really a misfire" and were completely delighted when he showed the target dropped by the shot. And the feature of the pistol, as described above, is the "smooth" operation of the moving parts. This is achieved by compensating movement of 3 parts (barrel, chamber, bolt)
    And the revolver is called OTs-38. It was developed by Stechkin. There, the main thing is that the shot comes from the lower chamber of the drum, reducing the overturning moment when fired.

    I wonder where the rear end of the return spring rests? I did not see the emphasis on the frame of the gun. Who in the course explain please
