Why do American warships and airplanes want to defend the Olympics in Sochi so much?

International assistance in building a security system and countering terrorism is, of course, great. Such assistance in the modern world of Russia, among many other states, will definitely not hurt. But, as they say, cut with a knife, and vague doubts about such assistance during the Olympic Games in Sochi, proposed by the Pentagon, put it mildly, alarming. To be honest, it is not the help itself that is alarming, but the fact that it is proposed by the US military and is being proposed right now ... Well, it is alarming, and that's that ...

What is this about? And it goes on that the two American warships from 7 February to 16 March 2014 (the time of the Olympics and Paralympic Games in Sochi with a short break between these events) will be in the Black Sea. For what? US Navy spokesman John Kirby answers this question:

In case of any emergency during the Olympics.

John Kirby’s smile seems to hint at “fraternal” help to Olympic Sochi

In addition to deploying American warships fleet in the Black Sea, the United States intends to deploy "additional airports" at German military airfields. According to the same Mr. Kirby, warships and aircraft can be used only after “consultations with the Russian government” and, if necessary, the evacuation of American athletes, coaches and fans from Olympic Sochi. At the same time, Kirby added that the flight time of the very “additional airports” of the US Air Force from Germany is about 2 hours - they say, our falcons will surely have time ...

In general, the rear admiral put everything to us, you know, on the shelves, and we are wary, but wary ... Well, fraternal assistance to evacuate "our own" - from which, then, all our experiences about this?
Yes, it just happened so lately that if somewhere American military "help" comes, then processes of irreversible nature begin to arise in this region. And “help”, as we all know, can come under any pretext: from the need to evacuate citizens to support (spread) democracy in a single territory. In addition, American assistance can come even when the United States either does not ask for it at all, or is asking, to put it mildly, specific groups of extremely suspicious nature, seeking to sit down in power.

So, let's try to figure out what the situation may be around the Olympics in Sochi or at the 2014 Olympics themselves, so that the American fleet and the American aviation started to “help” Russia. Given that Russia on the Black Sea has, for a second, its own fleet (Black Sea) and many air force bases in the South and North Caucasus federal districts, then for the need to use precisely the “international” naval and aviation groups in the region, a large-scale alien invasion should take place, not otherwise ... It is also strange that the Pentagon has not announced that the US Navy will cover Sochi from the sea because of a potential threat from the Al-Qaeda fleet or a threat emanating from "North Korean nuclear-fired missiles" ... And then Kim Jong-un how to "kick", you know, according to Adler ...

By the way, why will warships be used for the hypothetical evacuation of American athletes, delegates and fans? Why not use ordinary civil liners for this? And why is it necessary to use necessarily the German MILITARY airfields to accommodate "additional" aircraft of the US Air Force? To take people on board, and then be bombed, or what? .. Using the logic proposed by the Americans, then any country participating in the Olympiad will have to send its fleet to the Black Sea, if it has it, of course. A hundred or two warships will line up along the coast and wait for the need to evacuate their athletes there ...

In general, there are a lot of questions, and these questions may arise even more if we consider that the offer of “fraternal assistance” came from the American side at the very moment when dramatic events began to play out in Ukraine. I want to believe that this is pure coincidence, and that the American “partners” are really determined to help Russia build a high-quality security system at the Olympic Games in Sochi. But only with confidence in overseas partners lately everything, frankly speaking, is not thanks to God ...

So, the US warships are going to be stationed in the Black Sea. Here you and Sochi, here you and the Crimea, here you and Odessa ... In general, the situation is that you can, hiding behind the words about the possible assistance to Russia, to extend its activities in the Ukrainian direction. And the activity may consist in what it was at one time in Yugoslavia, Libya, and what it is today in relation to Syria. A “festive” (timed to the opening of the Olympics and “world peace”) visit to one of the Ukrainian ports can take place. In the port, a transfer of “gifts” to a certain Ukrainian side may occur. What kind of gifts? Well, maybe those with the help of which the Balkans were breaking up in 90, in Libya, in 2011, today - Syria.

You can, of course, say that Crimeans or Odessans just will not allow unloading weapons in their ports. I certainly would like to believe this, but black sheep are in any herd - this is time, and the possibility of provocation by “maydanutyh” or the Americans themselves for the unimpeded departure of their mission in Ukrainian ports cannot be ruled out - these are two. And if we consider that it can work both “once” and “two”, then the scenario with the arming of the Ukrainian “opposition” today does not look so conspirational. Militants who began their journey from the port of Benghazi, “warmed up” with weapons that way. Syrian extremists also do not get weapons in their parcels ... And the mess in Yugoslavia also went through the arms of the "revolutionaries" with the active use of the Adriatic ports.

Let's not forget that the situation with terrorist activity in the world was no better either in 2002 (the Olympics in Salt Lake City), in 2008 (the Olympics in Beijing), or in 2010 (Games in Vancouver), or during the London Olympics. However, for some reason, Russian warships in 2002, 2010 and 2012 did not patrol the Gulf of Mexico and the North Pacific Ocean in the English Bay and English Channel areas, respectively. Nobody asked the Russian military assistance for the Olympics, and Russia, honestly, did not offer such assistance. In 2008, the US military ships and airplanes did not patrol the Bohai Gulf, as the Chinese organizers of the Olympics themselves were well prepared and coped with the sporting event - without a military presence from the US ...

And then suddenly it turned out that without the US Air Force and Navy, the Sochi Games were threatened ... Why should I? Or it is also a kind of hint that you will not allow the ships of the US Navy to enter the Black Sea - we do not guarantee the safety of the Olympics. But why today is Washington so eager to be in the Black Sea? Well, certainly not in order to catch sprat ... Apparently, there are gentlemen who are on the territory of Ukraine today who are expecting such a “friendly” visit.

Who is waiting? As an example, Mr. Gritsenko, who has only recently called on all people who have firearms in their home arsenal, to go to the support of Maidan.

By the way, the Gritsenko surname in this context surfaced not by chance. Anatoly Stepanovich, being in the chair of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine of the "orange" government, in 2006, poured Ukraine and the world over the fact that the US Navy ship Advantage delivered building materials to the Feodosia port to modernize one of the military facilities in Crimea. Then the same Gritsenko was forced to admit that he “made a mistake” - the ship unloaded a weapon in Feodosia. Do not unload the next batch of "building materials" American ships in 2014-m? In this regard, the Russian leadership should be more attentive to the proposals of the Pentagon about "help", abandoning it exclusively in a polite manner and referring to the fact that the black sea dolphins may be afraid of the roar of the engines of American warships - and the ecology for us first ...

This “help” of theirs is basic disrespect for the state hosting the world sports festival. And if you delve into the meaning of what is happening, and do not discount the entire potential of meanness that the SYshYa have, then we can say with confidence that if any trouble happens (God forbid) at the Olympics, or during its holding, it will be the work of " bearers of democracy and justice." They have no conscience at all! The events of 080808 confirm this fact by 200%, then the Games started in Beijing. After all, Saakashvili was afraid to even fart in the direction of Russia without Amer’s go-ahead, but here... And one more thing. Once again, I do not understand the tacit agreement of our politicians and diplomats. Not Putin, of course, the level is not the same, we are full of talkative and loud parasites who are only brave in their own country, and if you need to stand up for it, then they hide their tongues in... Yesterday it was time to squeal on all world channels about “increasing tension in the immediate vicinity of the world games.” Of course, there is no real sense from this, but the public opinion of many in the world may change. Otherwise, all sorts of......... lecture us and throw mud at us, but we often keep quiet about the facts.

An interesting trend in the English-language press 2 weeks ago....Russia asks the US for high-tech assistance to protect the Olympics, the US is considering the transfer of secret technologies. 1 week ago.... the Russians refused high-tech help, the Russians have gone crazy! And finally, Russia did not ask the United States for help in providing high-tech equipment to prevent terrorist attacks in Sochi! Poor Russians, they are crazy! bully

This was simply done in your press, so that later (a week later) they would say - they refused, BUT WE THEN OFFER MILITARY ASSISTANCE. In a word... According to other sources, American ships are expected to enter the Black Sea on Tuesday-Wednesday.
The direction of movement of the US Navy ships makes it clear that they are moving towards the shores of Ukraine. At the same time, it is reported that the question of entering Russian territorial waters is not currently on the table.

The press service of the Ukrainian Navy stated that they know nothing about American ships that may be in the territorial waters of Ukraine. “The entry of foreign warships into the ports of Ukraine - Sevastopol or Odessa - was not planned. There are no such ships in the territorial waters of Ukraine either. Where they are located, whether they are in the Black Sea and where they are heading is a matter not of our competence.”

The Stars and Stripes will not miss such an opportunity to hang out in the Black Sea, to morally warm up the Maidonats and other trash, to show off to the world community with their readiness to fight terrorists, and most importantly - to be close to the “events” that they are probably planning.

How it happened Collision of US and USSR Navy ships in the Black Sea (1988) At 10.45, the Yorktown and Caron entered the territorial waters of the USSR. The border TFR "Izmail" raised a signal: "You have violated the border of the territorial waters of the USSR," and "Selfless", "SKR-6" and "Yamal" began maneuvering to get closer to the Americans. "Selfless" caught up with "Yorktown", and for some time the ships were traveling on parallel courses almost close to each other, but at 11.02 the “Selfless” shifted the rudder to the right and made a pileup on the stern of the “Yorktown” with its starboard side at an angle of 30 degrees. The impact and friction of the sides caused sparks to fly and the side paint caught fire. The anchor of the "Selfless" with one paw tore the plating of the cruiser's side, and with the other made a hole in the bow of the side of its ship. At the same time, "SKR-6" passed tangentially along the left side of the destroyer "Caron", cut down its rails, tore the side plating and smashed the boat. The Yamal commander also made a dangerous approach to the Caron, but without a collision.

With this money it was possible to restore all the churches in Rus'. Yes, and build new ones in Greece. Save all the homeless, build housing, increase production, strengthen and strengthen the army, etc. and so on. But instead there are only passions. But whoever is in his seventh decade and remains in passions will not end well. It is no coincidence that his family fell apart long ago. We didn't say that. Well, I don’t know))), it’s not pragmatic on the part of the United States that there are 600 cormorants against tanks, don’t be naive - how did an entire tank army (600 TANKS) end up right at the entrance to Ossetia? I don’t even doubt that this is not an initiative, but a response move by the United States to some kind of muddle by Putin... Why, no one has yet noticed that he is not playing standardly. Two troughs in the sea are nothing; Moscow will have them, but why? nooo, such a visit is nothing more than a demonstration of support, which is nothing if Yanyk dares, all that the Americans can do is sanctions, you really decided)))) that the USA and the Russian Federation will start a massacre, without deployment, because of what -Ukraine (no offense to brothers)? Their movements will be tracked by everything that walks on the water and under it))))) and wow, how can you stir up something there, without having to explain it, because they are in Black like two poplars on an ivy tree? Definitely a provocation. It would be a good idea to take control of the surrounding areas of the ports where these ships will unload, with unobtrusive inspection of all cargo and people being transported ashore. Illuminate the found weapon, but do not give it away. Yes, it’s also unobtrusive to place a couple of “Bal” complexes nearby in full combat...

The feeling of coordination between the actions of European and American diplomats, the American military and Ukrainian Bandera Nazis does not leave us. Now there is a calm on the Maidan. In general, I noticed that the tension in Kyiv is being pumped up in a spiral, each new turn is harsher than the previous one. If the fight on December 1 on Bankovaya can be attributed to the spontaneity of the crowd, then on the 20th of January everything was already clearly planned. Everything looks like a battering ram. With each new swing, the amplitude increases and there is a chance that soon the gate in the person of Yanukovych will be taken out.
Regarding the evacuation. In my opinion, in the 80s, Soviet landing ships evacuated Soviet specialists (engineers, workers) and employees of Soviet foreign agencies from South Yemen, where at that time there were already bloody clashes between opposing government groups. But I have never heard of warships being sent for evacuation in case of possible terrorist attacks. Even if you take simple arithmetic, it doesn’t add up. According to official data, there will be more than 1200 athletes from the United States alone at the Olympics. If we add to this coaches, massage therapists, sports doctors, family members or friends who come to support, then this figure can easily be multiplied by 2 or 3. And if we add to this American tourists (several hundred, or even thousands more people ), it is generally unclear how two ships of not the largest displacement plan to evacuate such a horde. Moreover, on warships there is not much extra space in the interior, and if you spread people on the deck of both ships, then still another 1-2 thousand people will not be able to get on the ship. Wouldn't it be easier to charter a huge container ship or a huge passenger liner? In general, there are more questions than answers in this situation

It seems so. Sochi is just a cover. Ships in the Black Sea due to events in Kyiv. Clearly something hot is being prepared in Ukraine during the Olympics. Let us remember that the rodents also began a barbaric war precisely during the Olympics and after Condoleezza’s visit to Georgia immediately before that. Now remember who was recently handing out cookies on the Maidan...? That’s right - deputy. US Secretary of State Nuland.. If my memory serves me correctly, the United States previously offered us assistance in protecting the Olympics from terrorists, and the talk was about the Pentagon. And, apparently, ours agreed and received this “help”. So there is no point in “waving your fists.” The United States with its dollars has crushed almost the entire world and is now surrounding Russia with military bases in the Baltic states, missile defense systems in Poland, Romania, etc. And all this with timid protests on our part. Isn’t it time to take a tough position on these issues, similar to the one the United States itself took during the Cuban Missile Crisis?

Was part of the Northern Fleet. On March 21, 1984, during the American-Korean exercise Tim Spirit-84, being in the center of an American aircraft carrier group of ships, rammed the American aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) while surfacing. As a result of the impact, the submarine suffered damage to its light hull, retractable device guards, right stabilizer, and propeller and, having lost speed, was forced to surface. At the time of the accident, there were several dozen nuclear weapons on board the aircraft carrier, and the submarine had two torpedoes with a nuclear warhead. After inspection from the Vladivostok BOD, the boat was towed and taken to Chazhma Bay, where it was docked for emergency repairs. Kitty Hawk was also damaged. She had 40 meters of bottom damage and was also docked upon arrival at the Subic Bay base in the Philippines.

According to the study, Americans over fifty years of age show the greatest interest in the Olympics. 65 representatives of this age category announced their intention to follow the games. Among young respondents, only 47 percent showed interest in the Olympics.

49 percent of survey participants said they are fairly confident that Russia will be able to ensure the security of games, while 19 percent are completely confident in this. 33 percent of those surveyed said they had little confidence in Russia's ability to provide security in Sochi.

Hello! If the topic is not on topic, move it to where it needs to be. If it's very annoying, don't read it and pass by. If you have an opinion, speak up, maybe it will help figure it out.
The essence of the issue is this: in New Year 2014, some well-known changes were introduced to the migration regulations.
Namely, the president introduced the concept of fictitious registration, which means registered without the intention of residing.
Fines for lack of registration have been increased for both the tenant and the owner of the apartment, especially for residents of Moscow, the Moscow region, St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.
The fines for residents of these constituent entities of the Federation would seem not to be large - 5000 rubles. But this is for EVERYONE living in its area, not properly registered - and in fact without registration - as a citizen.
Which ultimately can reach 20 thousand rubles for a family of four! And this is already a lot of money.

    Actually the questions themselves:
    1) What should the owner do in the new realities? According to the law, the state forces the owner to follow the path of the “righteous” and pay taxes in order not to pay fines. After all, data about registered residents will go to the statistics department and the Tax Service.
And if a commercial rental agreement was concluded, you will have to pay taxes.

    2) What should a tenant do? If the owner does not give consent to registration in his apartment, then the guest is forced to look for this piece of paper (registration) on the side in order to restore the legal balance.
Which in the new realities will entail fines. Naturally, against EVERY family member who “violated” the new law.

    3) What will the evidence/punishment base look like? What? - on certain days the district police officer and all the residents will have to come, they will have to line up by height and hold in their hands papers confirming registration at the place of stay in this residential premises, and in addition, show the Agreement,
confirming the legality of moving into the apartment? Marasmus.
District police officers don’t “take away” their work anyway.

    4) Or is it easier to live by the principle - pay and sleep well? In the sense, register all living tenants, along with children, pay taxes, and create a new folder for supporting documents, with contracts, copies of registrations, receipts for paying taxes and carefully monitor their start and end dates so as not to become a violator.
What immediately comes to mind is that the rent needs to be increased. If there is more work, the “salary” should also increase))).

    5) How will the tenant behave in this case? Surely he will be “delighted”...(((I think he will look for an option with “loyal conditions”. He, in fact, needs this registration once or twice every five years. Which is easier to “buy”.
And he definitely won’t be ready to “pay” for it in the form of higher rent.

    6) How to “discharge” guests if they are planning to move out? It's time again.

    7) I also heard that there is a limit on the number of registered people. It turns out that if my whole family is registered in my apartment, permanently, but in fact I am in another apartment, in another place, and, if you like, in another country, then I can no longer register guests, since my apartment falls under the definition of-" rubber."

Insanity, restriction of freedom of movement, restriction in the right to dispose of one’s property.
Who knows what they think about this?

For those curious, I am the owner, I rent out an apartment, but I live in another one, not where I am registered. That’s why the question is tormenting me in all directions.

What Americans want to achieve by dragging two of their ships into the Black Sea, and what do they will really achieve it - these are two big differences. Everything in their plans is always beautiful and fabulous, and the names of their operations are entirely heroic. It's just not much use. How long did they prepare “Clean Field”? And in the end, in August 2008, they screwed themselves up so epically that Mishiko almost choked on his tie. Well prepared, nothing to say. laughing

Let's roll a couple of "Yakhonts" ashore, and then look with honest, honest eyes at the question "where did our ships go?" We will answer the amers: “They drowned.” request

The goal is not to protect athletes. The goal, precisely as suggested in the article, is to provide support to the “Maidanists” in a material sense and, most likely, as a result of some kind of “provocation,” to directly intervene in the situation in order to protect democracy, the rights and freedoms of Ukrainian citizens. And they ended up here, as if by chance, and at the same time helped the Ukrainian people establish a democratic order.

    Hello, dear forum users.
I plan to build a log house on the site. The plan seems to be ready, the contractor has been selected. But nothing has been signed yet, everything can change.
Here are my current questions for more experienced comrades.
    1) The house is planned from timber, the foundation is strip. But the builders of frame houses told me that such a house is not suitable for year-round use. Because if you heat occasionally, the timber will twist and the house will move. True?
    2) I read a lot about houses here: http://wooddenhouse.tk/
Has anyone built one? What reviews, what quality, what should you pay attention to?
    3) What processing of timber is necessary when assembling a house? Is it necessary to cover the house with siding? When?
    4) What work will need to be done on the house in the 2nd year? (For now my plans are only to build a fence and plant trees)
Thanks in advance for your good advice.

What kind of stupid excuse did the Americans come up with again? It feels like they think they are smarter than others. Allegedly, everyone around is fools and doesn’t even know what’s going on, especially Putin.

Or on the more capacious, but not suitable for “evacuations” AC-130 from the German Rammstein? These are the only questions I have. Captain Obvious will tell you the rest. This gay hysteria, coupled with the chaos on the southern borders, will not lead to anything good. It will also be a shame again for the Olympics, no matter what our people earn there. Sochi through the eyes of foreigners: painting the grass and rusty water
Foreign guests of the Sochi Olympics talk about their first impressions of Russia on blogs and social networks. The delight of snow and sea was blurred by everyday problems.

Hotels for journalists were not ready to receive guests. CNN correspondent Harry Ricca wrote on the microblog that of the 11 issues his publication booked five months ago, only one is ready. The journalist posted a photograph of the provided number, which showed a fallen curtain.

In the room of Vicky Hall from Canada, a lamp fell off the wall, and Orbi Yum, who arrived from Tokyo, posted a photo of the ceiling in the bathroom, which was swollen due to a water leak on the floor above. He cannot move because there are no available hotel rooms. “Many journalists didn’t get numbers,” Hume noted.

Bloggers also posted a photo of a room for Canadian hockey players: with three beds and bedside tables lined up in a row. “Do these Russians even understand that athletes are not 12 years old?” - user mjpacheco89 was indignant.

The Tribune's Stacey St. Clair wrote: "I don't have water at my hotel. The front desk said if it's available, don't wash your face with it because it contains something harmful to your face." Later, the journalist posted a photo of rusty water. "I just washed my face with Evian water like I was Kim Kardashian or something," Stacy St. Clair admitted.

BBC journalist Kevin Bishop said that in his hotel there is no floor at the reception, but a portrait of Vladimir Putin greets guests.

"The lift broke after half a day of use. We take the stairs. The fire door on my floor was blocked," complained Guardian reporter Sean Walker.

Journalists also spoke about the lack of Internet. "I have a room. There is no heating or internet, but there is a bed," Walker wrote. Later he spoke about the Wi-Fi signal that suddenly appeared in his room. “Perhaps everything will be fine,” he concluded.

At night, at the Catherine Quarter media hotel, journalists were awakened by an alarm. The cause of the commotion was a guest who lit a cigarette in the room. "The fire alarm went off at 6am, all the journalists ran out into the street. If the hotel is not ready, at least the speakerphone works," noted AFP's Paul Giptu.

The general director of the Magnit company, Sergei Galitsky, responded to indignant foreigners on Twitter: “Improvements, by the way, did you come to watch the Games and the city or the outlets?”

Dangers lurk for foreigners outside hotels. “Watch your step. Not all manholes on the sidewalks are closed,” journalist Joan Barnas warned on Twitter.

Guests of the Olympics talk about piles of construction waste and unfinished objects on the streets of Sochi. Workers line by line lay tiles, clear streets and even paint dried grass green. Later, bloggers found out that we are talking about hydroplanting, and paint is used to make it clear where the seeds went.

Foreign journalists also have positive impressions. New York Times reporter David Gershengorn said in a blog post that Gangnam Style was played in the Olympic Village to set the mood, and girls passing by danced.

“By the way, my room has hot water! And sheets! And a view of the mountains,” wrote American journalist Edna, adding a photo of the city to her post.
"The hotel rooms look like a mockery of the Olympics, but at least the most expensive road in the world works well," said Harry Ricky.

    Hi all!
I recently saw that my neighbor in the country started some kind of renovation, I didn’t attach much importance to it, but in the end I was intrigued by what I saw, he controlled the whole house from his mobile phone as if he had some kind of universal remote control, as I later realized this is a Smart Home system . I would like to know if it is possible to install such a system in an apartment? It’s just that there’s no point in installing it at my dacha since I have my grandmother’s house there and it just needs to be demolished and a new one built.
Is it also necessary to install the whole package or can I order separate options?

    USS Mount Whitney
Formally, it is the flagship of the US Navy's Sixth Fleet. For this position alone, Mount Whitney is classified by many journalists as a “battleship,” although in fact it belongs to the “headquarters ship” class. And flagships in all US fleets change on a rotational basis; this title is not assigned to them forever. In humorous naval slang, this type of steel vessel is called a “cabin carrier”, it has a crew of 320 (of which 155 are civilian specialists), the total capacity of all cabins reaches 1.000 people. The displacement of the USS Mount Whitney is substantial, almost 18.5 thousand tons, but among all the weapons it has several heavy machine guns and two anti-aircraft guns. This is all.

"Cabin carriers" of the Mount Whitney type were conceived as floating headquarters, as slow-moving command centers and are now hopelessly outdated. They are crammed with transmitting and receiving equipment from previous generations, which had to be spread as far apart as possible across the deck to reduce interference. Inside the ship there are conference rooms, spacious multi-room apartments, its own printing house and even a sauna for senior command staff. Mount Whitney's air transport capabilities are limited to a single SH-60 Sea Hawk helicopter, which can accommodate a maximum of 7 passengers. Built more than 40 years ago, the cabin carrier has been serving as a naval majordomo for recent years. That is, he makes representative and embassy visits, displays the US flag over steel armor and delivers voluminous parcels for peace-loving purposes. It was Mount Whitney that became the first American ship to deliver humanitarian cargo to the Georgian Poti during the conflict on 08.08.2008/XNUMX/XNUMX. Rumor has it that the said cargo mostly consisted of high-quality toilet paper - which, given the panicky retreat of the Transcaucasian aggressors, was completely justified.

The second ship of the Black Sea tandem is a frigate of the Oliver Hazard Perry class.
A fragment of the Cold War era, an artifact of the confrontation between two world order systems on the seas and oceans. Simple and cheap frigates "Perry" looked like naval invalids back in the 80s of the last century. They have excellent cruising autonomy, an excellent gas turbine installation, predatory-fast, truly beautiful hull lines... and a truly poor system of offensive and defensive weapons. Poor seaworthiness, poor maneuverability, a leaky air defense zone, a mediocre sonar and an even more modest radar, short range and accuracy of anti-ship and anti-air missiles - a whole bunch of sad diagnoses for frigates like the USS Taylor. As a result, the experience of their combat use is simply shameful.

One of these ships managed to blow up in the Atlantic on a mine from World War I, on a contact “veteran” manufactured in 1908. Another, during Operation Desert Storm, was attacked by a single Iraqi Air Force fighter, was unable to either shoot down an incredible enemy aircraft or evade its fire - as a result, it almost sank entirely and brought 37 zinc coffins with dead crew members to its home port. The American Navy began getting rid of frigates of the Oliver Hazard Perry class back in the last century, giving them away to its allies. With a mandatory requirement (small letters in the gift contract) to modernize these boxes exclusively with American weapons and technologies. Already on a paid basis, but what do you want?

All missiles, both anti-ship and anti-aircraft, were removed from the remaining 15 (out of 53 launched) Perry-class frigates remaining in service. Because the old ones were bad even at the time of installation, and the new ones will be supplied to the next owners of the ships for very extra money. As a result, the modern combat equipment of the destroyer USS Taylor consists of 1 (one) 76-millimeter gun, 1 (one) multi-barrel anti-aircraft gun and 2 (two) SH-60 Sea Hawk helicopters for five passengers each. Particularly touching is the fact that, according to the official classification, USS Taylor remains a missile frigate, having neither missiles nor launchers on board. A good combat vessel if the enemy is a couple of rubber punts with pirates, machine guns and grenades. No more.

The following picture emerges. Firstly, the tandem of American ships cannot in any way contribute to the security of the Sochi Olympics. US Navy sailors will not enter the territorial waters of the Russian Federation, and not a single anti-aircraft gun or cannon can fire within a distance of 12 miles. Helicopters remain. Three small helicopters are not serious; there are many other vessels for large-scale evacuation of athletes. For example, helicopter carriers, aircraft-carrying cruisers or large landing ships.

Secondly, on the Russian Olympic coast there are no very interesting targets for Mount Whitney's espionage capabilities. In addition, the US Navy has much more advanced and modern electronic reconnaissance ships. Ensuring security at the Olympics is actually a unique operation, including in terms of high-tech support. It is difficult to imagine the future benefit from scanning and recording such efforts - this is not a missile defense position area or a strategic airfield.

Thirdly, the pair of an old cabin carrier and a toothless frigate does not fit the role of demonstrators of US naval power. Let's be honest - the combat power of the American fleet is beyond competition; no power can compare with America in this regard. Let strategic aircraft carriers, of which the United States has as many as 10, be prohibited from passing through the Black Sea straits according to the law of the sea. If desired, the American sea hawks had something to rattle in the Black Sea waters. On a completely legal basis and under the plausible pretext of protecting their Olympians.

A pragmatic and mercantile explanation remains - one of the next recipients for the donation of Perry-class frigates is Ukraine. There have been talks about this deal since 2008; now there is an excellent opportunity to show the product in front and profile, on the move and in the parking lot. After all, the sprouts of democracy should be supported not only on land, but also at sea. As the characters of the ancient Greek epic said, climbing into a wooden horse is our gift completely free of charge. http://interpolit.ru/

By chance, wouldn’t there be a couple of mines from the Great Patriotic War in the Black Sea?

Who have long dreamed of meeting someone's destroyer?

Sochi in February 2014 is Stalingrad in February 1942.
Externally they are different (war and holiday).
But in terms of the intensity of passions and the significance of these events, they are in no way inferior to each other.
Bondarchuk's film about Stalingrad in 1942 is the reporting of NATO correspondents about the Olympics in Sochi today.

    PS
Fedorov's report (look at the top of the thread) is a good reasoned argument for my conclusion.

I wonder why Americans show the middle finger, and Russians show their hand up to the elbow?)))

Or maybe this is a new world practice: let’s say, more than 20 US citizens have gathered somewhere together, and, please, send a fighter jet to them just in case of fire! It’s expensive, of course, but it’s cool, stylish and SAFE!
But jokes aside, this is all somehow sewn together with white thread and these “security guards” need to be driven into the neck!!!!

USS (20) Mount Whitney - as before, near Sochi and USS (50) Taylor went to the Turkish coast. What you were waiting for didn't happen?
