Algeria, as the new "hot spot" of the planet

Algeria may well become the next front of the war between the North and the South. According to the newspaper "Expresion", a significant part of the seized by radical Islamists weapons in the looted warehouses of the Libyan army transported across the desert in Mali. Malian Islamists, the so-called North African branch of al-Qaida, are planning to repeat the Libyan scenario in Algeria.

The lands of Mali have become a home base for Islamic rebels, from there they strike at Algeria. Algerian law enforcement agencies, along with their Malian counterparts, regularly carry out “sweeps”, but the Islamists quickly restore infrastructure. They have no shortage of volunteers, they are supported by large groups of rural people in Mali and in Algeria. It is noteworthy that the Islamists use the territory of Mali, as the Algerian rebels who fought with the French colonialists in the 1954-1962 years at one time.

The Islamists, according to the Algerian authorities, received not only small arms, but also a number of heavy weapons, including man-portable air defense systems. That is why Algeria opposed the transfer of weapons from Western countries to the Libyan separatists, the Algerian authorities quite reasonably believe that some of the weapons will fall into the hands of the Islamic underground in Algeria and Mali. “It’s naive to believe that Al-Qaida will be limited to Libyan territory,” says Expresion. Therefore, the Algerian authorities are stepping up the protection of the Libyan border, and 10 of thousands of soldiers and policemen are sent there additionally.

This is another proof of the fact that Islamic radicals are actually fighting against Gaddafi in fact in alliance with the Western coalition, which the Libyan leader has said more than once.

Information: Algeria has quite large hydrocarbon reserves, the country ranks eighth in the world in terms of natural gas reserves and fifteenth in terms of oil reserves. In Algeria, there are quite large reserves of uranium, lithium. Unemployment is high - 12-13%, 23% is poor. From 1830 to 1962, the French colony. In December, 1991, when the Islamic Rescue Front won the first stage of the election, the military canceled the election results and established a military regime, the Islamic Front was banned. The Islamists went underground, a terrorist war began. In fact, it was a civil war, in 90-s more than 100 thousands of people died. Only harsh military measures brought down a wave of violence, but "embers smolder" to the present. There is a high probability of a repetition of the civil war. Islamists rely on social justice slogans that are very popular in society, especially among the poor and the rural population. In 2006, local Islamists entered Al-Qaida, which led to the beginning of a new round of conflict. There is also a national minority problem in Algeria - the Berber problem, Berbers make up roughly 16% of the population.

The threat of Western intervention

Algeria has lately increasingly “upset” the United States and France. Like Syria, Algeria is the most consistent opponent of the strike against Libya among Arab states.

Algeria denied permission to Western coalition intelligence aviation, attack aircraft, tankers, military transport aircraft for the landing of special forces and airborne units. They were supposed to strike from the Algerian border on the rear bases of the Libyan army in central and southern Libya.

In addition, suspicions were expressed (quite sufficient for “flogging”) that Algeria shared its intelligence data with Libya, supplies Libya with food and “closes its eyes” to the fact that mercenaries from across Africa go to the Algerian-Libyan border.

It is a bad thing in Algeria and with the so-called “human rights”, and Sarkozy recently expressed that the “world community” will deal with “dictators who violate human rights, as with Gaddafi”. And it is already clear that these are not just words - France is already involved in the third military conflict (Afghanistan and Libya) - in Côte d'Ivoire.

Quite a tense relationship with Algeria and with the United States, in Washington, expressed discontent over the "overly brutal" suppression of the Islamists. When the Arab Troubles began, a wave of rallies and speeches also swept through Algeria, law enforcement agencies restored order, and Washington responded by demanding "restraint" in relation to the "protesters."

Algerian parties and movements reacted to the pressure of the West from a patriotic standpoint, believing that Algeria itself would solve its internal problems without outside help.

If Washington, London and Paris decide to make Algeria the next country to fall under the "controlled chaos", then there are pretty high chances for success. In Algeria, you can rely on the radical Islamists, who have quite strong positions here, and on the Berbers. Berbers seek autonomy (and the most radical - and independence), their movements openly operate in the territory of France and enjoy the support of the French authorities. There is also the so-called “democratic opposition” in Algeria, local liberal democrats.

Another factor that will make Algeria the next “hot spot” of the planet can be the fact that in the context of global climate shifts, which many experts believe are irreversible, North Africa will become a “spare airfield” for European powers. Maybe the "sweep" has already begun! Egypt, Tunisia, Libya ...
