Russian military in the Northern Military District zone began to receive BMP-3 with DZ 4S24, but without anti-drone protection

The Russian military-industrial sector demonstrates the highest efficiency in the conditions of unprecedented Western sanctions and the sharply increased needs of the Russian Armed Forces for all types of weapons, ammunition, military equipment and machinery after the start of the special operation. Western experts state that Russia, in record time, has actually transferred its economy to a military footing and is in many ways ahead of NATO countries in terms of production and development of the latest types of weapons.

In addition to offensive types weapons, Russian military-industrial complex enterprises are actively developing various modern types of army protection, both active and passive. The conflict in Ukraine, the largest since World War II, showed that no modern and sophisticated armored vehicle can be invulnerable to modern weapons. It’s just that new products sometimes go a long way from development, testing to serial production, and then entering the military.

Back in November 2022, during a visit to Kurganmashzavod, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev was shown a BMP-3 with the latest 4S24 dynamic protection (DZ) installed to the right and left of the gun rack. The head of the GABTU of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Major General Alexander Shestakov, said then that additional protection kits had also been created for the BMP-2, BTR-82A, and BTR-80. This "news"was discussed in one of the publications "Military Review", where it was noted that in fact this invention was already 20 years old at that time. A logical question that remained unanswered was why the remote sensing system is installed only around the turret of an armored vehicle, and not along the entire outer surface.

About a year passed from the moment of presentation to Medvedev of the “newest” dynamic protection for armored vehicles, before in August last year the Kalashnikov concern demonstrated a prototype BMP-3 with DZ 4S24, promising to establish serial production for standard equipment by the end of 2023. The only pleasant thing about this matter was that this time the infantry fighting vehicle would seem to be hung with dynamic protection over its entire surface.

The day before, in September 2023, a container based on dynamic protection elements (EDZ) 4S24 developed by the Research Institute of Steel was tested at the Alabino test site. Board layout tank with dynamic protection were hit from an RPG-7 hand-held anti-tank grenade launcher with a PG-7VS shot, which penetrates at least 400 millimeters of armored steel. As a result of the tests, it was possible to confirm the level of protection of the container based on EDZ 4S24, which was at least 500 millimeters.

And now, it seems, it has happened. The first footage of a BMP-3 with a 4S24 dynamic protection kit produced by the Kalashnikov concern, which just recently became available to the Russian military in a special operation zone, has appeared online. The DZ 4S24 block consists of four elements. Installing this protection on the BMP-3 will allow the combat vehicle to receive all-round protection, experts say.

That's it, it's definitely going to snow today! I was waiting for more than RCC (stationary arched reinforced concrete shelters) for aircraft

— one of the Russian military publics commented, not without sarcasm, on the long-awaited appearance of armored vehicles with DZ 4S24 on the front line.

Is it possible that soon our military in repair shops directly near the front line will not have to weld makeshift protection, apply tracks and even sandbags to create additional protection for armored vehicles, sometimes turning them into clumsy “turtles”? I really want to believe in this, because almost a year and a half has passed since the first “presentation” of the BMP-3 with the 4S24 DZ in 2022. Much of this, by the way, depends precisely on Dmitry Anatolyevich, who also holds the position of first deputy chairman of the Military-Industrial Commission of the Russian Federation, which, along with the Ministry of Defense, controls the implementation of state defense orders.

True, the BMP-3 demonstrated by chance has the latest remote sensing, but for some reason there is no anti-drone protection, which our manufacturers, on the direct orders of the Minister of Defense, should have installed standard on all armored vehicles long ago. Again, as is customary in Russia, it will be necessary to modify it with a file and a welding machine...

Yay, the infantry will love riding on top of this. Additional disruption, so to speak, in dismounting from the car. And you can’t do anything with them, it’s in their subcortex.

But for some reason, anti-drone protection, which our manufacturers, on the direct orders of the Minister of Defense, should have installed on all armored vehicles as standard for a long time, has not been observed.
At the time of issuing the TTZ, the installation of the PDZ was not prescribed. If it really takes a lot of time to re-coordinate the TTZ, then at least they started releasing it like that. Although if you want, you can fix it quickly, there would be a desire that was not initially provided for in the bureaucratic apparatus (desires in the bureaucracy), and even in the Ministry of Defense (there were no such desires)

There's no time for that. Today, Defense Ministry officers in Moscow wrote a dictation. Under the control of the head of Glavpur. I remember in the Soviet school there was dictation for the primary grades. Then a presentation, in the older ones - an essay. This is a statement, not a discredit.

Unfortunately, I have to admit that the current generation of officers does not shine with knowledge of the Russian language, and dictation is a “litmus test” for the level of literacy. Well, who, if not the political instructor, should control this process?

20 years have passed since its creation and already 2 years since the beginning of the SVO for the military industry to finally begin to produce what the “stupid” Americans have been standardly installing on Bradleys for more than 10 years.... And if they also change the requirements, then a new product will be ready no earlier than 2034.

It will be more comfortable inside the BMP-3, especially since the grill needs to be installed on top to protect it from drones.

Considering that the infantry disembarks from it on top, what height should it be made?

Three times one over the elders has one advantage - there is a lot of it.
But neither it nor, say, Kontakt-5 can be used on an infantry fighting vehicle.
Well, that is, it’s possible, but it will pierce the armor (directly, or knock out fragments from the reverse side) if it works. Too subtle for her.

In general, the remote control works, but it doesn’t weigh that much. Why not respect?

It’s strange, just for one they said that it is not very powerful and does not penetrate armor, even lightly armored vehicles, but... this is for specialists.
And so, the Persians hung our armored personnel carrier with a set of remote protection similar to one...
However, experts take into account all the nuances, there is nothing to doubt.

Sculpting Kontakt1 directly on board a lightly armored pepelats is fraught, but this
for some reason they do. On the Internet there are such collective farmed GAZ "Tiger", ours and Georgian ones. But what if you take it apart and screw it to an additional screen, on bonnets or brackets? Maybe it won't hit. On the same BMP-3, a set of remote protection is screwed to such screens.

Contact was originally created for tanks, with their thick armor
What is the current model? The armor of wheeled soldiers and infantry fighting vehicles is equally lacking. Maximum holds a manual rifle and fragments at the end. Treshki, from 4S24, wanted to sell it to the emirs. They drove through the desert, and even seemed to shoot at the side with an RPG. As a result, they bought a batch of cars, but without the kit. Was it not effective? Considering that she doesn’t need the ability to swim there, why did they refuse a highly protected infantry fighting vehicle? And for 20 years, we forgot about this project. And the good old Contact 1 is hung everywhere, plugging holes in the standard body kit.
I'm interested in the opinion of specialists. Will it break the side if hit, if you screw it on a spaced screen?

Rostec came to its senses. Russia has gone through several wars over the past 30 years, there have been many losses of both infantry fighting vehicles and people, and only now they have finally decided to install remote control on infantry fighting vehicles.

Mine trawls are also needed and protection from drones is needed throughout the entire area.

    Work Rostec faster!!!

You must understand that such a body kit will greatly increase the weight of the vehicle, which will reduce mobility and cross-country ability. In my opinion, against drones, it is urgent to develop an KAZ (active defense) that includes an all-round radar, an automatic shotgun combined with it, and a computer that controls the system without human intervention.

There are also boxes all around. Well, in any case, they tried to sell it to the emirs with such a kit. All devices are tailored to the BMP configuration. To hang them on another pepelats, you will have to seriously tinker with the welding machine.

A journalist doesn’t need to engage in reposting, but to start communicating with specialized specialists.
    Why?
Allow me a simple question with a hint:
    - After the DZ canopy, one of the main and key characteristics, features, and intended purposes of this vehicle - BUOYANTNESS and the ability to fire (at 3 points!?!?!) - was preserved?

It is obvious that a wave of 3 sheks will not swim across the Dnieper.

Actually, the remote control for light armor of armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles at Kurganmash was developed and tested back in the first Chechen war. Then the Kurganmash engineer was perplexed why the Moscow Region was “on the handbrake”. There is a series of recordings called “Shock Force” that I got on discs back in the 2000s, a very interesting document. series about our military-industrial complex.

Why should an infantry fighting vehicle weigh less than a tank?
The first infantry fighting vehicle was made with the assumption of suppressing tank-dangerous manpower with nuclear weapons.
Since this is not the case, then vehicles of this weight are tracked armored personnel carriers and nothing more.

Probably, it all depends on specific tasks and plans. Something tells me: it would be nice to have all the options.

Well, it’s trivial: what’s easier when the bridges are destroyed and there is still a need transport as quickly as possible "behi" on the "other" side: to direct the pontoons or launch the equipment under its own power?

The view is certainly strange, apparently all due to the struggle for buoyancy, similar to the struggle for landing ability. But in fact, no one floats or lands.
The BMP3, of course, requires modernization for a long time, it is necessary to launch at least a small series of Manuls with a shortened 57mm cannon, because 30mm is already not enough, and 100mm is dangerous for those inside and is very inaccurate. And the entrance should be normal, and not diagonally from above through the engine... it’s especially good to load the wounded.

Well, this DZ, as I understand it, is hung on the back of the T72 turret to protect against Drones and only saves you from RPG7s of older models. Which is of course good, considering that it hangs on drones. It also comes as additional protection on the sides on top of the Relic.

Question - is it possible to hang Relic on Bmp3? It doesn’t fall off so often anymore, and from the chronicle footage you can see that this box-shaped remote sensing device always hangs crookedly and comes off the hooks with houses and Christmas trees. In addition, the Relic is more effective, but also heavier... although I think it’s still liftable for the Bmp3.

Of course, you will have to part with buoyancy, but why do all infantry fighting vehicles need buoyancy? Maybe leave buoyancy, landing capabilities and a 100+30mm cannon only for the airborne forces and their infantry fighting vehicles?

Bradley doesn't swim, but that doesn't stop him from being a pain in the ass. And you can’t see any footage of Bradley being smashed to pieces; usually there’s a hit and everyone runs out. And the drone and Bmp3 stuffed with land mines are bright shots of detonation.

Therefore, I don’t even know if this is a plus or a minus, because everyone drives in the BMP3 with the top doors open and sticking out from there. And even more so with a barbecue, as it also gives a certain sense of cover.
