Keiji Nakazawa's manga Barefoot Gen was released. It showed the life of the boy Gena and his family before and after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945.

The plot is largely autobiographical in nature, connected with the life of Nakazawa himself, who witnessed the bombing of Hiroshima as a child. Based on it in 1976-1980. Three more feature films were made, and their animated adaptations were released in 1983 and 1986. In 2007, it was filmed again on Fuji TV as a two-part feature film.
