Soldiers of the People's Militia: There are more and more captured Western ATGMs and MANPADS, but we use them less and less

73

The commanders of the units of the People's Militia of the DPR and LPR note the almost daily replenishment of the arsenals of battalions and brigades with trophy weapons and ammunition. Most often, various types of anti-tank weapons and MANPADS are found on positions broken or abandoned during the retreat of the enemy. Moreover, the ratio of Ukrainian (Soviet) weapons to foreign-made weapons in these positions is at best 1 to 4. In a number of positions, there are no Soviet-style weapons at all, only NATO anti-tank systems and portable anti-aircraft missile systems. These are Javelin, NLAW, various German, British, Swedish-made grenade launchers, Stinger MANPADS, etc.

Soldiers of the divisions of the Republican People's Militia note the following fact: there are more and more Western weapons "captured" from the Ukrainian troops, but these weapons are used less and less. The reason is that when assaulting the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, one rarely has to deal with enemy armored vehicles, not to mention his aviation. In fact, there are no targets for which these weapons could be effectively used in local offensive operations.

If Western-made anti-tank systems are used, then mainly against fortified enemy positions. And there are some nuances. Many trophy samples were literally thrown (left) in the trenches of the Ukrainian troops, not even because they did not have time to use them, but because there were difficulties with using them. Often encountered difficulties are the failure of batteries or their complete "discharge". It turns out that the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the military battalions on the front line seem to have weapons, but at the same time, it is often not possible to use them for technical reasons. By the way, the Ukrainian military themselves also announced these problems, recording videos about expired batteries of American anti-tank systems.

MANPADS can be fired at infantry in buildings if a way is found to mimic the profile of the target. Such imitators are already known. For example, these are infrared traps that are fired from airplanes and helicopters. But I didn't mean them.
It is known from the scientific literature that there are infrared lasers as well. A small portable IR laser is enough to point the MANPADS at a ground target in the form of a reflection surface. A building with vertical walls is best suited for this.
I think shooting at 2-3 km should work. At the same time, the gunner and the shooter can be in different places (the gunner can be much closer to the target). The rest is easy to imagine.

buddy, the IR seeker of a modern rocket stores in the memory block not only the characteristics of the emission spectrum of the jet exhaust of the aircraft, but also its frequency and peak pulsations. All this is done to prevent the rocket from "leaving" for heat traps and other simulators. Moreover, modern IR traps quite accurately imitate the spectrum of a working aircraft engine. And here you decided to provide target designation with a simple laser pointer laughing

Where did you get that simple? The algorithm of its work must correspond exactly to the target simulator. In the case of using a controlled coherent beam, this is just possible and technically available today. I have doubts only about mobility. Because I am not a developer of IR-GOS, but I understand well how they work. I do not know only the energy range of the radiation receiver (the radiation energy received by the GOS), within which the selection and capture of targets takes place. I suggested that it should not be too large in terms of the nominal maximum and minimum values, so I think that the "pointer" can be made mobile and used very effectively.
I expressed myself in more detail, if you see basic errors in my calculations, point them out, it will be useful to everyone, not just me.

I don't understand why the hell do this? if we are talking about target designation for aviation, then it is easier to do this with a laser beam illumination to hit the target of the same Kh-25ML or Kh-29L. Why dance with a tambourine and invent the unthinkable?

Look at the problem from the other side. You took the criterion of optimality as the basis of your point of view. There is a goal - there are means of destruction. This is how he looks. But, it is optimal only on paper. This article is about the actual state of affairs, in which a lot of unclaimed high-tech captured weapons accumulate on the front line (if such a concept still exists). It will continue to be so. At the same time, what you consider optimal does not work optimally, for example, due to a banal shortage or supply delays. So it is, because this is also the natural course of things - this is a war, where one of the goals of the enemy is to ensure that your supply is ineffective.
Under these conditions, the successful use of captured surpluses in an alternative way will lead to a noticeable increase in the effectiveness of combat operations on our part.
In other words, the gunner of a captured MANPADS does not care what target to capture - an airplane, a helicopter, or ... a sniper's position on the upper floors of the building. Which needs only to be highlighted appropriately. Because, if MANPADS are captured, then using it for other purposes is not critical for supplying our own troops, especially if we are talking about surpluses that will always be. At the same time, it can be much more effective than the use of RPGs, small arms or even automatic artillery of 20-40 mm caliber.
Imagine now such a shooting - and you will see the whole picture through my eyes. .... A MANPADS missile is much faster than a conventional grenade. In addition, there can be much more shooters with MANPADS for one gunner with a "pointer" than one. And they can be in absolutely unpredictable places and they will not shoot in a straight line, but practically, from around the corner. Turn on the imagination and you can see the new possibilities of combined arms combat. Very close to practical application.
As a result, leaving a conventional MANPADS on the battlefield will cost the enemy much more than its cost ... with minimal costs on our part. I’m not even talking about saving standard means of destruction in this case ... when it becomes possible to shoot for free at a separate Papuan coming out already from MANPADS, costing half a car, at least with single shots, at least in one gulp! smile

There, in addition to an electric battery, there is a cryogenic one, in which liquefied gas, for 20-30 seconds before firing, should cool the missile seeker, there is a problem with these "batteries", they have a warranty shelf life of 10 years subject to storage conditions.

In ukroreyhe, the idea is fixed - there will be more NATO weapons, then the victory is guaranteed. No attention is paid to the fact that the trained units are running out and mobilized, untrained, fighters are coming. And the weapons that are supplied are not always needed in this operation. And the debt to suppliers is growing.

The fact that there are more and more weapons, this is an indicator. Another fact of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the supply is not so bad, despite the broken bridges, railway substations, etc. But the fact that weapons are "disposed" on the front line is they can fix it. Still, the equipment would be "utilized".
