US Department of State approves $ 500 million defense contract with Saudi Arabia

24

The US State Department has approved the sale of $ 500 million worth of military equipment to Saudi Arabia.

This defense contract is a continuation of the previous agreement, which includes the provision of maintenance services for Apache attack helicopters, Black Hawk multipurpose helicopters, and military transport helicopters CH-47D Chinook.

The sale of military equipment is aimed at supporting our foreign policy and the security of the nation. At the same time, the supplied equipment is designed to qualitatively improve the level of security of Saudi Arabia, which plays a special role in maintaining political stability and serves as a guarantor of economic growth in the Middle East zone.

- reported in the State Department.

The White House noted that the deal is aimed at strengthening Riyadh in "confronting current and future threats."

The contract provides for assistance to the Saudi Arabian forces in the maintenance of the helicopter aviation: engines, on-board electronics, installed weapons and components of installed missiles.

Saudi Arabia should not have any difficulties with the introduction of military equipment and its maintenance.

- said the officials of the United States.

The document was sent for review and approval to the US Congress.

It is worth noting that Joe Biden froze all arms sales to the Saudis immediately after taking office as president of the country.

The new White House administration can be considered to have signed its first large-scale defense contract with Saudi Arabia. Prior to that, Washington had sharply criticized the Saudi authorities for human rights violations and the kingdom's involvement in the Yemeni civil war. Also in the US, they called to declassify the FBI data on the possible involvement of Saudi Arabia in the September 11 attacks. But the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks has passed, and the topic has been hushed up again.

The Saudis have always been vassals of the United States, but the further they become more dangerous. As long as the Saudis have oil, thanks to which one can play with oil prices, the United States needs them, and if the Saudis did not have oil, believe the American democracy would first appear in Saudi Arabia.

These contracts were not shared anywhere. They just "got stuck".

The fact is that there is a good tradition in the States - each new administration checks all major contracts and agreements of the previous administration (in order to look for possible omissions, signs of corruption, or decisions "harmful" for the country).
Trump signed a deal with the Saudis near the very end of his presidential term. So, you see, the Biden administration got its hands on these documents only in the very last place (but in fairness, even in winter it was honestly warned that the study of individual agreements could take several months).
In general - bureaucracy, sir ... Although in many ways even useful in this version.

This is more of a question than the Saudis thought, knowing all these American bureaucratic troubles - but still signing such a big deal with the de facto outgoing president. Looks like they were betting on the wrong horse in the American elections. So they are sitting now, poor fellows, waiting ...

There, Trump even let slip about 240 billion. Sleepy Joe is so-so in politics, and in business he is generally useless. But strong in the collapse of the country: one Joe = tandem Gorby + EBN. I really want him to do something ... Amen.

In my work, I have often come across Saudis and know one of their princes. I will not say what they were like 100 years ago, now they live in grand style. Hookah, women, whiskey, Maybachs, delicious food and so on. Their army is mercenaries. A mess in one word. And so with their weapons and literate command, you can bring any country in the Middle East to its knees.

As for your work ... I don’t know, but therefore I will not say anything, but I ran into the Arabs back in Syria, then Hafez Assad ruled with them, and it was 1989 and what they were not given, well, how were they .. ..... and remained so. We (Russians) have a saying ... Give a fool a super duper dick (which does not break and does not bend) So he will break it anyway ... And so with the Saudis' weapons, you can bend the whole Middle East ... just, the Houthis chase them away with pissing rags. Sincerely.

I agree. I just studied in Europe and saw both Syrians and Iraqis and Kurds and Jordanians and Egyptians (refugees), this is a separate topic, they are far from modern warfare (planes, tanks, strategy, and so on), now at work I meet with high-ranking Arabs, the same painting. They love to devour, get high, but they won't be able to fight at the level of the 21st century, that's why the bulk of the Saudis are mercenaries.

Here, here ... that's right, you say, devour, get high ... and I was also finished off there ... the orderlies of the Syrian officers who made coffee in the morning ... in short, the servants. And this servant ... sometimes, these same officers tried, instead of themselves, to send for training ... damn it, I just fell into a stupor. Sincerely

As long as the United States needs them, everyone is silent. As soon as they become unnecessary for the USA, I do not envy them. CA is the main player and tool in the hands of the United States. Thanks to the Saudis, at the end of the US era, the counters of the USSR were empty. They, it was the Saudis, at the direction of the United States, brought down oil prices in the late 80s.

Especially when you consider that the Saudis have a large amount of US debt and US assets.

Here, indeed, the third option with a neutral outcome fled without pretensions will not work.

Only extreme options are either friends of the United States, oil, money, weapons.

Or authoritarian, terrorists, a threat to democracy and the United States. Therefore, take away all the grandmother, freeze the accounts and assets of the country to bomb until complete democratization.

America is governed by Woolt Street and Corporations. Do you think the United States will allow a rich vassal to slip away from their hands? This is contrary to their policies.

I don’t think, but I even know, and for the sake of profit, the Americans will even be able to spin a small war there If they understand that they will rise in this conflict

The contract provides help Saudi Arabian forces in servicing helicopter aviation: engines, on-board electronics, installed weapons and components of installed missiles.

That is, the "commanders" will come, connect their laptop to the helicopter, scratch the back of the head ... Well, they will change the oil and filters, tweak something ... And so for 10 years.
And what remains of this terrible contract?

Well, as they say, your own success is good, but someone else's failure is better. What else are the striped ones ready to go so as not to lose their sales markets?

As I understand it, this is such a benevolent gesture from the Americans so that the Saudis would not be very offended by the freezing of the arms sales contract. But the current 500 million against the 100 billion under the contract with Trump, you will agree, are far from equivalent. Apparently, the Saudis harbored a grudge against Biden in their hearts.

Yes, it's not a matter of offense! They took him for one place, after the case with the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, and imposed a contract that was beneficial exclusively for himself.

The Saudis are sheikhs, so they must behave appropriately and correctly throw money to the right and to the left.
But so that would get enough to finance the elections of the right party.

Apparently, they did something wrong, they should still have a fine, moral damage, etc.

Well, well, the two-faced have already stopped criticizing the Saudis for their undemocratic behavior in the country, and also forgot that the representatives of this country participated in the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11, the Anglo-Saxons forgot about 4 thousand of their compatriots who died under the ruins of two towers in order to profit from sales of military equipment to Saudi Arabia for 500 million dollars
