The Ministry of Defense will change the regulations on the use of aviation weapons against ships violating the state border
The Ministry of Defense will change the rules of procedure of the Russian aviation against intruder ships. The issue is currently under consideration by the Navy and the Aerospace Forces.
The military department intends to change the regulations on the use of weapons against ships and vessels of foreign states that violate the Russian state border. As they write "News" citing the military, the incident with the British destroyer off the coast of Crimea could speed up the adoption of the final version.
According to available data, the issue of using lighter weapons in warning firing is being considered in order to reduce the likelihood of a serious military conflict. As one of the options, it is proposed to abandon the use of aerial bombs, replacing them with unguided aerial missiles. Thus, the regulations will change the set of weapons that aviation can use for warning fire.
The Ministry of Defense emphasizes that incidents like the one that occurred on June 23 near Crimea will only grow, so it is necessary to be ready to adequately respond to them. The British destroyer did not react in any way to the warning shots of the border patrol ship, but four OFAB-250 bombs placed in the direction of the ship forced it to turn.
However, the use of aerial bombs can cause unintentional damage, so it is necessary to choose the same effective weaponthat will clearly show the intention to stop the offender, but will not harm him. The decision remains with the military.
