Day of long-range aviation. Descendants of "Ilya Muromets"

51
December 23 in the Aerospace Forces of Russia marks the Day of Far aviation. The date was not chosen by chance. On this day in 1914, by the decision of the military council of the Russian Imperial Army, a squadron (as they said then) of heavy bombers called "Ilya Muromets" was formed. Bombers could carry out missions at a significant distance from the airfields at the time, which, for obvious reasons, came in handy during the First World War.

The name “Ilya Muromets” itself referred not only to the heavy bombers of that time. In fact, this is a collective name for a whole group of aircraft that were produced in the period from 1913 to 1917 years. By the way, before ordering the first batch of such aircraft, the main military department during the tests at Ilya Muromets (the one that was named as a result of a heavy bomber) had set important records. One of the main - a record for payload. The plane was able to take to the air with a weight of 1,1 tons. The load was lifted to a height of a thousand meters 1. An interesting fact is that the previous record, which belonged to the brainchild of the European aviation industry, was almost doubled by the weight of the cargo (1100 kg versus 653 kg).

Before the beginning of World War I, Sikorsky launched heavy aircraft at that time that were modernized at that time. On the plane were installed new engines "Argus". Two internal engines had power on 140 hp, two external - on 125 hp This made it possible to increase the power of the Ilya Muromets power plant immediately to 130 horsepower, which in those times was also considered a record. New engines allowed the aircraft to rise to a height of more than 2 thousand meters.

In June 1914, the so-called "Kiev" series of Sikorsky aircraft appeared. This name is due to the fact that 16-17 June 1914, the plane made a flight on the route Petersburg-Kiev. In this case, one landing was made - in the city of Orsha.

Over the decades of the existence of aviation in Russia (USSR), a special caste of pilots managed to form. These are pilots who are considered elite in VKS themselves. We are talking about long-range and strategic aviation pilots who today perform tasks not only in the airspace of Russia, but also outside our country. Pilots of long-range aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces take part in an operation to assist the Syrian Arab Republic in the fight against international terrorism. YES airplanes took off into the air to attack the militants of ISIL and Dzhebhat an-Nusra (banned in the Russian Federation) not only from Russian airfields (Engels, Mozdok), but also from airfields in other states.

Day of long-range aviation. Descendants of "Ilya Muromets"

In particular, in August 2016, the Russian long-range Tu-22М3 bombers were deployed at the Iranian Hamadan airbase. The planes launched a series of attacks on terrorists in the provinces of Idlib, Deir-ez-Zor and Aleppo. The relative proximity of the Iranian airfield to targets on the territory of Syria made it possible to rise into the air with a full combat load. In particular, launches of air-launched cruise missiles were worked out, resulting in a huge damage to the militants and destroying their underground command posts and warehouses. weapons and ammunition.

It is worth noting here that within a few days after those super-efficient departures, the Iranian side accused the Russian side of publishing information about the operation of the Hamadan base in the media. In order not to reduce the situation to the conflict, the Russian aircraft, and by that time, not only Tu-22М3, but also several Su-34 bombers, were redeployed to Iran, returned to their bases in the territory of the Russian Federation. Part of the "dry" was sent to the airport "Hamine" in the Syrian province of Latakia.

Currently, long-range Tu-22М3 long-range bombers (the high-level modernization of the Tu-22), strategic bomber-carriers Tu-160 and Tu-95MS are in service with long-range aviation aviation of the Russian Federation. In addition to the combat link, the DA also includes the auxiliary link, which includes such aircraft as An-30B, transporters An-12 and An-26, Il-78 (M) tankers, as well as Mi-8 and Mi-26 helicopters.

The average flight time of long-range aviation crews has increased over the past few years. So in 2015, it was more than 130 hours, and the average flight time for crew commanders exceeded 145 hours. This year, the command expects an increase in these figures by no less than 6-7 hours.

The crews of not only combat aircraft, but also auxiliary aviation ships improve their skills and mastery. In particular, the pilots of aircraft-aircraft fleet had the opportunity to conduct training with the help of modern training complex KTS-76. It allows you to work out the skills of refueling in the air at any time of day and in all weather conditions.

"Military Review" congratulates the pilots and technical personnel of the long-range aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces, as well as service veterans on their professional holiday!

On this day, you need to remember the Aviators of Long-range Aviation of the Great Patriotic War and their organizer and commander of the Chief Marshal of Aviation, Alexander Golovanov.
He wrote a memoir "Long-range bomber ...". Who has not read it, I advise you to read it.
Golovanov A.E. one of the two Marshals (the other Rokossovsky KK) who did not betray his Supreme Commander-in-Chief I.V. Stalin during the Khrushchev period. And it costs a lot to remember this aviation commander.

But the ancestor of TU 160 is Ilya Muromets - the first domestic long-range bomber.

“Well armed (usually they took 10-15 pounds, that is, 160-240 kilograms, bombs, two or three machine guns and a rifle), the Muromets bombed from a height of three kilometers or more and were thus invulnerable For enemy soldiers, one sight of a huge four-engine aircraft buzzing in the sky acted paralyzing. The results of the attacks of the "Muromites" were always very impressive. So, the commander of "Ilya Muromets-VII", staff captain G.G. Gorshkov testified in report: "Muromets" carried out the following destruction in the city and at the Willenberg station (note - now Welbark, Poland): the station building and warehouse, six freight cars and the commandant's carriage were destroyed, the commandant was wounded, several houses were destroyed in the city, two officers were killed and 17 lower ranks, several horses. There is panic in the city, residents are hiding in cellars in clear weather. " On June 14, 1915, during the bombing of the Przhevorsk station, the same "Muromets", but under the command of Lieutenant I.S. Bashko, destroyed an enemy echelon with 30 thousand shells.

Let me disagree with this - "The very name" Ilya Muromets "did not refer only to heavy bombers of that time. In fact, it is a collective name for a whole group of aircraft that were produced in the period from 1913 to 1917". The name itself refers precisely and only to the Ilya Muromets aircraft !!! Another thing is that from the 13th to the 17th years, many modifications of this aircraft were built, differing mainly in the brands of the engine and the design of the fuselage. But they were all bombers Ilya Muromets! The Spitfire also had 24 modifications, but this does not mean that any English fighter of the 2nd world is a Spitfire.
Everyone involved in the Long-Range Strategic Aviation with a holiday!

      I’ll clarify.

The pre-production version of "Muromets", being in a single copy, changed several names in its short life: first "Grand" (it was with 2 more motors), then "Big Russian-Baltic", after hanging a couple more motors, the last name "Russian Knight".

Naturally, heavy bombers of that time in other countries were not called "Muromets", and they overtook the "Muromets" by some articles already in 1914, by some others starting from 1915-1916, and by 1917. Among the analogues, the "Muromets" were already backward; even the average bombers of developed countries surpassed them in bomb load.

There were several episodes of Russian "Muromites". The last and most impressive series was called "E", quite often they try to ascribe its performance characteristics to all "Muromets" starting from the first, but it had only 3 (in brackets, in words: THREE) copies, because the Renault engines required for it were 220 h.p. only a dozen were delivered, and the "advanced" industry of tsarist Russia could not even copy such engines, and had no independent production of aircraft engines at all. And the series "E" has already lagged behind foreign contemporaries.

By the way, before ordering the first batch of such aircraft by the main military department during the tests at Ilya Muromets (the one that was called the heavy bomber in the end), important records were set. One of the main ones is the record for lifting capacity. The aircraft was able to fly into the air with a cargo weighing 1,1 tons. The cargo was raised to a height of 1 thousand meters. It is interesting that the previous record, which belonged to the brainchild of the European aviation industry, was broken almost twice in terms of cargo weight (1100 kg versus 653 kg).

And why are you happy? How long did this record last? Three years
By the years 1916-1917, the Muromets were out of date, due to weak engines.
Because how the design of aircraft should be supported constantly.

And the brainchild of, as the author has pleased to put it, "the European aircraft industry", surpassed the characteristics of Muromtsy.

By the end of 1914, the aircraft of the Italian designer Gianni Caproni Ca-33 took off (military designation Ca-3)

In 1917, as many as THREE "E" series aircraft with 220hp Renault engines were made, since few of these engines were brought from France, and in tsarist Russia they could not even copy anything of the kind.

Although, due to its powerful engines, the E series greatly surpassed all previous Muromtsev, by that time it was already lagging behind foreign contemporaries.

      Britain has FB.27 Vimy

Even before "Vimi", at the end of 1915, the British took off the "Handley-Page" O / 100, post-war designation NR.11.
The bomb load is 813 kg, against 500 kg for the "IM" even the late ones (400 kg for the early ones).
      Max. speed 140 km / h against 70-85 km / h for the early "IM", 120 for the series "E" (1917).
      In 1918 the same company, model O / 400 = N.R.12., achieved a world record of 3500kg bomb load.

The Germans had heavy bombers at the end of 1915, first at Siemens-Schuckert) with a "bomb load" of only "500 kg (more than the then MI), but in 1916 DFW RI was carrying a bomb load of 2500-2600 kg," Zeppelin-Stackens "in 1916. started with Zeppelin Staaken R.VI, "only" 1200kg (!) at long range (800km!) and 1800-2000kg at short range, even with some medium bombers (Friedrichshafen G.III) at the end of 1916. there was already a bomb load of 1500 kg of bombs, i.e. many times more than that of the "IM", with incomparable superiority in the ceiling (4510m) and speed (141km / h).

      Quote: DimerVladimer
In France, a heavy bomb carrier appeared only in the fall of 1918.

France has been making so-called heavy bombers since 1915, but their bomb load was 300-450kg, like that of the Muromtsy, or even less.
But they had an improved altitude (up to 7800m! Morane-Saulnier Type S / T) or adaptation to night flights, i.e. the French thus increased the chances of the bomber to reach the target and return without interference / loss.

At the same time, Caproni's planes were ahead of the Muromtsev in speed and ceiling from the very beginning.

The youngest brother, my grandfather, participated in the first raids on Berlin (from the Mozund Islands) by the Navigator. What did you see below in 41g? that there is his photo in Monino.
He left for Chimkent, in the end, by the early 50s to the Tashkent air complex, and by the end of the 90s they returned from the Russian Federation and simply lived a life.
Life is not a field to go through.
