The Internet is full of rumors that a super-powerful flame-throwing system "Sunshine" can be used near Lugansk. This news caused a panic in the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and how the wind blew it from the position of mercenaries, reports Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
According to the newspaper, not so long ago, in the Southern Military District, several volleys from the Sunchnek system were actually made for training purposes during exercises. Why is this little known weapon so scared of foreign mercenaries?
“The flamethrowers that exist now in many armies of the world work according to the same scheme - a jet of combustible mixture is fired under pressure and ignited. But in the USSR they went another way - incendiary mixtures were placed in capsules and fired from grenade launchers. Such hand-held rocket launchers, flamethrowers are called "Bumblebee", ”reminds the author of the publication.
In the 1970, a multiple launch rocket system was created, firing 220-mm “with a detonating incendiary mixture” missiles. Each rocket contained 100 kg of such a mixture.
“When undermining the warhead in a certain radius, the temperature reached 3000 degrees. Burned all living and nonliving. In addition, there was the effect of "vacuum bomb" due to the burning of air. In 2001, a lightweight and more advanced version of the flamethrower, the TOC-1A “Sunlight”, was created. “It has a better fire control system, fewer rocket barrels - 24 instead of 30, better armor protection and new ammunition. The firing range increased to 6 km, and the radius of destruction of each rocket increased, ”the publication notes.
