“Russian special forces are far from meeting Western standards”: in the US press about the MTR of Russia

Russian and American special forces constantly "intersect" in various parts of the world. This gave grounds to compare both forces on the pages of the publication Strategy Page (USA).

At the height of the Cold War, about 30 thousand special forces were in the service of the Soviet troops. Most of them were conscripts (70-80%), but careful selection and a tough training program made it possible to make elite fighters out of them. As the author writes, the special forces effectively proved themselves during the Afghan campaign:

So, during the Georgian campaign of 2008, the reconnaissance battalion of special forces in the rear guard entered enemy territory, "demonstrating a high degree of skill." As the author explains, in Syria, the Russian special forces managed to keep Bashar al-Assad in power, "despite the seemingly insurmountable threat from the rebels in 2011."

Here, Russian special operations troops clashed with their American counterparts and found that the US forces were more formidable than expected.

Traditionally, Americans have excellent knowledge and, since childhood, have excellent command of all types of small arms and bladed weapons, confidently drive almost any vehicle, and have excellent survival skills on any terrain and in the most difficult conditions. Incl. This is a strong and very unpredictable, insidious enemy, in order to achieve the goal, not disdaining absolutely any methods and means.

Which categorically does not correspond to advanced Western standards.

However, I must say that the fact that Russian special forces use FOREIGN optics, uniforms, equipment, radio electronics, and, sometimes, even weapons speaks volumes. If a country cannot produce even normal collimators and sights, this is a PROBLEM; if a country cannot produce REO, this is a problem. If you don’t have YOUR normal NVGs, that’s a problem. If a country can’t even do normal camouflages, having its own special forces running around in an American multi-camera is a HUGE problem. By the way, the last one is especially unclear to me. A very good Surpat has been created in Russia. In Russia, the magnificent SS Partisan was created (a modification of the SS Eichenlaubmaster, and in Russia the excellent Smog was created (a modification of the British DPM). So I think that in some ways, for example, in equipment, Russian special forces are really inferior to the special forces of the USA, England, Japan, Israel and even China, but only in EQUIPMENT.

        I served in the US Army for 6 years. Naturally, not in special forces, but in ordinary infantry. But I saw the special forces and talked with them. I have NEVER seen them have equipment made anywhere EXCEPT the USA. I generally held their NVGs in my hands - a newer version of what the Army uses. The radios are also ours, more sophisticated than the army ones, but still Made in the USA. The rangers I saw had the same M4s and M249s as regular infantry.
