Happy Defender of the Fatherland!
This year's holiday marks 97 years (if we take into account the official approval of the holiday in 1919, then 96). Having emerged in 1918 by the decision of the Council of People's Commissars as the day of the creation of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army, it grew from a regular calendar date into a real symbol. The very combination of "23 February" for the years of the holiday began to personify not only the Invincible and Legendary, but also the contribution of each of the compatriots who have given a debt to serving the Fatherland, to the security of the state and its citizens.
In the new time, the holiday has an additional subtext. Constant manifestations of the activity of falsifiers storiesaiming to retrospectively reduce the achievements and successes of the Red (Soviet) Army to zero and slander the memory of Russian, Soviet, Russian soldiers who sacrificed their lives for freedom, deal a serious blow to the very concept of “defender of the Fatherland”. Numerous neoliberal publications, acting quite in sync with their Western colleagues, try to distort the term “Defender of the Fatherland” to the extent that among new generations of Russians, seeds of doubt have arisen about the advisability of giving military duty to a country in which a person was born and raised.
In recent years, a whole "family" of various public organizations and structures has emerged, which may be called "soldier mothers" or "soldier well-wishers," frankly belittling the role of defender of the Fatherland. These organizations set a goal not to actualize among young people the need to protect the Motherland from all sorts of attacks, not to provide the Russian military with the necessary legal and informational assistance and support in certain cases, but to do everything so that the very idea of military service is perceived with skepticism.
However, modern Russian society, in spite of all the attempts made by the structures of the mentioned orientation to erase respect for people in military uniform, in connection with certain events, not only did not lose a sense of respect for the defenders of the Fatherland, but in fact united against outright external pressure on Russia.
Defenders of the Fatherland - today it is far from an abstract concept, which has become the name of the holiday. Defenders of the Fatherland are those people who are still ready to take weapon they have already taken it into their hands or in order to protect their brethren on the territory of Donbass in order to prevent the realization of the plans to destroy the cultural space with the common Russian (in the broadest sense of the word) core for centuries. They are those who voluntarily join the ranks of the people's militia of the Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics, who do not chase after awards and regalia, but advocate for justice, for their home, for the house of their comrade, for their land, for the land of their ancestors, who defended it and transferred as the main inheritance.
Today's holiday is also a holiday of renewal of the Russian army. Over the past 2-3 years in terms of modernization of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation has been done many times more than in previous decades, which actually raised the question of the survival of the army as such. After all, the principle proclaimed at the beginning of 90's that Russia supposedly has no enemies, became, in fact, the starting point for reducing the country's defense capability to a historical minimum. That is why today any information about the replenishment of the army with new models of technology, large-scale exercises on land, in the air and at sea is perceived with great enthusiasm. At the same time, the well-known saying that Russia has only two allies — the army and the navy — does not lose its relevance. In today's realities, it’s pointless to argue with this statement (as always), because even those who for hundreds of years acted not just as an ally, but were, in fact, part of a large Russian community, are now deliberately put by overseas henchmen to the enemy Russia. However, confidence does not leave that in this case historical truth will triumph, since, as is well known, force is in truth.
"Military Review" from the whole wide soul of its team congratulates all the defenders of the Fatherland on the holiday - February 23 - which at all times will be associated with the day of real men!
