The exercise of the Russian Air Force began in the Tver region

A spokesman for the Air Force’s Defense Ministry’s Ministry of Defense said the bombing would be in the 500-1000 altitude range at a speed of about 500 km / h. One of the stages of the exercise is the dumping of a “night” bomb, which will make it possible to illuminate the territory and draw conclusions regarding the most effective attack on ground targets. In addition, it is planned to carry out the landing of the landing force, as well as the dumping of the beacon.

This is new - the use of IL-76 as bombers, apparently, the command wants to check the possibility of such an IL-76 in case of shortage of front-line bombers.

Everything new is well forgotten old. smile

All BTA aircraft were designed taking into account their possible use as bombers with dropping bombs from external suspensions and from the cargo compartment (using a conveyor).

I will not say about the Il-76, but the An-12s operated as bombers in India and Afghanistan. These "oldies" could take into the cockpit:
70 100 kg bombs (OFAB, ZAB) or 29-32 250 kg bombs (OFAB, ZAB, PTAB, RBC) or 18-22 500 kg bombs (FAB, ZAB, FZAB, RBC) or 18 UDM-500 aircraft miners for dropping from the conveyor TG-12MB

          I won’t say anything about IL-76, but An-12

I repeat - even all Soviet passenger aircraft were designed with the possibility of being used as BTAs and bombers. To do this, the refineries had conversion kits - hatches, pendants, sights ... Time to transfer - 24 hours!

Not everyone knows - the famous Li-2, especially the Lendlis shipments of DS3 and their later modifications - were very successfully used as bombers ...

Duc ... more than half of the long-range aircraft in the war were different versions of the Li-2 / PS-84. Even a special bomber version was produced - Li-2VV.

In the memoirs of Bogdanov, "Attacking the Guards Gatchinsky", the work of such formations of "transport bombers" is very well described: today we bomb the front line, in a week we fly to the rear to the partisans, in a month we work in the deep rear, in a month we carry fuel and lubricants to our mechanical units ... And for the most part, all this was done at night or in the SMU. In 1945 over Königsberg, the crews were at first very surprised that they were working on a clear day. smile

        I found something:
        2012 year.
This week, at the Kushalino training ground, a pair of Il-76 sides bombed and defeated ground targets from aft installations installed under the BF (detachable part of the wing, see figure 46 below), which are located in pairs. Combat training took place both in the daytime and at night at altitudes from 500 to 1300 meters, several approaches per flight. At the same time, the route of turning roundabouts was reduced.

As a specialist from Migalovo explained to us: “A suspension of various free-falling bombs or beacons onto 4 beam holders of UBD-3DA is possible on an airplane.” Bombing can be carried out both in automatic mode from the Dome system, and from the NKBP-7 collimator sight. At present, three UBD-3DA holders are equipped with three Il-76 boards, which are based at the Migalovo airfield.

Or from external holders. Or as on the An-12: a "flying carpet" with bombs dropped from the cargo compartment using a conveyor.

On the plane it is possible to suspend various free-falling bombs or beacons on 4 beam holders UBD-3DA.

Bombing can be carried out both automatically from the Kupol system, OPB-1 (mounted on a special bracket), and from the NKBP-7 collimator sight.

So what about .. "wheels" and ..2 trolley "are you in vain (so only on the An-12-x, they dropped behind the river) drinks

just think what is 500-1000m for modern air defense (what can I say, and not for modern) and the dimensions, speed and maneuverability of the IL-76? Think about the purpose of bombing today. For the landing of cargo, equipment and l / s, this is understandable, but the bombing ... if there are professionals explain.

An exception is the operational deployment of airborne assault vehicles and equipment to border areas under control not equipped with landing sites (airfields) for receiving BTA aircraft soldier

With the An-12 thrown, many do not represent all the capabilities of the VTA and Airborne Forces. They bombed for accuracy, "hung up" lighting.

I would like to add: a radio beacon is not enough to drop, nowadays, before the main landing, the OKDO group (Separate Airborne Support Command) was thrown out. They installed driven beacons, reconnaissance and provided fire support.
Good luck and all the domes open.
