Summer 70 lessons. About Russia's readiness for a new Great War
22 June 2011, a very significant date for our homeland - 70 years ago, our civilization suffered the most terrible aggression in its entirety history. During the Great Patriotic War, according to the data of this period, we lost 26,6 million of our people’s lives, the country suffered huge material losses, the brilliant take-off of 30's was suspended, we had to restore the ruined economy of the country. The best people of the country, the passionary core of the nation, died in fierce battles.
The war became a fierce test of the Stalinist system, a test in battle of the economy, the army, fleet, people, the whole new way of the country, created in just three incomplete five-year plans. And the Stalinist system passed it with honor - it was stopped, a terrible enemy was defeated, one might say, the “beast of inferno”, created specifically to sweep away the USSR, the Red Project, and the Russian people from the face of the Earth. We can safely say that the future Victory was “forged” by their titanic labor, collective farmers, workers, office workers, managers, scientists, teachers back in the 30s. And the current attempts of the so-called "de-Stalinization" are simply ridiculous, you just need to look at the feat of our ancestors at that time. In the 30s, they actually created a new country, which "went to the Stars." And it was this impulse that the enemies wanted to stop.
But even the intensified preparation of the country for war, and the USSR leadership was well aware that there would be war, precisely for this, hotbeds of war were created in the East — Japan and in the West — Germany, did not eliminate a number of mistakes that aggravated the difficult start of the war. Although, of course, we must understand that modern warfare implies that the one who hits first has a strategic advantage - the enemy may simply not withstand the first and subsequent attacks. So, many modern analysts doubt whether Russia will withstand NATO’s sudden non-nuclear strike with the help of thousands of cruise missiles.
Technical shortcomings of the Red Army
In general, the military-political leadership did everything to make our army as technically equipped as possible, to prepare it for a “war of motors”. But there were also drawbacks, especially, they were noticeable in the field of equipping with communication and control equipment. In his memoirs, the future Marshal of the Communications Forces, Andrei Bely, noted that by the beginning of the war, due to the lack of radio stations, radio communications, including the link, the General Headquarters - the front headquarters - army headquarters, were neither organizational nor technically ready to solve problems in a fierce battle. This is also indicated in his memoirs by Marshal G. Zhukov.
Moreover, it was not only the lack of radio stations that had an effect, but the headquarters and commanders were poorly prepared for the use of radio communications. Already during the war, the State Defense Committee undertook a series of large-scale measures to remedy the situation in the field of communications and command and control.
In the same Wehrmacht, they understood the enormous importance of the communication and control system, which is why even before the start of the war and at the very beginning of the war, German sabotage units, the Air Force destroyed communication lines, struck communications, trying to disrupt control and communication. This was one of the reasons for the heavy defeats of the initial period of the war. Communication problems were in tank troops and the Air Force of the Red Army, so, according to researcher Mikhail Baryatinsky, out of 832 new T-34 tanks available in the western military districts by June 1, 1941, only 221 tanks had a radio station, and their quality was still not the best. A radical change in the field of communications in the tank forces took place only in 1943. The tanks also had other technical drawbacks - sights, a small engine resource.
In the field of the Air Force, things were not so good with reconnaissance aircraft - so, until the end of the war, an aircraft did not appear for reconnaissance and adjustment of artillery fire, an analogue of the German Focke-Wulf 189. This aircraft was used in the Wehrmacht for other purposes: monitoring the movement of its troops, for constant observation, aerial photography of areas, aerial reconnaissance of the enemy’s defensive positions.
He led the Wehrmacht at the beginning of the war in the field of radio intelligence, which gave advantages for preparing strikes on the most important elements of the military command and control system. The Soviet Navy also experienced problems with communications, radar, naval reconnaissance aircraft, minesweepers and their equipment to successfully search for mines, rapid-fire weapons for air defense ships.
Combat experience
The most important reason for the difficult situation in the initial period of the war was the combat experience of the enemy - the Wehrmacht was more active than the USSR, fought in Spain, and practiced his “deep operation” in practice, although this idea was first developed in the Soviet Union. The Wehrmacht crushed the army of Poland, Norway, Holland, Belgium, France, defeated the British expeditionary forces, defeated the armies of Yugoslavia and Greece. Although the Red Army was involved in a number of companies — Hassan and Khalkin-Gol, it helped the Chinese government against Japan, but still individual cadres received combat experience, not the army as a whole.
Hence the psychological factor - the Germans were the army, "tasted blood", they killed and won. These victories finally convinced them that they were “supermen,” “superior race,” unparalleled on the planet. A psychological factor is of great, even decisive importance in battle.
Controversial points in assessing the outbreak of war
According to a number of modern authors, such as S. Brezkun (Kremlev), Y. Mukhin, one of the main reasons for the defeat of our troops at the beginning of the war was the betrayal of a number of high-ranking military leaders, among them the leadership of the Air Force and the Special Western Military District. Like, Pavlov actually did not bring the units entrusted to him into combat readiness, which led to a terrible defeat in the central strategic direction.
In principle, the arguments they cite are quite weighty, for example, the border guard subordinates to Beria were on full alert and greeted the terrible hour of the start of the war. Withstood the blow in the north and south-west. The orders of Moscow to disguise airfields and major military facilities were violated and not executed, the planes were crowded and so on. That is, these authors conclude that the “fifth column” in the USSR, although noticeably “cleaned”, still retained its potential and dealt a blow at the beginning of the war.
It turns out that so far the overwhelming majority of the population of our Motherland does not know the whole Truth about that war, especially about its beginning.
Modern Russia and its readiness for a big war
Patterns of historical development suggest that any global financial and economic crisis caused by the capitalist system itself, which exploits people and drains the resources of most countries in favor of its privileged part, eventually leads to a world war. And the current world is at its doorstep.
The only question is where the main fronts of this war will lie. A number of factors speak for the fact that there will be two main fronts: one is in fact open - the North is against the South, and the second will be in the Asia-Pacific region. Russia is in direct contact with all of them, that is, it is doubtful that Russia, which was its main participant in all the main wars of humanity or in the group of main participants, will stand aside.
But is modern Russia ready for war? If the USSR in 30-ies was intensively preparing for a big war for its survival, in the Russian Federation, on the contrary, over the last 20 years they have done almost everything to lose in this war: the army has been reformed almost without interruption since the times of Gorbachev, and as a result our army such a state that it can be called "defeat without war." In the same short-lived war of August 2008, it became clear that our army again had problems with communications and control. In the defense industry, it was possible, due to military sales abroad, to preserve some of the potential, but the situation is generally deplorable - the industry is not able to produce large quantities of weapons, that is, in the case of large losses of existing equipment, there will be nothing to compensate for them. The disgusting situation in the field of educating the population of the Russian Federation - more than 20 has been largely disintegrating for years, introducing individualism and other attitudes leading to the loss of people's unity in the face of a common threat. Inside the country, there is a powerful "fifth column", which is virtually not struggling.
Conclusion, modern Russia, unlike our Homeland of the 1941 model of the year, is not ready for the Great War. And if in the next few years the same titanic efforts are not made as in the 30s, we can simply suffer a civilizational defeat, having lost the proud name of Rosov, having betrayed all the generations of our ancestors who transferred these lands and their wealth to us.
