Technical problems caused the return of a plane of the Finnish airline Finnair flying from Finland to Estonia. Estonian media reported this.
As it became known, the plane was flying from the airport of the Finnish capital Helsinki and was supposed to land at the airport of the Estonian city of Tartu on Friday night. However, he was forced to turn back because he could not sit down. The reason for the return of the plane has already been clarified - interference with the operation of the GPS system.
The Estonian press clarifies that Tartu airport is one of the few that requires a GPS signal when landing aircraft. It is for this reason that the landing of the Finnish company’s plane at the Estonian airport was unsuccessful. Without this requirement, the plane would have landed calmly at any other airport.
Other flights from Finland to Estonia have had no problems landing at Tartu Airport. Let us recall that between the two countries, given their close political and economic ties, intensive aviation message.
Interestingly, back in March 2024, the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency reported an increase in the number of complaints about violations of the GPS navigation system in the country. If in 2022 1500 notifications were submitted about problems with the operation of this system, then in 2023 7500 notifications were already submitted. There is no word on what is causing the navigation system to malfunction, specifically in Finland.
