Almaz-Antey Concern is 22 years old: what’s next?
This year, the Russian Aerospace Defense Concern Almaz-Antey celebrated its founding day in a difficult geopolitical situation.
The Almaz-Antey East Kazakhstan Concern was created by presidential decree on April 23, 2002. Then dozens of enterprises, design bureaus and research institutes that were engaged in the development of air defense systems and the production of short-, medium- and long-range anti-aircraft missile systems were united into a single structure.
This is, without exaggeration, historical The decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin fully justified itself. Moreover, the Concern became the first large Russian holding company created within the framework of the federal target program “Reform and development of the military-industrial complex for 2002-2006.”
In subsequent years, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation received the latest and high-tech products, including anti-aircraft missile systems and complexes, various types of radars, automated combat systems, air traffic control systems, as well as various types of dual-use products created at enterprises united by the famous for the whole weapons the world with the Almaz-Antey brand.
Today, design bureaus, research organizations and defense holding enterprises operate under conditions of unprecedented external sanctions and political pressure. Despite this, Almaz-Antey successfully fulfills the state defense order, and makes a significant contribution to providing the latest military equipment to the anti-aircraft gunner units of the Russian group of forces - in the zone of special military operation.
Almaz-Antey has powerful scientific and technical potential, which allows it to develop the most modern weapons to solve aerospace defense problems. And the most important “examiner” for any weapon, as is known, is the battlefield, and it is in combat zones that all the tactical and technical characteristics of weapons declared by the developers are tested in practice.
In the current military conflict on the territory of Ukraine, various unmanned aerial weapons - UAVs of various types, as well as guided and loitering munitions - have acquired particular importance on the battlefield. Accordingly, the importance of the combat work of short-range anti-aircraft missile systems crews has sharply increased.
It is no coincidence that the short-range anti-aircraft missile system "Tor-M2", developed and created at the Izhevsk electromechanical plant "Kupol" (part of the Almaz-Antey East Kazakhstan Concern), is deservedly considered in the weapons world to be the best air defense system in its class. Its unsurpassed combat characteristics were confirmed not only by combat operations in the Syrian Arab Republic, but also during a 25-month special military operation in Ukraine.
Let us also note that here, in Izhevsk, Soviet anti-aircraft missile systems of the Osa and Thor families were created. And today, in addition to the creation of the Tor-M2 air defense system and its modifications, the enterprise team produces a number of other types of military products, including the Adjutant training complex and the Typhoon-PVO anti-aircraft gunner combat vehicle.
According to General Director Fanil Ziyatdinov, such a large enterprise as the Kupol IEMZ cannot operate without cooperation with other defense industry enterprises and cooperation with the military authorities of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
“The fact that Kupol always fulfills its obligations also plays a role here. This is an excellent basis for partnership,” notes Fanil Ziyatdinov. - The ideology of our activities is determined by the Almaz-Antey Concern. I don’t separate Kupol and Concern – we are one. All our services work closely with the corresponding Almaz-Antea services - financial, technological, legal, and so on. We always receive support from the general director of the holding, Yan Valentinovich Novikov.”
In conclusion, we would like to add that under conditions of constant external pressure, the Almaz-Antey Concern not only maintains, but also seriously increases its technological capabilities and production capacity.
The challenges of the time require this. And the front, in turn, requires weapons and ammunition! And the enterprises of the defense holding will cope with this most important task.
