An unknown person has locked himself in the Iranian consulate in Paris and is threatening to cause an explosion.
This afternoon, an unknown man entered the Iranian consulate building in the French capital Paris. He locked himself indoors and threatened to cause an explosion, local media reported.
The Iranian consulate building is located in the 16th administrative district of the French capital, in the Trocadéro area. The area is currently cordoned off by security forces. The Paris police prefect ordered the deployment of a BRI special police unit to the consulate building, which the authorities use in emergency situations.
The consulate building houses its employees - Iranian citizens. The terrorist himself entered the institution at about 11 am. He was wearing a vest, likely with an explosive device attached. It is not yet very clear what exactly the man who seized the consulate building demands.
Note that this event occurred against the backdrop of escalation between Iran and Israel. April 1 Israeli aviation launched air strikes on the consulate of the Islamic Republic in the Syrian capital Damascus. Then seven military advisers from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were killed. On the night of April 14, Iran took retaliatory steps, namely, attacking Israeli territory with dozens of missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.
Finally, on the night of April 19, Iranian territory came under attack droneslaunched by the Israeli side. The Iranian army command said the attack was repelled. Local media reported the sound of explosions near the city of Isfahan in central Iran.
