Air Force Navigator Service Day is a young holiday. It was established in 2000, in accordance with the order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Air Force of the Russian Federation No. 370 dated August 2, 2000. The date March 24 was not chosen by chance. It was on this day back in 1916 that the Chief of Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, General Mikhail Alekseev, ordered the creation of the Central Air Navigation Station (CANS). This is how aviation navigators appeared in Russia, although initially navigators for fleet They began to prepare it under Peter the Great - at the Navigation School.
In military aviation, navigators perform critical tasks. Their most important goal is to carry out a combat mission, primarily to provide air navigation, although navigators also participate in solving all other tasks performed by military aviation - from carrying out airstrikes to landing military equipment and personnel.
Despite the fact that modern aircraft have long used sophisticated electronic equipment, the profession of a military navigator remains in demand and relevance. Even the most advanced aircraft still cannot function without the participation of top-class professionals in their management. Moreover, the more complex the equipment itself, the higher the level of professionalism and qualifications required from the military navigator working with this equipment.
The functions of a modern military navigator are not limited to accompanying the flight of an aircraft from one point to another. A modern navigator is a specialist in the combat use of military aviation, on whom depends the execution of combat missions and inflicting the greatest damage on enemy forces. Now navigators control multifunctional aircraft systems that perform combat missions.
A special military operation of the Russian Armed Forces against Ukrainian formations once again confirmed the importance of the profession of an air force navigator. Today, military navigators risk their lives in solving problems in a combat zone, being part of the crews of airplanes and helicopters of the Russian Aerospace Forces. In military conditions, the navigator has no right to make a mistake, and the fulfillment of the combat mission assigned to the crew of the aircraft depends on his professionalism, as well as personal courage.
