Self-loading rifle Chukavina: why is it better than SVD

The Chukavin self-loading or sniper rifle is intended to replace the SVD in the RF Armed Forces. First time given weapon was demonstrated to the general public in 2017 at the Army 2017 exhibition.

In turn, in 2022, microwaves have already begun to be supplied to the Northern Military District zone, and the manufacturer, the Kalashnikov concern, maintains feedback with Russian fighters to further improve this weapon, based on their feedback about it.

The Chukavina self-loading rifle is a semi-automatic carbine, created in two versions - chambered for 7,62 × 54 mm cartridge and NATO ammunition 7,62 × 51 mm. The weight of the weapon is 4,2 kg.

One of the important features of the microwave was its curtain design, where the internal mechanisms are conventionally divided into upper and lower parts. Moreover, due to the absence of vibration in the lower part of the rifle, the developer made the elements installed on it not from metal, but from polymers, which significantly reduced its weight.

The Kalashnikov concern stated that the Chukavina sniper rifle is intended for use at close and medium distances in combined arms combat.

At the same time, the developer emphasized that the target firing range of the microwave is higher than that of the SVD - up to 1200 versus 800 meters. This parameter allows you to classify this weapon as a senior sniper line.

In addition, the new rifle is superior to its predecessor in terms of shooting accuracy.

Has Zelensky already ordered these rifles for the Ukrainian Armed Forces?

For all the negative people, I’m actually not against selling our weapons, but not to our enemies.

And if Zelensky ordered it, then what, zrada? They have enough weapons, especially small arms. The best Western examples of all calibers are available. So what's your question? I don't care what they shoot at me with.

I seem to have already explained in my comment above why it is necessary to produce weapons that meet the enemy’s standards.

Yes, there are many rifles that are better than SVD. But the SVD was not created for these purposes. It is cheap, widespread, technologically advanced, and has a lot of shooters. Naturally, the “best” ones are more expensive, require specialists, and will be rare. They were created for different purposes. hi

If the processing accuracy of the SVD barrel is returned to what it was in the first series and good cartridges are given for it, no microwave will be needed

In the first series of SVD, the barrel rifling was different - hence the accuracy!

Most modern weapons began to be made according to the curtain pattern. Is the American idea more progressive?

If an article about a sniper rifle does not indicate its accuracy in minutes, then this one does. The Dragunka has an accuracy of 1,5 minutes, which is very mediocre for a sniper rifle. ORSIS and Labaev rifles have a guaranteed accuracy of less than 0,5 minutes, which is better than any American sniper rifles.
It should not be forgotten that there are significantly more half-minute rifles than half-minute shooters.

    target firing range indicator

I always “liked” this indicator. Nobody knows what this means, everyone can mean something different. It doesn't have any practical meaning. And the Kalashnikov concern constantly uses it for advertising purposes - like what a big number 1200 meters is! And if suddenly someone cannot, for example, hit the target from 1,2 km, then we can always say that they did not declare that this is an effective shooting distance.
I don’t remember the specific numbers, but at the beginning of the 20th century, many rifles had an aiming range of several kilometers - and in principle you can’t argue that there was a chance to hit.

Yes, most likely no better. Washing out government orders and that’s all. Instead, the quality of SVD production would have been brought up to the Soviet level... well, a semi heavy barrel and things would have gone better... And the .260 rem cartridge
