The Ethiopian Air Force received Russian "first generation" Su-30K fighters.

Ethiopia received Russian Su-30 fighter jets into service; the ceremony of introducing the first two aircraft into the country's Air Force took place last Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the Ethiopian Air Force has received the first batch of Russian Su-30 "first generation" fighters. As the blog bmpd writes, we are talking about former Su-30K fighters of the Indian Air Force, produced in Russia and delivered in the amount of 18 units in 1997-1999. This is the so-called “transitional model” for the development program of the “Indian” version of the Su-30MKI aircraft.

In 2007, India returned all 18 Su-30K aircraft to Russia in exchange for full-fledged Su-30MKI fighters. In 2011, all aircraft were transported from India to Belarus on the 558th aviation repair plant in Baranovichi, where they were stored for the purpose of further resale.

In 2013, 12 former Indian Su-30K fighters were purchased by Angola with delivery in 2017 after modifications and repairs that were carried out in Belarus. An attempt to sell the remaining six aircraft to the same Angola failed. But, judging by the information that has appeared, they were still purchased by Ethiopia. So far there is no information on this contract, so it is not possible to say when the Air Force of this country will receive the remaining four aircraft.

If you really want, it is quite possible to get really valuable goods from Ethiopia. And if you play for the long haul, you can also win by giving them these planes

Fucking Ethiopian... The Su 30 is already being added to the arsenal. In fact, Ethiopia has always taken the Air Force seriously and all the equipment was ours. Even at Mig 21 I trained them, and they had Mig 23 and... yes, they had almost the entire arsenal of our aircraft, then they somehow died down (with the collapse of the USSR), but apparently the tradition is being revived.
Yes, you are right, our interests in this region are present and we need this deal (even for pennies).

What did we win when Africans were forgiven billions?

Yes, I have no doubt about that. I doubt our managers. There are even more in India really valuable goods. But instead of them we received rupees, which the Indians themselves do not need! You don’t allow such an awkward situation here too?

How, in the intricacies of politics, someone forgives someone’s debts and someone receives contracts is not known. I also don’t understand why we forgive someone billions, but force our own people into bankruptcy? There are a lot of questions and no one will answer us

They revived current trade and redirected goods and resources for sale from Europe to Africa. Yes, this seems terribly unprofitable, but firstly, these debts were still clearly irrevocable, and secondly, imagine yourself in the place of a person who is being strangled, for him every breath of air will be worth its weight in gold, the same here, they are very strangling our economy and trade, and this, although small, is a weakening of the stranglehold. But what is traded and in what volumes, this information is classified in order to avoid secondary sanctions.

Yes, it seems like more than a 3,5% increase in GDP at the end of 2023. Doesn’t look like strangulation! Maybe there was no need to forgive? And the volume of trade with Africa is tiny compared to China.

The country's exports are around $3 billion
The structure of exports from Ethiopia in 2022 was represented by the following main product groups:
49% (1,52 billion USD): 09 - Coffee, tea, mate, or Paraguayan tea, and spices
17,1% (USD 529 million): 07 - Vegetables and some edible roots and tubers
9,22% (284 million US $): 12 - Oilseeds and fruits; other seeds, fruits and grains; medicinal plants and plants for technical purposes; straw and forage

And if you take a long look, then:
The Ethiopian Highlands (Kolla region) is the birthplace of the coffee tree, as well as a number of varieties of wheat and rye. Minerals: gold, platinum, sulfur, copper, iron ores,

APASUS (Pavo), it is somehow very inadequate during the Northern Military District and the approaching direct conflict between Russia and NATO, to exchange Russian combat fighters needed by the Russian Armed Forces for Ethiopian coffee and tea.

Can be exchanged for spare parts for civilian Boeings and their maintenance. This is how Iran works with them.
