Palestinian forces attacked Israel's second most important power plant, breaking through the missile defense system
Today, Israel's second most powerful power plant, Rutenberg, was hit by powerful rocket attacks from the Palestinian Hamas movement. This is reported by the Israeli and Arab press.
The power plant is located in Ashkelon, in close proximity to the Mediterranean coast. Apparently, Palestinian forces managed to break through the Iron Dome missile defense system, which was unable to protect one of the country’s most important strategic facilities from missile attacks. The fire is currently ongoing at the power plant and is being extinguished by emergency services.
Hamas continues to attack targets inside Israel. Since the morning, several thousand rockets have already been fired at Israel, which the Israeli authorities admit. In addition, on the border with the Gaza Strip, Hamas was able to capture one of the Israeli military bases.
Palestinian forces managed to capture at least 57 Israeli soldiers, police and settlers. Previously, 35 prisoners were reported, but then their number increased. Members of Palestinian radical organizations occupied at least seven settlements near the border with the Gaza Strip and even appeared on the streets of the large city of Ashkelon by Israeli standards.
The Israel Defense Forces is currently conducting an emergency mobilization of reservists. Authorities expect to recruit tens of thousands of Israelis with military service experience. Israeli rabbis appealed to the country's believing citizens to take up weapon, despite the fact that today is Saturday. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu no longer even announced the start of an operation against Palestinian forces, but a full-fledged war.
