Advantages and disadvantages of the 9mm Yarygin pistol
The pistol under the index 6P35 was developed as part of the Grach R&D program by a team of designers led by V. A. Yarygin to replace the PM.
In 1993, this sample weapons took part in the competition of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and after lengthy tests and improvements was declared the winner in 2000. In 2003, the pistol, which received the name "9-mm Yarygin pistol" (PYa), entered service with the RF Armed Forces.
The mass production of PYa for the Russian army was launched in 2011. In addition to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, this weapon is used in a number of Russian law enforcement agencies and law enforcement agencies.
In addition, the 9-mm Yarygin pistol received an export version and today, in addition to Russia, it is operated in Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania and the Republic of Belarus.
PYa is a self-loading pistol chambered for 9x19 mm. The initial velocity of the bullet is 340 m/s, the effective range is 50 meters. The magazine capacity is designed for 18 rounds (until 2004 - 17).
Despite the fact that the pistol won the competition and was put into service, the feedback from the operators about it is very mixed.
So, the indisputable advantages compared to the same PM include: less recoil force and toss, a larger magazine capacity, a 9x19 mm cartridge and high accuracy with intuitive shooting.
On the other hand, it also has significant disadvantages. In particular, frequent misfires when used "cold", delays in firing, heavy weight associated with an all-metal construction, sharp edges of the magazine jaws, which can leave cuts on the hands, as well as a high probability of breakage, since the pistol consists of many small parts.
