A story from an eyewitness to the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina: what it takes to survive in the blockade
The armed conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which broke out in 1992 on ethnic grounds and finally undermined the foundation of Yugoslav statehood, until recently was considered the bloodiest in the post-war stories. According to various sources, from 70 to 200 thousand people became victims of this war.
At the same time, the aforementioned conflict was particularly cruel. According to the story of a resident of one of the cities, which was blockaded by the army for a year, already in the third month, people in it "returned to the Stone Age."
Life support services, hospitals, shops did not work in the settlement, and there was also no water and electricity supply. At the same time, armed gangs roamed the streets, ready to kill for a can of stew.
According to the man who survived with his family in this hell, they were saved only by the number (15 people) and the presence of several firearms weapons.
Based on his own experience, an eyewitness to what is happening in Bosnia and Herzegovina told what is needed to survive in the blockade.
First of all, according to the man, these are medicines. Especially antibiotics, hemostatic and sterile dressings. After all, many died from various infections or blood poisoning.
It is also worth stocking up on items that can be easily exchanged for something. Money, as the man put it, loses value very quickly in a besieged city.
Regarding barter, here you can come in handy: lighters, batteries, matches, alcohol, cigarettes, candles, medicines, cartridges, stew, etc. Typically, things should be as small as possible in size, which can be easily hidden. Otherwise, if someone finds out that you have something useful, you will certainly be attacked by robbers. In the state of blockade, many people lose their human qualities and try to survive at any cost.
It is worth taking care of food supplies. Naturally, we are talking about products with a long shelf life: cereals, stew, canned food, salt, sugar, etc.
Finally, according to a survivor of the blockade, weapons are the key to your safety. At the same time, he emphasizes that the latter should be as simple and reliable as possible. Of course, you need to take care of a sufficient amount of ammunition for him.
At the same time, as the man put it, expensive and branded items have no practical value in such situations. During the exchange, in terms of value, they will not differ from ordinary goods. At the same time, they will definitely become a "bait" for armed gangs and thieves.
