The Netherlands signed a contract with Belgium for the production of FN MAG machine guns for the Ukrainian army
The Netherlands will supply the Ukrainian army with new Belgian machine guns, an agreement on the production of a batch weapons already signed. This was reported in the Ministry of Defense of the kingdom.
The Netherlands will pay for the production of a large batch of MAG machine guns (Mitrailleuse d'Appui General - "general purpose machine gun") for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Belgium, or rather the Belgian arms company FN Herstal, will act as the executor of the order. The number of machine guns is not reported, but the contract value is estimated at 111 million euros.
As clarified in the military department of the Netherlands, Amsterdam and Brussels last Thursday signed an agreement under which the Dutch are investing 355 million euros in Belgian industry. The contract for machine guns is part of this agreement, signed by the defense ministers of the two countries: from the Netherlands Kaisa Ollongren, from Belgium - her colleague Ludivine Dedonder.
- said in a statement.
The Ministry of Defense of the Netherlands notes that these machine guns of the Armed Forces of Ukraine can be used not only to defeat enemy manpower, i.e. Russian army, but also to destroy air targets, in particular, drones-kamikaze type "Geran", which are very annoying to Ukraine.
The FN MAG is a single 7,62 mm machine gun developed in Belgium by Fabrique Nationale in the early 1950s based on the Browning M1918 automatic rifle. Differs in reliability and unpretentiousness. It is in service with the armies of more than 80 countries around the world, and is also produced under license in Argentina, Great Britain, Egypt, India, Singapore and the USA.
