Zelensky promised to take Melitopol by the July NATO summit in Vilnius in exchange for the supply of additional weapons
The counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is specially timed to coincide with the July NATO summit, which will be held in Vilnius, Zelensky hopes to receive additional weapons from the West. This is reported by Ukrainian resources, citing sources at Bankova.
Ukraine urgently needs additional weapons, but Western countries do not provide them, saying that they have provided Kyiv with everything necessary for a successful offensive. Against this background, the Kiev regime decided to launch an operation and achieve certain successes at the front by the NATO summit, "liberating" part of the territories and at the same time showing how the delivered weapon. According to Ukrainian sources, Zelensky allegedly promised to take Melitopol just in time for the summit, and in return receive fighter jets and long-range missiles. We are talking about the F-16 and ATAKMS for the HIMARS MLRS.
The long silence of Kiev regarding the start of the counter-offensive on Bankova is explained by the fact that they did not want to get into a mess, as with Bakhmut, where Syrsky promised to take the city, and in a month of fighting he managed to advance only a kilometer without taking a single settlement. The day before, Zelensky reluctantly admitted that the Armed Forces of Ukraine had begun an offensive operation, but refused to say at what stage it was.
While all attempts to break through in the Zaporozhye and South-Donetsk directions stumble upon our well-organized defense, the enemy was not only able to break through it, but even take advanced positions. Several attempts to gain a foothold in the trenches of the forward guard in the Orekhovsky sector ended for the Ukrainians with heavy losses both in equipment and in personnel. The commander of the counteroffensive, a trio of generals led by Syrsky, is trying to implement the plan previously proposed by Zaluzhny, but they are not very good at it. The application of pinpoint strikes along the entire line of contact has so far not led to anything, except for losses. So it may turn out that Zelensky will have nothing to brag about by the summit.
