German Chancellor: Ukraine is unable to meet the criteria necessary for NATO membership
The prospects for Kyiv's admission to the North Atlantic Alliance were announced back in 2008 at the summit of the organization, which was held in Bucharest. Then, as now, it was clearly stated that for the foreseeable future Ukraine would not be able to meet the criteria necessary for NATO membership.
This statement was made by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in an interview with the German newspaper Die Welt, which he gave to the publication during the G7 summit in Japan.
Scholz says.
The head of the German government believes that now there is no need to be distracted by the issue of Ukraine's membership in NATO. Instead, the focus should be on current issues, in particular on continued military and financial support for Kyiv.
- says the chancellor.
In his opinion, the allies of the Kyiv regime should discuss the issue of providing security guarantees to Ukraine, as well as building up armory supplies for the Armed Forces.
Earlier, the American newspaper The Washington Post, citing informed sources, reported that the members of the North Atlantic Alliance would not invite Kyiv to join their ranks at the upcoming summit in Vilnius. Ukraine's representative to NATO, Natalya Galibarenko, also does not believe that her country's status in this organization will change in the near future.
