The French Defense Minister promised to double the military production in the country by the end of this year.
In France, by the end of 2023, it is planned to double the production of ammunition and military equipment. This was announced by the Minister of Defense of the country Sebastian Lecornu in an interview with the newspaper Echos.
As the head of the French military department noted, some progress is already being observed. For example, Thales is doubling its production of Ground Master radars. Instead of 12 radars, 24 radars per year will be produced from September. The production of Caesar artillery pieces will also double: Nexter will produce eight units per month instead of four.
Lecornu also announced an increase in the production of Mistral missiles to double to 40 units per month by the end of this year. The missile production time will also be reduced from 30 to 15 months.
The French government, together with Italy and the UK, has asked the manufacturer of missiles for the Samp / T anti-aircraft missile system to reduce the production time from 40 to 18 months.
Decisions to increase the pace of production and the amount of ammunition and military equipment produced are taken by the French leadership in connection with two main reasons. Firstly, arms supplies to Ukraine are increasing, which requires replenishment of stocks weapons and equipment in the arsenals of the armies of NATO countries.
Secondly, it is planned to strengthen the combat power of the French armed forces, as well as the armies of other countries of the North Atlantic Alliance, which are armed with French military equipment.
