The head of the Union of German soldiers: the lack of political will hinders the equipping of the army
The existing budget schemes and structures in Germany, whose functions include ensuring the acquisition of military equipment for the army, are too slow.
This was stated by the head of the Union of Bundeswehr military personnel Andre Wüstner.
In an interview with the German TV channel ZDF, Wüstner criticized the German government, accusing it of a lack of "political will", which is causing a slowdown in production and provision of equipment for the army.
Wüstner stressed that due to shortcomings in the structure of the budget legislation and the procurement system, the deliveries of the necessary weapons, ammunition and military materials. This is due to the lack of political will observed in recent years.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, after taking office, solved the politically conditioned problem of arms production, but it was too late.
According to Wustner, significant financial injections are needed to ensure that the Bundeswehr is properly equipped in the long term. An increase in the military budget is eagerly awaited not only by the German army, but also by the military industry and Germany's foreign allies.
Wüstner also stressed that the European Union's joint procurement structures are too bureaucratic and urged the German authorities to make efforts at the national level by increasing the production capacity for the production of ammunition.
In addition, the head of the Union of German Servicemen noted that Germany does not have sufficient ammunition production capacity and is not able to provide the supplies necessary to continue the armed conflict in Ukraine.
