In the US, again reflect on the modernization of the Zumwalt-class stealth destroyers

In the United States, they do not lose hope of attaching "super destroyers". Some congressmen are already expressing considerations about sending these ships "for scrap" altogether, as happened with the Independence and Freedom types.

Last month, the US Navy awarded HII Ingalls Shipbuilding a $10,5 million contract to plan a period of modernization for Zumwalt and Michael Monsoor (DDG-1001). The Navy said it plans to launch hypersonic missiles from Zumwalt-class destroyers no later than 2025, and from Virginia-class attack submarines no later than 2028. It is planned to place at least 12 missiles aboard each destroyer of the specified class.

No other details of the contract were disclosed. Apparently, the idea of arming these "white elephants" with laser weapons, an electromagnetic gun was considered too fantastic, even for such fantastically expensive ships. However, the new agreement also raises strong doubts both in terms of the timing and the very possibility of implementation.

At the moment, only one successful test of a hypersonic missile is known, which exceeded the speed of 5 M. But this is an air-launched missile. If the speed of the carrier aircraft, about 5 km / h, is taken away from the speed of 1000 M, then for the marine version it is by no means hypersonic. Whether it will be brought "to mind" and in what timeframe is still unknown.

It is not clear yet with the issue of placing promising missiles on board destroyers. In regular UVP Mk. 41 they will not fit - at least in the dimensions that we are talking about now. There were rumors that the volumes in the bow, freed up after the dismantling of the artillery systems, were used to accommodate missile weapons. But so far these are only rumors, and the guns themselves are still in their regular places. They want to supplement the upcoming modernization with new radars, replace the SPY-3 radar with SPY-6 (v) 3.

Thus, stealth destroyers, each costing up to $4 billion, are again being reformatted and modernized in the United States. Now with the help of sea-based hypersonic weapons, which do not exist yet...

You are talking like an amateur. But how did you cut the dough? It is better to invest another 5-6 billion dollars in the modernization of each destroyer.

It is quite possible, taking into account the cost of missiles and launchers, + dismantling of ship structures and assembly "in a new way."

Zumwalt can already become a household name, because. any unusable object can be safely called that and I’ll understand what it’s all about.
the cost of each of which reaches 4 billion dollars,
Think again, money down the drain. For the first time or something for the Pentagon. The main thing is that before that this money was mastered by the military-industrial complex companies.

So twice! Watch your hands: the original jamb with Zyama is that it was designed for a non-existent weapon. In general, it should be artillery, the main armament is a railgun, everything is generally tied to the use of a railgun. Well, there is no railgun, but what can you propagate? And pratsyuemo that Zyama under hypersound! O!
Attention, question. Do you have hypersonic missiles?
      laughing
Let's skip the details, one painfully stupid question - do you know the size of the rockets? How are you going to reconfigure Zyama if you don't know how long a cucumber to put into it!!!

The new project of the destroyer DDG (X) already provides for new enlarged launchers (12 instead of 32 Mk-41). These will be installed / tested on Zamvolts.

They do not exist, and the "new cells" sucked from the finger will not replace this. It is not even known whether they will have a hot or cold start - and these are two fundamentally different configurations

I know for sure - it was designed for a space-time annihilator. Only the batteries for it could not be taken away by the entire US fleet, and there is already a prototype of the annihilator itself. Plywood, yes.

The Americans have two hulls in service and one is being completed on the water. That's where the money was cut, oh lobbying.

I understand when the Russians write this and that a lot of money uselessly and cut it, but it’s somehow not decent to count other people’s money) let the Americans worry about it.

This is completely different) Let them remove the artillery, let them. Then, to the zumwalt, guards will also have to be given for protection. Not otherwise Arly Burke will be singled out. I love such stories when they don’t happen to us))) In fact, the essence of the problem is as simple as three pennies: another lobby has steamed the Pentagon like a pedal sucker at the train station in the 90s (look carefully, we definitely win). And now the sucker who lost the apartment (that is, the destroyers - the money went to build three Zyam) boasts of the consolation prize that the boats shoved into him so that he doesn’t run to the cops (it’s not worth it, it’s not worth it ... But how it hangs!)
If Zyama is cut into pins and needles, then this is an unequivocal indicator - "they threw a sucker." Clarifications will begin, how and where, who exactly signed the project, in which the AUG support vessel is more expensive than an aircraft carrier, and besides, it’s unarmed, and the engine is not in ... And the Red Army will not take it all the more ...

don’t be fooled by sloppiness, the largest sums in the zamvolt program went not to the hull, but to promising internal systems, for example, propulsion devices with drives where hydroacoustic unmasking is reduced, due to the fact that mechanical vibrations were converted into parasitic currents and heat

Yes. And that is why they are dragged to the docks by tugboats, because. the translated vibrations are offended and what for knock out the seals on the main shaft (I exaggerate), arranging a leak and overspending of diapers on the team (probably from delight) ...

with the question of placing promising missiles on board destroyers. In regular UVP Mk. 41 they won't fit

The author, it seems, is not aware that it is not UVP Mk that are on the Zamvolts. 41, but the larger and noticeably larger cells of the UVP Mk. 57.

They were planned. But, in order to save money (this is not a joke, that's what I read in a mattress magazine), we decided to leave the old Mk. 41, because in the new Mk. 57 still had nothing to shove.

There are 80 MK57 cells on Zamvolta, as planned.
Tactical strike weapons 20 × UVP Mk.57 for 80 Tomahawk, ASROC or ESSM or Standard missiles

        https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Эскадренные_миноносцы_типа_«Замволт»
There is only talk about inserting a certain amount of MK80 instead of a gun mount in addition to these 57 MK41 cells.

Quote from the article you indicated: In November 2017, it became known that the United States was partially reducing project funding by refusing to create some systems for subsequent ships in the series. In particular, they will abandon the general ship computing environment and the vertical missile launch system Mk57

Unlike the Russian Federation, the United States makes weapons on ships universal. GP (Dagger type) specialized anti-ship missile complex of the Onyx type ...... The original idea with a long-barreled 155mm gun was more interesting.
