Latvian Defense Minister Inara Murniece promised to supply Kyiv with a new batch of military aid, including helicopters
Latvia has decided to help Ukraine with weapons, the supply of a batch of military aid from the Latvian Ministry of Defense will be transferred to Kyiv after a meeting of NATO defense ministers at the Ramstein base in Germany on January 20, there are no more exact dates. This was stated by the Minister of Defense of Latvia Inara Murniece.
The head of the Latvian military department, along with his retinue, arrived in Kyiv, where she met with her Ukrainian counterpart Alexei Reznikov. The main topic of the meeting was strengthening the power of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, i.е. providing military assistance, as well as cooperation between the two countries in the military sphere. In a conversation, Murniece confirmed that Latvia would supply Ukraine with a batch of Stinger anti-aircraft missile systems, but after a meeting at the Ramstein base.
Also, the Latvian Minister of Defense promised to transfer to Kyiv Drones, machine guns along with ammunition and helicopters, no other details. Murniece reported about Stinger MANPADS and drones back in the first ten days of January, but it was said about helicopters for the first time. Even in Ukrainian publics there is no reliable information, only assumptions. It is worth noting that Latvia has already transferred helicopters to Ukraine, it was last August, when Kyiv received four rotorcraft: a pair of Mi-2s and a pair of Mi-17s, one of which needed capital. The equipment was donated free of charge.
- Murniece Reznikov shook his hand for a long time, thanking for the yet untransmitted weapon.
It is worth noting that Latvia is not as active in providing military assistance to Ukraine as Lithuania, but it also supplies various weapons from time to time. In particular, the Latvian Ministry of Defense supplied Ukraine with six M109 self-propelled guns in the M109A5OE variant, small arms and ammunition, etc.
