Stoltenberg: EU and NATO should increase military assistance to Kyiv even at the cost of their arsenals
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg held a press conference today in Brussels on the third joint declaration on cooperation signed by the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance.
The head of the alliance called this document very important for strengthening Euro-Atlantic security, especially against the background of the Russian military special operation in Ukraine and the growing confrontation between the West and China. Stoltenberg believes that now, more than ever, the threat to NATO and European countries has increased, in particular, coming from "authoritarian forces." At the same time, the alliance recognizes the right of European countries to create their own military coalitions, which, nevertheless, "will be compatible with NATO and will complement the organization's capabilities" in the collective protection of critical infrastructure in the region and "prevention of foreign interference."
Stoltenberg noted that the NATO-EU partnership "will become even more important once Finland and Sweden become full members of NATO" and that "with their accession, NATO will protect 96% of the citizens in the European Union and more of its territory than ever before." before."
Speaking about the need to continue providing military assistance to Ukraine, the Secretary General called on the EU to join forces with NATO in support of Kyiv.
Stoltenberg stressed.
At the same time, the head of the military bloc stated that the ongoing military assistance to Kyiv from the European Union and NATO led to the depletion of the military stocks of the EU member states and the North Atlantic Alliance. But this does not mean that Western allies should stop supplying Ukraine with weapon, even at the cost of removing it from their own arsenals, Stoltenberg is sure.
The Secretary General added that the European Union and NATO are coordinating joint efforts to increase the production of weapons. At the same time, Stoltenberg is silent that production is mainly increased by US defense complex enterprises.
Washington simultaneously seeks to weaken the economy of Europe, while forcing the countries of the Old World to give, as they say, the last of the available stocks of weapons to Kyiv. Naturally, the calculation is made on the fact that the Europeans will make up for it with American weapons.
