Turning an ordinary Kalashnikov assault rifle into a high-precision small arms

The Kalashnikov assault rifle is rightfully considered one of the most reliable models of small arms. weapons in your class. It is no coincidence that it is the most massive in the world.

At the same time, according to weapons expert Konstantin Lazarev, any Kalashnikov assault rifle can be easily turned into a relatively high-precision weapon that fits into the concept of an infantry sniper.

To transform his AK, the expert uses a number of devices.

Naturally, first of all, we are talking about optics. On his machine gun, Lazarev installed a sight of variable magnification from 1 to 8.

According to the expert, this optics allows not only to conduct aimed fire at a fairly long distance, but also to effectively use weapons at dusk due to enlightenment.

Another important attribute within the framework of this transformation is a closed-type muzzle brake-compensator or, in military slang, a “bank”. The latter allows not only to significantly reduce the sound of the shot, but also hides the flash, which is extremely important when working at night.

Also, for the convenience of shooting, the expert installed a bipod on his AK.

Finally, taking into account the fact that we are talking about the work of an infantry sniper, who often does the work of an attack aircraft, Lazarev recommends acquiring a localizer (flame suppressor) that is more compact than a “bank”.

This muzzle device will be most useful when working indoors, as it collects the flash from the shot and throws it forward. Thus, you will not accidentally burn a comrade working nearby.

But the AK-12 is not praised by users. I talked with people, even before the SVO, in units that were actively and shooting a lot, I didn’t like him. They returned to the AK-74, and even to the AKM.

it's so simple ... not to release three rounds a year, and then clean it with a "brick", but let the guys shoot from the heart, then they will understand what flies from and where it goes. right now, 200000 thousand are being shot on TV, called up. a question to the authorities, in the army, why did they (mat) three rounds, fired, and collected shells? are you idiots?

It was business. There were production shortcomings and in Syria he did not show himself very well because of this. Now it seems to have been eliminated and the opinion is changing

a fighter in manure and in the mud, nothing but a couple of full magazines is needed, what the hell "picatini" and "collimators" ... then, he pressed and fired. all. for more accurate targets there is a sniper. there, yes .... everything is expensive and necessary.

Yes, even a conscript. In one article here on VO, I saw a clever idea that a collimator would be very useful just to the "cal of duty generation", which is used to seeing an aiming marker on the screen. And then you take a machine gun, some kind of front sight, a rear sight ... Heh, yes, I almost put it in my pants for joy when, with two open eyes, thanks to the collimator, I saw the target field with such an already familiar aiming marker!

100% agree with you. An optical sight, so it reduces the angle of view, while you are aiming someone else will bypass and shoot. Brake-compensator of closed type, i.e. a muffler, well, yes, maybe, but it does not muffle the sound much, but in general all mufflers muffle the sound and do not muffle it. But the weight increases. In my opinion, a bipod is when there is nothing to do for an arrow, he does all these body kits and chickens don’t peck money. What are they needed for? All the same, a light machine gun will not work, as well as a sniper rifle to look cool and nothing more.
Lazarev is not the one who leads the Art of War program? He takes picturesque poses, after the end of the shooting he turns his head so picturesquely to the right and left. He can, he won't go to war.

. It’s probably possible that way, only a specialized weapon will be better, according to the most important indicators.

With all due respect to the inventors and the designer, there is one very important feature, in military units the situation is not at all the same as at the training grounds for the creators of all sorts of innovations. I understand that my words will cause controversy, but, colleagues, tell me, have many of you been engaged in alignment and adjustment of the usual AK-74? What about optical sights? And how accurately the weapon will shoot when it was removed from it, and then an optical sight was installed. And for the machine, such bells and whistles are not at all necessary, in my opinion. Anyway, only the first bullet will definitely pour.

Everything depends on the wrap. If the plank on the side is riveted normally and does not hang out, and the side crown is good and tightens tightly, then the STP doesn’t float a damn thing. Checked. Holds better than any weaver, though - and harder .. Mounting on a weaver, if the sight is heavy - I would not particularly believe. Here it depends even more strongly on the quality of the bar and especially the rings. Again, the quick-release is more flimsy, and putting on and off every time with a hexagon is also a muddy task.

Especially if this sight is mounted on a Picatinny rail. And she, in turn, on a removable cover. There, at least in kakahu, let the designers be killed, but it is not possible to obtain accuracy according to such a scheme! A few shots and everything went wrong. And then the lid will begin to play even more. It was possible during this time to make an AK of a different scheme for a long time. So that it breaks down and disassembly is already made from below. Then you can make the lid, the Picatitini bar and the barrel into a single one-piece block

The question is, is it necessary? Originating from the SVD and NATO, there were two fundamentally different concepts of mass infantrymen's personal small arms - NATO has a bias in accuracy to the detriment of reliability, we have a calculation for fire suppression of the enemy and reliability. Considering that in WWII 90+% of the shots were for suppression, that is, "towards the target", and also considering that with all the "high-precision" M-16s, the United States switched to LESS accurate M-4s and, in general, with M-16s, all the same, there were and are Marxmans - the concept turned out to be more viable for OURS.
And why the hell should I fence a garden if the accuracy of the gross AKM is approximately equal to the SVD at 400 meters and is often used like that? And you can’t get the accuracy of some kind of Twilight? And that dispersion is structurally incorporated in the gross cartridge in order to catch more in one burst?
    So this is bullshit

so it is ... I took the "prize money" at the shooting range (well, for 30 out of three, they let the "horn" be fired as you like, at arbitrary targets, at least wholesale, at least retail ... although wholesale was more often forbidden, the "tree" would burn sometimes it started on the "Kalashmat", so short, for pleasure. on the trees ... "cutting down" was a "trick", mm150 birch trees were, I didn't succeed. "It went heaps. There was a good" piece of iron ", and then six months later came 5.45 ... rare sucks ...

That is, a person simply painted the machine gun, put on a body kit and equipment, instead of the factory one, and his accuracy increased. laughing I thought there would really be some kind of constructive and technological solutions in the mechanisms themselves. The miracle did not happen, disappointed. Eh...

It looks beautiful, but I remember my PM 1703 7,62 mm forever. It was not necessary to shoot with a silencer nozzle. The optical sight should also be of such a plan that it does not have to be reconciled continuously.
    Overall, a good story.

To transform his AK, the expert uses a number of devices.
Everyone adjusts the weapon to his arm, but for sniping, the RPK would be better, it has regular bipods and its accuracy is initially higher

I once watched an American video about AK. So, shooting with good Finnish cartridges 7.62 gave a result close in accuracy to M16. Without any frills and tinsel.

American enthusiasts have long dabbled with this topic. Moreover, they work with our calibers, both with the seven and with the five, and not like Lazarev with a smooth-bore imitation. The basis of high-precision shooting is the barrel-cartridge complex, and not beautiful body kits. A thick match barrel, this is the base, precision-made ammunition with good gunpowder and optics with a wide angle of view, this is something like a high-precision sniper complex. In the army, all this is successfully replaced by the PKK with PSO
Here's what you can get with the right approach

"" and not beautiful body kits "" A useful thing if you yourself came to this, having learned from basic weapons. In other. In terms of finalizing the basis of the AK, I don’t see any negative in the adjustable butt (on the flight), in the anatomical handle. We are all different in anatomical form.
Need "tuning" take the dovetail. The rest, like a flashlight, can be done with blue electrical tape ...
But the designers also need to work out their bread, and the officials to earn money)))

You can put an optical sight, but for what? According to the experience of the SVO, it rarely comes to the rifleman, since everything is decided by artillery. The machine gun is becoming more and more a weapon of self-defense. Let the sniper with SVD deal with the accuracy of shooting. Instead of wasting money on optics, it's better to think about improving the armor-piercing of the bullet, as the armor is improving and the 5.45 caliber is becoming less and less effective.

Something with us, experts, the sea has become, I stuck a different body kit to the machine and everything is EXPERD! What is expertise? I understand an expert engineer involved in development and testing, a full-time test shooter of a plant or a training ground, but who is this? Who promotes exhibitions and puts information on the Internet? Smiled.

Greetings honorable assembly. Served over forty years ago. Despite the presence of the AK-74 in service with the Soviet Army at that time, AKM was used in our units. The presence of optics (if not a "night light" or a collimator) seems superfluous to me. From my experience, in a short burst, from regular aiming devices, I laid down a runner at a distance of more than 400 meters. Each barrel in the company was carefully shot by platoon commanders, treated kindly and well-groomed. we are many and often. Shooting twice a week, day and night. That's the whole secret! And optics in infantry combat seems to me of little use, especially at distances of 200-300 meters.

Shooters (like gunsmiths), they are not machine operators, the muzzle brake-compensator - the “can” could be mounted an order of magnitude easier and more accurately, in a Morse taper way when the tapered shank of the tool (drill, countersink, milling cutter, in this case it will be a cut barrel) is inserted into a conical hole of the appropriate size (socket) in the spindle or tailstock, for example, a lathe, in this case it will be a compensator brake. The Morse taper method is designed for fast tool change with high centering accuracy and reliable fastening. .
