Serbian President Vučić: The West uses double standards in the issue of Ukraine and Kosovo
NATO countries use a policy of double standards in relation to Ukraine and Serbia. This was stated by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, speaking at the UN General Assembly.
According to the Serbian President, on the issue of the territorial integrity of the two states, the West demonstrates an impressive difference in approaches. NATO countries demand that Belgrade recognize the independence of Kosovo, but at the same time they are ready to defend the territorial integrity of Ukraine with all their might within the borders of not even February 2022, but February 2014.
Vucic recalled that as a result of the events in Kosovo, the territorial integrity of Serbia was violated. But Belgrade has not been at war with any other sovereign country. The President of Serbia openly asked the question, what is the difference between the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and Serbia?
Vučić also stated that the state sovereignty of Serbia was violated without the consent of the UN by countries from the NATO bloc that attacked it in 1999. No one has taken any responsibility for these actions. Then the NATO countries recognized the independence of Kosovo, thereby violating the territorial integrity of the Serbian state.
How much Kosovo means to Serbia has been said and written on many occasions. But now, against the backdrop of the Ukrainian events, the Kosovo problem is acquiring a new relevance and a new meaning. The situation with Kosovo demonstrates the total hypocrisy of the political course of the West. And the events in Ukraine showed this very well.
Another question is that Vučić's words will not be properly received by any politician in the West. The West is deeply indifferent to criticism from states that are listed by it as "outcasts" or "inferior" or "enemies". To Serbia, despite the ostentatious friendliness of the European Union, this is the attitude. And it will not change, which Vucic and other Serbian politicians should understand.
As for the observance of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of any states of the world, this has never been and will not be in the West's political and value-ideological priority. Not so long ago, the West successfully owned the Asian and African colonies, imposing its own rules there and cracking down on disgruntled local supporters of independence. More recently, the West has committed dozens of acts of aggression against sovereign states - Yugoslavia, Sudan, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya.
Currently, the West prefers to remain silent while Turkish troops operate in Syrian and Iraqi territories without the permission of Syria and Iraq. At the same time, the West is ready to defend Ukraine and weapons, and mercenaries, and all talk about the independence of Scotland, Catalonia, the Basque Country, Corsica and other problem areas of Western countries are severely suppressed.
The hypocritical policy of the West is well known, so Vučić should hardly be surprised by the ongoing events from the UN rostrum. The fact that the Serbian President was openly indignant at double standards is worthy of respect. Of course, it is hardly worth counting on the fact that Serbia, which is in the ring of NATO countries, will be able to change something in any radical way. Vucic has to maneuver, trying to save and preserve his small state, cut off from the sea.
