Polish expert: Even after another enlargement, NATO will not be able to influence Russia's position on Ukraine
Further expansion of the North Atlantic Alliance to the east in the form of the admission of Sweden and Finland into it will not change Moscow's goals in Ukraine, General Bohuslav Samol, director of the Institute of Military Strategy of Poland, believes.
According to the general, Russia continues to adhere to the political goals set at the beginning of the military operation, as evidenced by active hostilities in the east and south of Ukraine.
Samol believes that Moscow intends to annex the Donbass and the southern regions of Ukraine to Russia in the future. He also expressed doubts that hostilities could end before autumn.
According to the Polish expert, the main goal of the Kyiv authorities at the moment is the desire to disrupt the holding of a referendum on joining Russia in Kherson and regain control at least over the territories located to the west of the Dnieper. Samol considers these goals to be correct, but he is not sure that Kyiv will have the strength to achieve them.
As for the potential clash between NATO and Russia, the Polish general noted that in accordance with Article 5 of the NATO Charter, the organization will not take any military action against Russia, unless, of course, it attacks one of the countries of the alliance. Accordingly, Samol added, NATO cannot change Moscow's position and force it to stop the military operation.
- said the Polish general.
At the same time, the Polish general did not say anything about whether the constant pumping of Ukraine was NATO intervention weapons, the transfer of intelligence data, the participation in the conflict of NATO military instructors.
