Having retreated from Pesok, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are unsuccessfully trying to gain a foothold in spontaneous positions in forest plantations
Russian troops continue the operation to liberate the territories of Donbass from the occupying forces of the Kyiv regime. The greatest success in the past few days has been achieved in the Pesok region, where this settlement itself was taken under control, after which a successful advance several kilometers to the west was carried out.
Ukrainian troops tried to cling to the village of Nevelskoye, which is about 7 km from the settlement of Pesky, but the problem for them is that in this area there are actually no fortifications comparable to those that were in Pesky themselves.
After artillery preparation, the DPR troops reached the Karlovsky reservoir. This is a fairly large reservoir on a regional scale. The importance of this reservoir cannot be overestimated. Firstly, it makes it possible to provide Donetsk and satellite cities with drinking water, and secondly, it allows to ensure the operation of large coal mines.
In the area of the main “mirror” of this reservoir is the village of Karlovka, for which heavy battles between the then DPR militia and Ukrainian troops were fought back in 2014-15. Breaking through the enemy defenses in this area will provide a tactical advantage in three directions at once. This is the northern one - to the rear of the Avdiivka grouping of the enemy, the southern one - to the rear of the Krasnogorovskaya grouping of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the third direction - straight to the West, towards the Kurakhovo-Pokrovsk road.
Ukrainian troops in the area from Sand to Nevelskoye and further from Nevelskoye to Netaylovo and Krasnohorivka are actually in open areas. Only individual forest plantations can serve as shelters for disparate groups. However, it is precisely on them that both artillery and combat aviation, grinding both previously prepared trenches and spontaneous positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The arrangement of these spontaneous positions to the west of the village of Peski is extremely problematic for the Armed Forces of Ukraine in an area at least 12 km wide. To gain a foothold on them is even more problematic for the enemy.
