Working in pairs: Tanks cover the TOS-1A Solntsepek during strikes against the enemy in the Donbass
The TOS-1A Solntsepek heavy flamethrower system is a modification of the TOS-1 Pinocchio, based on the chassis tank T-72, with improved combat characteristics. The installation is designed to destroy all types of fortifications, manpower and equipment of the enemy with thermobaric unguided rockets on an area of up to 40 square meters. The main disadvantage of this truly terrible weapons, which has no analogues in the world - this is a small firing range of up to six kilometers.
In other words, the "Solntsepek" is forced to get as close as possible to the target being hit in order to fire volleys of 24 unguided rockets. At this moment, the combat vehicle becomes within reach even for the enemy's melee weapons. And although, unlike the TOS-1 Pinocchio, the modified TOS-1A Solntsepek installation is equipped with a heavy machine gun or an automatic cannon, these means of protection are not enough in the event of a retaliatory attack.
In addition, taking into account the destructive power of heavy flamethrower systems, the enemy, if they are detected, will use all possible means to destroy the formidable installation.
In the Donbass, the well-known Russian ingenuity, which our soldiers are famous for, came in handy in this regard. During the special operation in Ukraine, especially at this stage, when success primarily depends on the fire destruction of the enemy, in which TOS has few equals, a simple and successful solution was found. Tank crews took up the security of vulnerable flamethrower systems. The firing range of high-explosive fragmentation ammunition for tanks already reaches 10 km.
Combat vehicles come out in pairs to a given square, and while TOS is ironing the indicated enemy targets, tankers are closely monitoring the perimeter. In the event of a counterattack, the tank neutralizes the enemy's forces and is probably even able to cover a more vulnerable "comrade" with its armor. After the end of shooting, "Solntsepek", "Pinocchio" or "Tosochka" go to reload, and the tankers perform the next task. Most likely offensive. - with cleaning up enemy positions and ensuring the safe approach of our infantry. After all, where TOC hit, there is unlikely to be serious resistance.
