Former adviser to the head of the Pentagon: Aid to Ukraine can leave the United States without ammunition against the backdrop of a possible conflict with China
47
The United States could run out of munitions in a potential conflict with China by shipping too much to Ukraine. This was stated by the former adviser to the US Secretary of Defense in the administration of Donald Trump Douglas McGregor.
The former colonel expressed fears that the United States, sending large amounts of ammunition to Ukraine in an effort to "contain Russia", may themselves be left without the required number of shells and missiles against the backdrop of a potential conflict with China in the Taiwan Strait. In his opinion, the rate of expenditure of missiles and shells in Ukraine is too high and could threaten the US arsenals. In the event of a collision, this will greatly limit the capabilities of the American fleet.
Based on the rate of consumption of ammunition and high-precision systems weapons of all types in Ukraine, the current US stockpile of precision-guided missiles and munitions will be quickly depleted
- he said.
But NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who has not been seen or heard for a very long time, believes that the West needs to continue to support Ukraine, despite the consequences. According to him, the price of refusing to help Ukraine "will be too high." At the same time, he could not give a forecast on the timing of the end of the conflict in Ukraine.
It is impossible to predict how long the war in Ukraine will continue and what the long-term consequences will be. It is important to continue to support Ukraine, no matter how much it takes. Of course, all the military, economic and humanitarian support we provide to Ukraine comes at a high cost, but the cost of not supporting Ukraine would be much greater.
- said the representative of NATO.
