Minister of Defense of Ukraine: We need to do something with airfields to receive F-16 fighters

72

The Ukrainian defense minister continues to talk about what kind of military equipment Ukraine needs "to defeat Russia." According to Alexei Reznikov, the issue "rests on the combat Aviation NATO pattern. At the same time, the head of the Ministry of Defense made it clear that in this regard there are many problems that the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine needs to solve in the near future.

Minister of Defense of Ukraine:

We all dream about F-16 fighters, I would dream too. We have every chance for our pilots to start mastering the modern generation of aircraft.

At the same time, Reznikov did not specify how the F-16 fit in with the concept of "modern generation." The 5th generation of combat aviation includes only a few modifications of aircraft in the world. These are American F-22s and F-35s, Chinese J-20s and Russian Su-57s.

Reznikov:

There is a certain nuance. We'll have to do something with our airfields. After that, I think we will be able to receive aircraft of this class.

At the same time, Reznikov did not specify what exactly needs to be "done with the airfields." If we talk about creating the appropriate infrastructure for the maintenance, refueling, repair, and operation of weapons suitable for the F-16, then such work may take not even months, but years. If we talk about shelters at Ukrainian airfields for the F-16, then the appearance of new infrastructure facilities at the existing airfields of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will definitely not go unnoticed by Russian intelligence, including military space.

At the same time, the United States itself and other countries where F-16s are operated have not yet confirmed information about their readiness to supply these fighters for the needs of Ukraine. However, earlier there was information that in NATO countries Ukrainian pilots would be trained to pilot not only the F-16, but also the F-15.

.Minister of Defense of Ukraine: We need to do something with airfields to receive F-16 fighters

Bomb? Most likely, the pilots on Western planes will be NATO.

According to American insiders, the training of Ukrainian pilots will most likely be carried out at two American bases - a base in Columbus (Mississippi), and one of the bases in Texas. However, the Yankees will train Ukrainian pilots to fly the F-15 and F-16, and, in general, whether the Ze-team will receive Western military aircraft depends on the September decision of the US Congress. This is where the new Defense Law for 2023 will be adopted.

The American media, commenting on the rumors about the transfer of the Warthog to the Yellow-Blakyt Air Force, write that Biden's previous fears have been dispelled, and the Yankees are now going for what was unthinkable yesterday. Take at least MLRS HIMARS. In the first month of fighting on the Ukrainian battlefield, the White House said no to beggars from Kyiv, but now it is increasing the supply of this system.

The fact that the Yankees are preparing to send the Ze-team another batch of weapons, including new ones, was boasted by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Reznikov, who wrote on social networks about his conversation with the head of the US Pentagon, Lloyd Austin. Like, "his American counterpart has some very good news, but the details will come a bit later."

It is also known that in the current version of the State Defense Act for 2023, the House of Representatives agreed to the proposal of the Air Force to retire twenty-one A-10 attack aircraft in the next fiscal year. Moreover, by an amazing coincidence, this was announced on the very day that Reznikov tweeted about the surprise from Austin.

To destroy the bands, this is a very difficult task (here it is desirable to work with aircraft from front-line bombers and higher, so that it would not be cost-effective to restore it), everything else is called disable, and this is for some time. I don’t remember exactly, but to restore the runway after the defeat of the FAB 500, according to wartime standards, something from 4 to 5 hours is allotted, for subsequent operation by front-line aviation.

          BetAB-500.
.Concrete-piercing aerial bombs (BetAB) are designed to effectively destroy reinforced concrete pavements and airfield runways. Structurally, they are represented by two main types of bombs: free fall and with jet boosters. Concrete-piercing free-fall bombs are designed for bombing from high altitudes and are structurally very close to standard thick-walled high-explosive bombs. Concrete-piercing bombs with a parachute and a jet booster are used for bombing from any heights (including low ones). Due to the parachute, the angle of incidence of the bomb increases to 60 degrees, after which the parachute fires back and the jet booster is launched.

Most often, the mass of concrete-piercing bombs is 500-1000 kg, while bombs of a larger caliber can also be encountered. This type of weapon is designed to destroy objects with solid concrete or reinforced concrete protection or heavily armored objects. For example, fortifications (such as bunkers), bunkers, coastal batteries, runways or large warships.

            1. And where are they and where are they?
            2. It won’t hit from 7-10 km, but they are waiting below. Air defense is not suppressed + MANPADS
            3. BetAB-500 ShP is an upgraded version of the BetAB-500 free-fall concrete bomb. It is equipped with a jet engine with 2,2 kg of solid propellant and a drag parachute. This allows, unlike its predecessor, to drop it from low altitudes (up to 170 meters) and hit targets more accurately.

I am not an expert in this matter. But no matter how you gouge the runway, you can quickly patch up everything. Maximum three days. And here are the fuel tanks, tankers, control room, hangars. I think it takes a lot longer to recover.

Neither we nor Ukraine have protected hangars for la (but there are in Syria: they have long realized the trouble. And Turkey has it.)
Tankers, airfield radar, RSP, etc. All this can be mobile and disguised.

For Ruslan, I will assume no lower than 1, but it is necessary.
And taking into account the fact that up to 80% of the estimate is stolen on asphalt, simple planes will not be accepted. AN-2, perhaps.
I remember laughing for a long time when, 10 years ago, the Finns were called to take asphalt samples in the Leningrad region and St. Petersburg.
The result was: no asphalt was found.

... what kind of military equipment does Ukraine need "to defeat Russia." According to Alexei Reznikov, the issue "rests on NATO-style combat aviation"...

Instead of the holy Javelins, the magical Bayraktars and the mighty Himars, who did not justify the hopes, a new fetish is planned in Ukraine, for which dill-patriots can ̶d̶r̶o̶... masturbate crouching to bloody calluses: mighty, magical and saints in one bottle of F-16. The name is only indigestible - it would be necessary to compose a more euphonious chasing.
Meanwhile, the range of Western prodigies capable of turning evil into victory is rapidly depleting - after the F-16, only Abrams, fifth-generation aircraft, strategic bombers, aircraft carriers and nuclear weapons will remain ...

We'll have to do something with our airfields.

    For example, calibrate.

An aircraft mechanic has been studying on the F-16 for 5 years. Of course, you can train in 30 hours, but it will still be that mechanic

Rebuilding the airfield infrastructure to the NATO standard is one thing, but who will service the equipment? NATO specialists will not crawl under the calibers, they don’t, NATO pilots will also fly on junk in the zone of our air defense and fighter aircraft. One-way flight, but do they need it? Aircraft need original spare parts and a bunch of other crap and technical fluids. And to teach the locals is from the realm of fantasy. He repaired People all his life "Zhiguli", and then he was fitted with a "gelding" of the 80s ....

The F-16's problem is empty weight. In the fight for a culture of weight, the developers sacrificed everything they could. First of all, choosing a single-engine scheme, they abandoned the mechanical control wiring.
But in relation to the topic of this discussion.
Why such requirements for airfields? Yes, everything is simple, the F-16 is just a vacuum cleaner. Not only is the air intake extremely simplified (a consequence of the very struggle for a culture of weight), it is also located very “successfully”. You don't need much for compressor blades.
In addition, I don’t know if they fixed it or not yet, but the first F-16 series had this problem, it was too much engine thrust while taxiing, I had to use the brakes. Yes, and the engine itself blew everything that the specialist did not capture. a vacuum cleaner.
Here are the requirements, perfectly clean concrete without the slightest hint of cracking.

I suspect that there are very serious problems with the quality of the coating (the ventral air intake of the F-16 is especially sensitive to this) and the load on various elements of the chassis. As far as I know, the landing gear of former USSR aircraft is much less sensitive to runway surface irregularities. If so, a huge amount of work.
