Ukraine resumes training of combat dolphins - in their own and Russian interests

In Sevastopol, the special program of training dolphins for combat purposes is being revived: animals, like in the USSR, will be taught to fight in diver diverts, search for mines, swim with weapons on the head and undermine the ships. On the Black Sea coast, similar programs existed since 1973, but with the transition of Sevastopol to Ukraine, they were curtailed and used by dolphins for therapeutic purposes, reports NEWSru.ua. Now they decided to revive the training of combat animals - this is beneficial for Ukraine and Russia, experts say.

"Now in the state aquarium of Ukraine in Sevastopol are preparing ten bottlenose dolphins to fulfill the military’s special tasks fleet Of Ukraine, regularly in the waters of Sevastopol, the Ukrainian military conducts training of animals to search for objects at the bottom of the sea, "RIA leads"News"the words of its source in the power structures of Sevastopol.

In the 1990-s, as explained by the source, intended for the combat training of animals used for peaceful purposes - a special therapy was developed for the treatment of children with disabilities. This made it possible to earn money for the maintenance of other animals, and it was reported that the preparation of combat dolphins was on the verge of extinction. "By and large, the program for training animals for military purposes has never stopped, but it has not been advertised, either," said an agency source.

In the world there are only two training centers for combat dolphins: in Sevastopol and in San Diego (USA). The military can use these animals for a variety of purposes: for example, dolphins can attack ships with explosives attached to their heads. They can also attack divers-saboteurs - for this, the animal’s head is armed with a pistol or knife. Dolphins are also effective in search operations - with their help, the military can explore the bottom and detect mines.

Sevastopol specialists, who started training combat animals only this year, have already managed to achieve some success. “The tasks were carried out, our dolphins found the object and touched it with a device mounted on the head, after which a buoy was shot to the surface,” the source told RIA Novosti. Now animals are trained to protect ships from saboteurs.

Ukrainian dolphins will guard and Russian ships

Not only the Naval Forces of Ukraine, but also the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation are located on the coast of Sevastopol, therefore the use of dolphins in this area is beneficial for Russia, the chairman of the public council at the Russian Defense Ministry, chief editor of the National Defense magazine Igor Korotchenko is convinced.

"The Ukrainian experience in training maritime animals deserves unconditional attention. Their use in the waters of the Sevastopol bays where the ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet and the Naval Forces of Ukraine are based is in the interests of the fleets of both countries and is an important factor in joint anti-sabotage defense," the expert explained.

Information about whether there are Russian programs for the use of dolphins for military purposes has not been disclosed. Korochenko is sure that such dolphins do not train in Russia, but in the future they can take these programs into service and enter their funding into the state armaments program until 2020.

In the USSR, dolphin training programs appeared in the 1973 year, and in the US Army these animals have been serving the last 50 years. The bottlenose dolphins were used during a military operation in Iraq: animals searched for mines in the water spaces of the port of Umm Qasr. However, in the Soviet Union not only dolphins were trained for military purposes, but also seals, sea lions and killer whales.

In vain you are so. Sea animals, in their native environment, discover targets much earlier than humans, attack without fear and doubt, and destroying them is much more difficult than humans. To protect water areas is a very effective solution.

All right. In addition, these mammals do not always need any special means to fulfill the PDSS functions - to tear off an air hose with a mouthpiece, or to poke a muzzle in the sternum (it hurts), and attach a completely incomprehensible tail (which is usually lethal). The only question is that much has changed since the collapse of the USSR, in particular the number of amateur divers aka Divers has increased significantly. So civil lovers of descents and ascents should be careful in this area.

The dolphin has a motivation to attack - a game, without a weapon they are not particularly effective, and for an experienced underwater hunter who took catfish for one hundred kilograms an unarmed dolphin will not be a problem, not to mention saboteurs.

"They can also attack scuba divers, saboteurs - for this, the head of the animals is armed with a pistol or a knife." Stunned ... screw the horns ...

In Soviet times, a pair of dolphins reliably covered the entrance to the Sevastopol Bay. A special device, shooting with a harpoon, was fastened on the dolphin’s head, and the task of the animal was to swim and poke the swimmer’s nose - then it’s a matter of technique: closing the contact, electric fuse, expelling charge ... and tryndets adversary.

This topic began to develop actively after the destruction of the battleship Novorossiysk in the water area of the bay with the mass death of sailors.

And the point is that Ukraine has nothing more to do, only train dolphins with cutters on their heads.

The formations of the ships and the Navy Premier League of the Black Sea Fleet in the role of adversaries went from the coast of Turkey, and they were met, released from small boats, battle bottlenose dolphins with special ammunition on their backs. The result - the invasion fleet is completely destroyed, far from their native shores. Only such a jointly implemented program will allow cooling the hot Angosak and Ottoman heads. So what to do? Our Fleets at the World Cup DO NOT HAVE THE NEEDED POWER ....

      Nechai,
I completely agree with you! Of course, fighting animals can be used not only for protection, just the article was about countering saboteurs, and this topic is now quite relevant (in my opinion). My friend, for the season, works in Crimea as a diving instructor well and of course he does not hesitate to be a "leftist" in the form of souvenirs raised from the bottom, this spring he raised an 800-kilogram anchor directly from under the "Sagaidachny" (No one noticed anything!) ... I think that the protection of the Russian Black Sea Fleet warships is not much better organized ...

Poor Sevastopol residents who love the city beach in the Artillery Bay and the boys who dive into all the holes between the moorings from the Konstantinovsky ravelin to the Black River. You can become an object of attack by dolphins.
Another expensive project-project involving a large number of personnel to the maximum, the department of fighting swimmers dolphins.
Can put modern acoustics in the bay, scanners. A PDS boat will jump to a dangerous point, throw a grenade overboard and a "saboteur" will float up with flippers. For special operations, let them have fun. Massiveness will not work. Unite in a flock. Instinct will work. And they will rush to freedom for a fresh, steamy Kerch hamsa. from freshly thawed sardines.

Such things were done, which is still not believed! The kids were then treated, only behind the scenes, the object was categorized. These trainings are based on the innate reflex of dolphins to drive away a stranger or push away an unfamiliar object. So, there is nothing supernatural in this entire training program for "military" dolphins. Most often train bottlenose dolphins (they are bottlenose dolphins). But not because they have exceptional abilities among their fellows, but because they are quite widespread and numerous (and therefore most often found) species ...
With all the advantages that dolphins (and other marine animals) have over people (in the water), they are by no means invulnerable, and the means and methods of countering them have been developed long ago. In addition, dolphins will only work with people who literally know "by sight." The rest will be taken for outsiders with all the consequences that follow from this fact ...
However, I am interested in the development of a situation in which such a dolphin "veteran" will ever break free (which in itself is not entirely excluded) ... What will he teach his free fellows? ..

PS However, in the seas and oceans there is a creature that has much more solid fighting qualities than an ordinary dolphin. This is Orcinus Orca or killer whale (aka killer whale). In essence, this is the largest dolphin. The social organization of the pack is at a very high level, as is the intellect. We teach excellently. Easily gets used to people (to "his" people, those whom he knows "by sight"). Moving, aggressive, smart ...
In a word, a candidate for military service is the most suitable ... But before you "call" her into military service, you should think about what might happen after her "demobilization" or "desertion"? .. And this question, in its essence, is quite not idle ...
