In 2018, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced plans to deploy a formation on the peninsula, but the final decision was made only in 2021, the organizational and staffing structure was worked out in accordance with the tasks assigned to the division (anti-landing, anti-sabotage, air defense).
