American edition: the United States is considering the option of transferring helicopters intended for the Afghan army to Ukraine
Ukraine may receive helicopters intended for the Afghan army. According to the Defense Blog portal, a batch of rotorcraft may enter US military assistance.
According to the publication, which in turn refers to CNN, the Biden administration is considering the option of supplying Ukraine with Mi-17V5 and Mi-8MTV helicopters purchased by the United States for the Afghan army, but not delivered to Afghanistan due to recent events in this country. According to the portal, the Pentagon insists on sending.
Thus, already this spring, Ukraine may receive one or two helicopters out of six planned for transfer. In total, five Mi-17V5 and one Mi-8MTV can be included in military assistance.
Whether Kiev will receive helicopters or not is still unknown, since there have been no official statements on this topic. It is known for certain that the White House is considering sending military advisers and some military equipment to Ukraine, but there is no mention of helicopters there. There is information that the Pentagon is not opposed to sending to Ukraine some of the equipment that was planned to be sent to Afghanistan, but again without specifics.
If you pay attention to the latest statements of Ukrainian politicians, then again, there is no mention of the likely delivery of helicopters. The last time they were mentioned in Kiev was a few months ago in the context of "it would be nice if we could get what was supplied to the Afghan army."
Meanwhile, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov said that Kiev needs as much as possible weapons from partners. According to him, the Ukrainian authorities handed over to the United States a list of weapons that they would like to receive. Danilov refused to voice this list.
