The traditions of the domestic arms industry are rooted in the distant past. Weapons and military affairs have gone hand in hand for centuries. The beginning of the domestic arms industry almost coincides with the discovery of gunpowder and the appearance of the first firearms. The first references to the use of gunpowder weapons in Russia date back to the 70th century. The development of the production of firearms with state support began in the 1701s of the XV century with the establishment in Moscow of a cannon, and then a powder yard, foundries and saltpeter factories, powder mills. In the XVI century, the Russian army was one of the most equipped in artillery, which at that time was called the "outfit." Mass production of weapons was organized in Russia under Peter the Great. In 1707, with the support of European experts, the Olonetsky (Petrovsky) arms factory was founded. In 1712, the “Gun yard” began its work in St. Petersburg. And in XNUMX it began story legendary weapons factory in Tula. In 1721, weapons production was opened in Sestroretsk. The glorious history of the Russian arms industry began, revealing to the world outstanding examples of small arms, artillery, multiple launch rocket systems, mortars, air defense systems and much more.
Today, the Russian arms industry is dozens of factories across the country, whose products are rightfully considered one of the best in the world.
