Day of the formation of the Radio-technical troops of the Russian Aerospace Forces
History The radio engineering troops of the Russian Aerospace Forces have their roots in the post-war period of Soviet history. On December 15, 1951, the USSR Council of Ministers instructed the War Ministry to create an effective and unified radar system that would warn of the detection of air targets. This is how the USSR Radio Technical Air Defense Forces appeared, which were military units that were part of the air defense divisions and corps. Typically, each air defense division had a radio engineering regiment in its composition.
1992 to 1997 radio-technical troops were part of the Air Defense Forces of the RF Armed Forces, and from 1997 to 2015. - in the Air Force as the Air Force Radio Engineering Troops. Since 2015, the troops have been called the Radio Engineering Troops of the Russian Aerospace Forces. The main task of the troops is still control over the situation in the airspace and the detection of air and surface targets using special radar equipment.
Every year, the technical potential of the RF Aerospace Force's Radio Engineering Forces is improving: new radar equipment is being put into service, including those that have no analogues in other countries of the world. It is no coincidence that Russia occupies a leading position in the development of radar systems on a global scale.
Every day, thousands of military and civilian specialists of the RF Aerospace Forces Radio Engineering Forces take over on duty, performing airspace monitoring tasks. It is they, the warriors of the RTV VKS, who are the first to detect air targets and carry out their escort in order to transmit the coordinates to anti-aircraft missile units and fighter units at any time. aviation... That is, the radio-technical troops are the “eyes and ears” of the Russian armed forces, the importance and complexity of the tasks they perform are beyond doubt.
Officers and soldiers who have served or have served in the radio-technical troops can and should be proud of the fact that they have made a huge contribution to the protection of the country's airspace, its state borders, and to the safety of aviation in the Russian sky. By the way, many servicemen of the radio-technical troops performed and are fulfilling their military duty outside the Russian Federation, anywhere in the world, where their command would send them. RTV soldiers served in Cuba and Afghanistan, Vietnam and Syria, Angola and Egypt. Everywhere they performed the tasks assigned to them with honor and high professionalism.
Voennoye Obozreniye congratulates the current and former military personnel of the RF Aerospace Forces Radio Engineering Troops, the USSR Air Defense Radio Engineering Troops, the civilian personnel of the troops and their families on their professional holiday. We wish you happiness, health and a peaceful sky.
