Day of the formation of the Radio-technical troops of the Russian Aerospace Forces

16

History The radio engineering troops of the Russian Aerospace Forces have their roots in the post-war period of Soviet history. On December 15, 1951, the USSR Council of Ministers instructed the War Ministry to create an effective and unified radar system that would warn of the detection of air targets. This is how the USSR Radio Technical Air Defense Forces appeared, which were military units that were part of the air defense divisions and corps. Typically, each air defense division had a radio engineering regiment in its composition.

1992 to 1997 radio-technical troops were part of the Air Defense Forces of the RF Armed Forces, and from 1997 to 2015. - in the Air Force as the Air Force Radio Engineering Troops. Since 2015, the troops have been called the Radio Engineering Troops of the Russian Aerospace Forces. The main task of the troops is still control over the situation in the airspace and the detection of air and surface targets using special radar equipment.

Every year, the technical potential of the RF Aerospace Force's Radio Engineering Forces is improving: new radar equipment is being put into service, including those that have no analogues in other countries of the world. It is no coincidence that Russia occupies a leading position in the development of radar systems on a global scale.

Every day, thousands of military and civilian specialists of the RF Aerospace Forces Radio Engineering Forces take over on duty, performing airspace monitoring tasks. It is they, the warriors of the RTV VKS, who are the first to detect air targets and carry out their escort in order to transmit the coordinates to anti-aircraft missile units and fighter units at any time. aviation... That is, the radio-technical troops are the “eyes and ears” of the Russian armed forces, the importance and complexity of the tasks they perform are beyond doubt.

Officers and soldiers who have served or have served in the radio-technical troops can and should be proud of the fact that they have made a huge contribution to the protection of the country's airspace, its state borders, and to the safety of aviation in the Russian sky. By the way, many servicemen of the radio-technical troops performed and are fulfilling their military duty outside the Russian Federation, anywhere in the world, where their command would send them. RTV soldiers served in Cuba and Afghanistan, Vietnam and Syria, Angola and Egypt. Everywhere they performed the tasks assigned to them with honor and high professionalism.

Voennoye Obozreniye congratulates the current and former military personnel of the RF Aerospace Forces Radio Engineering Troops, the USSR Air Defense Radio Engineering Troops, the civilian personnel of the troops and their families on their professional holiday. We wish you happiness, health and a peaceful sky.

The radio engineering troops of the Russian Aerospace Forces have their roots in the post-war period of Soviet history. December 15, 1951 ......

I think the information here is not entirely accurate. The first radar was put into service in 1939.
RUS-1 (aircraft radio detector - the first), "Rhubarb" - the first Soviet serial radar. One of the very first air defense units (VNOS) was formed back in the 30s on the territory of the Gomel region, which is still on duty in the North. The Caucasus. All those involved with the holiday. drinks

If the Germans entered Leningrad, they would also enter Moscow. And if they entered Moscow, they would still be in Paris today. François Mitterrand, President of France 1981-1995 And if they were today - NOT ONLY IN PARIS ...
        - and Leningrad - saved the Baltic Fleet. Yes, the Nazis locked him in the Kronstadt. But the fleet was ALIVE!
        - And the Baltic Fleet is more than a THOUSAND guns with a caliber of more than 100mm ...
And the fascist understood perfectly well - that until he "finished" with the fleet - about any "capture of Leningrad" - THERE CANNOT BE SPEECH: as soon as the fascists approached the city 10-15 kilometers away, they were simply CARRIED OUT into SHEDS !!! - literally "to shreds" ... After all, naval artillerymen - they do not make marches, do not dig shelters, do not dig in their guns, do not walk in formation ... - They ALL LIFE - either shoot, or prepare to shoot. And that's why they know how to do it WELL. Fast and ACCURATE.
        - And how could a fascist "get rid of" the Baltic Fleet - but only with aviation!
        - And Mr. Goering decided to arrange for the Baltic Fleet - "Pearl Harbor" ... Just not the "second", but the FIRST, because the Fascist raids on the Baltic Fleet were made 4 months before the "Pearl Harbor", so gloriously promoted by Hollywood. ..
-Killing SUDDEN "Star" raid - in three columns of 70-100 vehicles in each, each column - from its direction and at its height, going in clear ranks of 8 vehicles in each line. And the rear rows of cars - adjust the moment of dropping their bombs as a result of the bombing of the front ones. And not 200 light Japanese bombers (what else could take off from the then aircraft carriers!) - but more than 250 "full-weight" field aviation bombers (U-88 and Henchkel-111). Everything was planned and executed with German punctuality - and the Baltic Fleet simply had no chance!
        - but ... but ... what STOPPED ?! - after all, THE COUNTRY IS WORTH!
But - the fascists DIDN'T KNOW that in the dense forest near Oraniembaum - in the spacious attic of the forester's house - under the blackened from the time board roof - from July 1941 the antenna of one of the "long-range" radars in the world, "Redut-3", was rotating, created in 1940 at the "Pope Ioffe" institute. And this Redoubt-3 - "looked through" the air situation within a radius of ... 220 (two hundred and twenty !!!) kilometers! But not only did he "scan" it - and also the operator on this radar - was an unknown 18-year-old operator named Gilferstein.
        - Why is it important that he is?
And the thing is that the frequency / length of the electromagnetic wave at which the radar worked was minimal, which still made it possible to reliably detect the aircraft - that is, on the order of the length of its fuselage - of the order of meters. After all, the shorter the wave - the more technically difficult in those days - it was to make a radar.
"Indicators of a circular view" - then they had not yet been invented - and therefore in front of the operator synchronously with the "attic" antenna - the arrow rotated - the current "azimuth" to the target. And when a target appeared in the air, on the screen of a REGULAR (today) electron-beam oscillograph, a "tooth" appeared - a mark from the detected target. And the distance "to the tooth - from the beginning of the horizontal sweep of the oscilloscope beam" - was proportional to the distance to the "target". The operator (first number) reported to the second number of the calculation - the azimuth and distance to the target. The second number - moved on the map of the area - the "counters" of the targets, and the third number of the crew - looked at the map with the counters and reported to the headquarters "via a direct wire" - the general air situation.
Around the forester's house stood the "NKVD cordon" (which did not know what they were guarding!), And around the NKVD cordon, there was an army cordon (which also did not know what they were guarding) ... And at the Leningrad defense headquarters, they also did not know who "via a direct wire" reports to them the "air situation". They thought that Beria had a huge network of airspace observation posts there ... Well, let's go back from "ensuring secrecy" to "the wavelength and operator Gilferstein."
        - And the problem with detecting aircraft in a dense group was PRINCIPAL! ...
        - The fact is that when the planes are in a Dense GROUP, then a sufficiently long electromagnetic wave of the locator - being reflected from each plane - IS SUPERIOR in the receiving antenna of the locator - on top of each other - and the individual reflected rays of this wave INTERFERE (!) With each other. As a result, instead of one "narrow target tooth" - on the screen of the radar oscilloscope - there appeared ONE "wide tooth", inside which an "interference porridge" was continuously running, consisting of many teeth of DIFFERENT and continuously VARIABLE width. And it was completely unclear - how many planes were flying - one or 10! But the bombers - they were in those days - flew precisely "in a dense group"!
        - and so - comrade Gilferstein - INITIATIVELY (!) developed a METHOD, how to determine the number of aircraft in a dense group using this very "running CASH", consisting of different teeth !!!
        - and since it was he who FIRST (from the calculation) observed how three columns were formed for the "star-struck" raid on the Baltic Fleet - and this was a very difficult operation - at the maximum range from several field airfields - dozens of aircraft were simultaneously lifted, flew to points collection, where they lined up in the "core" of the columns. These "cores of columns" moved to closer airfields and stood over the airfields "in a circle." Dozens of planes took off from these airfields and joined the "column cores" more than once.
And at the headquarters, and the second and third numbers of calculations (this chain worked rather slowly) - everyone thought that all these planes were preparing to make another raid on Leningrad. And Gilferstein - THE FIRST realized that this was a raid on Kronstadt - on the Baltic Fleet. And the time remained - less than 10 minutes. And Gilferstein, risking his life (the NKVD are very serious guys) - violating all secrecy instructions - picks up the phone from the third number, which is negotiating with the fleet headquarters in "encrypted form" - and in OPEN TEXT informs the headquarters of what is happening, adding strong Russians the words. The headquarters answers shortly - UNDERSTOOD !!! - And in two or three minutes air raid sirens are floating over the Gulf of Finland. Meanwhile, the Nazi planes are already entering the "dead zone" above the radar. They only have a few minutes to reach their goal. Gilferstein "abandons" his post, jumps out of his "forester's house" - and counts the planes passing overhead - AND IS HE NOT MISTAKED? !!
        - everything is correct - a huge column (ONE OF THREE) - 8 planes in a row ...
And they even promised to reward Gilferstern. The Commander of the Baltic Fleet, Admiral Tributs, personally came to Redoubt-3 and spent a long time looking for "airplanes with wings" on the oscilloscope screen. And Gilferstern was even going to be awarded. The admiral promised - personally! ... But somehow "it did not work out" ...
        .
And since there was no "second Pearl Harbor" yet, and as a result of three-day raids of fascist bombers - several large pennants of the fleet were lost - this "air battle" - quickly regarded by the command - as our next defeat. And only after the "second" - the American Pearl Harbor - it became clear that during the air attack of the fascists on Krondshdadt, we had a FULL VICTORY, since any victory would inevitably lead to losses ... And even quite large ships. The main thing is to keep the FLEET, its long-range artillery.

        - that is why the first article in the USSR about this battle and the feat of Hilferstein, published in the journal "Foreign Military Review" (in my opinion, somewhere in 85) - was called "About one of our forgotten victory".

        - glory to selfless heroes.

    Happy Holidays!
RTV units in the form of separate radar companies serve in the most fantastic holes of our vast Motherland. In some corners, they are border guards with family members and make up the entire "local population", there is simply no other ...
The Strategic Missile Forces are also hidden, but at least they are based in divisions, and these are companies and outposts (about a company), 2-3 officers, 2-3 more warrant officers - and that's all! Children in such conditions can live with their families only until preschool age, then they have to go somewhere to school.
This is the specificity of the service, and it is very difficult for a modern person and especially his wife.
