Western analysts have announced a noticeable drop in sales of Russian arms
Last year, Russian manufacturers weapons and military equipment sold their products for 26,4 billion USD. This is 6,5% less than a year earlier, when arms were sold for 28,2 billion.
Such data were published by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).
Western analysts have noted a noticeable drop in Russian arms sales, and this has been observed for three years in a row. This year, the decline in sales volumes was one of the most rapid among other major global manufacturers. It is assumed that among the main reasons for this was the completion of the ten-year state armaments program in 2020, as well as the surge in the incidence of COVID-19, which slowed down supplies.
The SIPRI survey covers 100 of the world's largest arms companies, of which nine are located in the Russian Federation. According to SIPRI, the Almaz-Antey concern showed the largest drop among the enterprises of the Russian defense industry, the sales of which decreased by 31%. On the other hand, the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) posted 16 percent growth.
In the spring of this year, SIPRI published a report on the military spending of the countries of the world, which increased by 2,6 percent last year, reaching a total of almost two trillion dollars. According to this indicator, according to the analysts of the above-mentioned institute, the Russian Federation took the fourth place in the world after the USA, China and India.
The official Russian report on arms exports for the current year is expected in early 2022. It will be possible to compare with the indicators named by SIPRI.
